Chapter 50: 045 Temporary Farewell
Bai Zhongqi had given himself an injection of T-type nutrient, and thirty hours had passed since he discovered the true identity of the alien star fleet. This meant the Imperial Chancellor hadn't slept for over two days.
For a typical Iridium Star citizen, going two or three days without sleep wasn't a big deal, but Bai Zhongqi's body was, after all, that of an ordinary Earthling, and he could no longer handle it. He still couldn't sleep, however, because there were matters yet to be completed.
In his temporary official residence in Ruyi City, Bai Zhongqi quietly watched Han Jiaxue, who was still sleeping. He had already scanned her with a medical assistant robot, and Han Jiaxue's body had recovered. Although her injuries had not been severe, recovery under normal circumstances would have taken about half a week.
With the help of advanced Iridium Star medical technology, she had regained her health in a very short time.
Bai Zhongqi felt a deep sense of guilt toward Han Jiaxue. From the fighter wreckage falling from the San Francisco sky battle and crashing into a building, to being shamelessly captured and intensively interrogated by the CIA—none of this would have happened without Bai Zhongqi's involvement. He had often thought if he could be with the one he loved, he would definitely not let her get hurt.
However, he hadn't anticipated that it was precisely because she was with him that she suffered the greatest harm.
As he was reflecting, Han Jiaxue slowly opened her eyes. The moment she woke and saw the unfamiliar environment, she reacted violently, retreating backwards on the bed in extreme fear.
Bai Zhongqi hurried over, trying to grab Han Jiaxue's hand, "Kathy, it's okay, you're alright now, don't be scared."

When Han Jiaxue saw that it was Bai Zhongqi and recognized his hand, she still shrank back in fear.
Bai Zhongqi felt a surge of heartache and discomfort, realizing that he was no different from those CIA agents who had tortured her; he too was a person who frightened her.
Han Jiaxue seemed to notice a trace of pain and embarrassment on Bai Zhongqi's face. The Bai Zhongqi before her now felt particularly strange. He had changed to a more mature hairstyle, and his luxurious yet formal attire gave off a very different aura, making Han Jiaxue feel like she no longer knew him.
"Senior...?" Han Jiaxue couldn't be sure if this was still her senior, the man with whom she'd had a close relationship not long ago.
Bai Zhongqi nodded, sat beside the bed, and said, "Yes, it's me."
Han Jiaxue noticed that Bai Zhongqi's chair was floating mid-air without any legs, and many objects in the room were things she had never seen before.
A palm-sized robot flew over and scanned Han Jiaxue, then announced, "Vital signs scan complete, perfectly healthy."
Han Jiaxue was startled by this device, and Bai Zhongqi immediately had the medical assistant robot return to the table.
Han Jiaxue felt as though she was in a dream, looking at Bai Zhongqi with an expression of surprise and fear, and asked, "Senior, where are we?"
Bai Zhongqi replied, "We are now in Ruyi City, a space city that can float in the universe."
Han Jiaxue became even more frightened, "We are in the universe now? Where is Earth?"
Bai Zhongqi quickly waved his hand to open a device by the bed. The holographic image that popped up showed the Earth and the Iridium Star Fleet. A virtual line drawn from Ruyi City to Earth marked the distance—200,000 kilometers.
"Don't be afraid, we are not far from Earth. Ruyi City is currently orbiting Earth at a distance of 200,000 kilometers; in fact, getting to Earth from here is quicker than our trip from the apartment to the university."
Mentioning familiar terms helped calm Han Jiaxue. Indeed, she stared blankly at the holographic image and various screens showing flashing information for over a minute without speaking. Bai Zhongqi didn't dare to disturb her and just sat beside her.
Han Jiaxue looked at Bai Zhongqi, his facial expression of concern for her seemed no different from before. Han Jiaxue felt somewhat relieved and asked, "Was it you who rescued me?"
Bai Zhongqi said guiltily, "It wasn't because of me that you wouldn't have been taken away by those bastards."
Thinking about how Han Jiaxue hadn't divulged anything to those agents, Bai Zhongqi was profoundly moved. He had never imagined Han Jiaxue would keep what was essentially an unimportant secret for him, preferring to endure fear and torture. At that time when he left Han Jiaxue to join the Iridium Star Fleet, he was incredibly conflicted.
Putting herself in Han Jiaxue's shoes, the man who was just a reliable senior a moment ago suddenly turned into the head of the aliens, one can only imagine the fear in her heart. For Bai Zhongqi, he had no choice but to board the Iridium Starship and leave Han Jiaxue behind. He couldn't be sure if that trip would be dangerous or if he could successfully take over the fleet.
Solving Earth's crisis was a priority, and in such a conflicted state, he had no choice but to leave Han Jiaxue behind. Even under such circumstances, Han Jiaxue was still unwilling to betray him.
Han Jiaxue seemed to recall those events too, and fear appeared on her face once more. Bai Zhongqi moved forward and embraced her, and this time, Han Jiaxue did not pull away.
"Don't be afraid anymore, no one will harm you again!" Bai Zhongqi vowed solemnly.
Han Jiaxue felt the security of Bai Zhongqi's embrace, and was slightly reassured. She looked up at Bai Zhongqi and asked, "What did you do to those people?"
