Gardening Life With Plant Magic: Haku and the Spirits’ Botanical Garden

61: Let's Take It Easy

“Uncle Roy, why are you here?”

“I’m here to guard young master Haku.”

“But Grandpa Al and Burton are here too?”

“I’m the only guard!”

Uncle Roy laughed heartily.

Isn’t that just an excuse?

We are in the radberry cultivation area of my botanical garden. We are picking strawberries a bit earlier than the season outside, but why is Uncle Roy, who retired as a squire, always hanging around under the pretense of guarding me?

“Please put that basket in the magic bag.”

Burton handed a basket full of radberries, picked by the spirits, to Uncle Roy. This is for the homemade jam we make at home.

Burton seems to be using Uncle Roy well.

Of course, Burton is also helping with the picking.

“Got it!” Uncle Roy said as he tossed the baskets into the magic bag while snacking on radberries.

Is this really okay for the Radcliffe family?

Where is Grandpa Al? He was here just a moment ago.

“Huh? He’s gone?”

“He ran off to the herb area a while ago,” Mee-Mee told me.

“Again? Make sure to kick him out by evening. He won’t come out for days if left alone.”

Humph.

“Young master, I think we have enough radberries now.”

Burton stopped working and came over to me. He took the basket of radberries I had picked and relayed it to Uncle Roy.

“Is it almost lunchtime? Shall we head back to the spirit village for lunch?”

“The temperature is nice there, so it would be perfect for a picnic. Let’s go back, Roy.”

“Got it!”

As usual, there are a lot of old men around me!

I wish for a pretty lady!

Then Yue poked me with her staff from behind.

“I sensed some impure thoughts! Take that, take that!”

The percentage of people with ESP is high too.

Hmm.

In the spirit village, rice paddies spread out.

We spread a sheet under the shade of trees along the tranquil farm road and opened the basket we brought, which was filled with delicious-looking sandwiches.

Burton poured tea from a thermos into cups and handed them to everyone.

“Today, we have a tea called Oolong tea. It’s hot, so please be careful.”

“Okay!”

The spirits sat wherever they liked, receiving tea and sandwiches from Burton. Uncle Roy was rummaging through the basket as he pleased.

I ate a ham sandwich.

Since Mee-Mee taught Jeff how to make bread, we now have fluffy bread on our table.

Jeff had a special bread pan ordered from a metal craftsman.

Of course, it was paid for as a business expense.

Recently, he has been engrossed in growing natural apple yeast in the separate kitchen.

We still eat rye bread as usual.

It’s the staple food of the village.

“What shall we do this afternoon?”

After finishing our meal, Burton asked.

We picked radberries in the morning, and we could just go back home, but…

“Let’s visit the rose garden.”

“Understood.”

So, let’s go.

When I told Mee-Mee our destination, lo and behold.

She connected a gate to the desired area.

It’s super convenient, like a magical door!

So with just a short walk, we could reach the rose garden.

In the rose garden within the botanical garden, you can always enjoy blooming flowers.

I could live here forever.

Various flowers are growing, making the view colorful and uplifting.

Plants are so soothing.

Wow.

“What a splendid sight.”

Even Uncle Roy, who is usually so stoic, can appreciate this beauty?

“Indeed. May I take a few?”

Burton got permission from Mee-Mee and collected some roses and other flowers.

We spent a leisurely afternoon like that before returning to the annex.

Outside, in the real world, it’s still mid-May.

I’ve planted perennials in the bee’s flower garden, and now I just go to see the blue nemophila, pink lotus, white clover, and red crimson clover.

It sounds a bit chaotic in writing, doesn’t it?

Even with complementary colors, vivid colors, or pastel colors, they harmonize mysteriously in nature.

Oh, if we had yellow, it would be perfect with five colors.

I wonder if any dandelions will grow?

Now, the dedicated farmworkers manage the fields outside, and Billy takes care of the fields within the mansion.

The spirit distribution center is also taken care of by the spirits, which is a great help.

When I think about it, my workload has decreased.

After all, this season, after planting, isn’t very busy.

Now, I enjoy the new green leaves.

I would study, but Grandpa Al is hiding in the botanical garden, so it’s a pity, but I can’t.

Ha ha ha.

So, today, since the weather is nice, I’m relaxing in the garden with the spirits.

Martha made me wear sunscreen and a hat.

She even prepared cute straw hats for the spirits.

Everyone was delighted and hugged Martha.

Guri wore a green ribbon with a pink marguerite motif.

Poko had a light brown ribbon with a green four-leaf clover motif.

Kuu had a light blue ribbon with a dark blue cornflower motif.

Picca had an orange ribbon with a sunflower motif.

Fuu had a light green ribbon with a dandelion motif.

Yue had a white ribbon with a pale pink cosmos motif.

Mee-Mee had a black ribbon with a white lily motif.

Huh? A funeral?

The moment that crossed my mind.

Mee-Mee gave me a face full of black fluff attack!

“Ugh!”

I sank into the lawn.

I was wrong, and I will reflect on my actions.

I’m sorry.

Words bring disaster.

Rather, even thoughts bring disaster!

Additionally, a straw hat just the right size for Tak, who shouldn’t be visible to adults, was prepared!

One day, it was hung on the screen in Tak’s closet room.

Apparently, Tak was secretly delighted (according to Yue).

Since then, Tak wears the straw hat everywhere, even while cleaning.

Jeff testified that he was surprised to see a small straw hat floating in the kitchen at night.

Since his name is Tak, it’s hard to call him Tak, so he remains Tak.

Martha seems to have asked Yue, who can communicate with Tak, for his size.

Household fairies in this world don’t run away even if you give them gifts.

Instead, they are happy and clean diligently.

Tak is a good boy!

Please continue cleaning my room!
