Chapter 61: 61. Rewarding and Going
Jason had gotten his driver's license back in his second year of university, but it wasn't something he used often. In fact, he had tucked it away somewhere and almost forgotten about it. The real reason he got it was because he had this dream of buying a luxury sports car. He didn't have much money yet, but he was saving up, imagining the thrill of cruising around in a sleek, expensive car. He figured if you live in a mansion, you should have the car to match, right? That was how he once thought—simple, straightforward, and, in his own words, a bit shallow.
The problem, though, was that these high-end cars were worth millions. Jason wasn't anywhere close to that kind of money, not yet anyway. Looks like I need to find another way to make more cash, he thought, sighing.
Back at his villa, Jason decided to take a break for the afternoon. He grabbed his phone, leaned back, and opened up a streaming app to watch a movie. But there was nothing good to watch. All the movies available were filled with terrible acting and empty plots. The actors were just young faces with no substance, and the storylines were even worse—nothing but unrealistic romances and over-the-top dramas.
TV shows weren't much better. Lately, they were filled with these melodramatic, cheesy stories where the male lead treats the female lead terribly, and somehow, that's supposed to be romantic. There was one movie that had been especially popular recently—it combined magic, revenge, romance, and dramatic heartbreak. Jason couldn't help but feel puzzled by it. How do people even enjoy this stuff? It felt like filmmakers were more interested in getting views than actually producing something meaningful.
"If our movies and TV shows keep heading in this direction," Jason thought, "what hope does the future of entertainment have?"
He knew the saying: "Bad audiences lead to bad movies." But he disagreed. The truth was, bad movies created bad audiences. If all you can watch is poorly made films, how can you expect viewers to develop any real taste or appreciation for good cinema? And the more trash they produce, the more trash people are forced to watch. It becomes a vicious cycle.
Frustrated, Jason turned off the movie. He was tired of these shows that didn't offer anything new or exciting. Instead, he decided to check out a live stream from his favorite online personality, Qiqi.
As soon as he entered the stream, Qiqi appeared on screen, wearing a black maid outfit. Her angelic face was as captivating as ever. (24KSingleDog entered the live room.) Jason, who went by the username "24KSingleDog," had been following Qiqi for a while, and he had a reputation in her community for being one of her biggest tippers. She quickly recognized his name and greeted him with a warm smile.
"Welcome, Single Dog Brother!" she said sweetly. Jason smiled. He had spent thousands of dollars on gifts in her live stream before, and it seemed she hadn't forgotten.
[24KSingleDog]: Not many people watching today?
Qiqi smiled again. "Yeah, it's the afternoon. Most people are still at work. It'll get busier in the evening."
She picked up a strawberry from a nearby bowl, nibbling on it casually while continuing to chat with Jason.
[24KSingleDog]: I quit my job. I'm working for myself now.
"Wow, that's amazing!" Qiqi said, looking impressed. "You're your own boss now? That's so cool! Boss, how about sending me a red envelope to celebrate?" She pouted playfully, her voice soft and sweet.
Jason couldn't help but laugh. Even though he had always been single and considered himself a bit of an introvert, he couldn't deny that Qiqi's charm had him hooked. The comments section of the live stream lit up with praise for Qiqi's beauty and cuteness, and gifts began flooding in from her other viewers.
Feeling generous, Jason decided to recharge his account with 10,000. It only took a few seconds for the money to go through. With his balance topped up, he started buying virtual gifts—10 Ferraris, to be exact. One by one, he sent the Ferraris to Qiqi, lighting up the screen with special effects as his username flashed across the chat. Each gift raised his account level, and before long, Jason had reached level 20.
Qiqi's eyes widened in surprise. "Wow! Thank you so much, Single Dog Brother!" she exclaimed. "I love you!" She couldn't hide her excitement. "I'll send you a private message later. Let's add each other on WeChat so we can chat more!"
Jason's phone buzzed with a notification from Qiqi. It was her WeChat ID, just as she had promised. After a moment's hesitation, he added her. He knew deep down that this was probably just a professional account she used to interact with top tippers like him. When he looked through her WeChat Moments, all he saw were carefully posed selfies from her live streams. Nothing personal, nothing real.
Still, Jason didn't mind. He wasn't expecting anything more. It was just fun to support her, and he enjoyed her content for what it was—a way to pass the time and escape boredom.
Feeling generous again, Jason sent the rest of the 90,000 diamonds in his account. He bought the biggest virtual gift available on the platform, the Heart of the Galaxy, and sent it to Qiqi, along with a series of sports cars, planes, and yachts. The live stream chat went wild as special effects flooded the screen, and Jason's name dominated the chat.
Qiqi was overjoyed. "Thank you so much, Single Dog Brother! You're amazing!" she gushed, blowing kisses toward the camera.
Jason smiled to himself. He knew the whole thing was just a game, but it didn't bother him. He wasn't looking for a real connection—just something to pass the time. And Qiqi, with her bright personality and stunning looks, was more than enough to keep him entertained.
