Chapter 15
Zhou Yuan’s funeral arrangements were handled by Zhang Yaoyao. As their friends, Liu Jin’an and the others accompanied her to see Zhou Yuan off on his last journey.
“Sorry for delaying your purchase of supplies,” Zhang Yaoyao’s eyes were swollen like walnuts, and she held the urn tightly in her arms.
Liu Jin’an shook his head. “It doesn’t matter. The orders have been placed. With Uncle Hu and Aunt Zhang here, and those gangsters working as coolies, filling the warehouse won’t be a problem.”
Yes, Wang Mazi came to them early the next morning with a group of younger brothers.
Originally, Liu Jin’an had not intended to accept these people. No matter in terms of character or ability, they didn’t meet his requirements.
However, considering that the materials were being delivered to the hotel one after another, a lot of manpower were needed to sort the materials and transport them to the warehouse.
He held his nose and left them.
The advantage of having more people was obvious.
Within two days, thousands of tons of supplies filled the warehouse.
The materials he selected had long shelf lives and balanced nutrition, and the cost was lower than usual. Only one-tenth of the 100 million yuan remained.
The remaining 10 million was for strengthening the warehouse to prevent others from stealing the materials he had worked so hard to collect.
Zhang Yaoyao rubbed her brows tiredly. She had been keeping vigil for Zhou Yuan for the past two days and was busy arranging the funeral. She hadn’t had a good night’s sleep.
It all depended on willpower.
Now that the dust had settled, the accumulated difficulties and fatigue were sweeping over her. She just wanted to go back to the hotel and have a good sleep.
Hu Jianye whispered in a low voice, “An’an, what do you think people are chasing in this life? No matter how ups and downs and vigorous the process is, in the end, it just ends up in a small box.”
Liu Jin’an joked, “You still think about life?”
“This is not the first time I’ve experienced the death of someone I know!” Hu Jianye sighed. “Who would have thought that a few days ago, he was so full of life, and now, in the blink of an eye, there’s only an urn left.”
Liu Jin’an pursed his lips, and a thoughtful expression flashed in his eyes.
Had he ever experienced separation or death?
The Book of Superpowers recorded the deaths of many people.
But a novel was a novel after all, and things that had never happened felt too far away for him.
Liu Jin’an gently patted Hu Jianye’s shoulder. “People cannot be resurrected after death, and those who are alive must live well. If one day, unfortunately, I die too, I hope you can be strong.”
“Bah, bah, bah!” Hu Jianye glared at him. “What are you talking about? Come on, bah, bah, bah, bah, to drive away the bad luck.”
Unable to defeat Hu Jianye, Liu Jin’an had no choice but to follow suit and say, “Bah, bah, bah.”
Returning to the hotel from the crematorium, Liu Jin’an noticed someone guarding the door from a distance. He immediately became vigilant. “Uncle Hu, Aunt Zhang, be careful. The person coming here is too weird.”
It wasn’t that he was suspicious, but the clothes of these two people were too suspicious. Both had wrapped themselves tightly, exposing only the two eyes. Who were they trying to deal with?
Zhang Yaoyao thought it was another poacher and anger rose in her eyes. “They came just in time; I was just about to settle the score with them!”
“Sister Zhang, calm down. They have weapons and it’s not suitable for head-on confrontation,” Liu Jin’an quickly reassured her.
He did have two guns in his backpack, but he hadn’t taken them out.
In order to avoid unnecessary casualties, he chose to call the police.
The police arrived very quickly and surrounded the suspicious people, putting them into police cars.
The whole process went extremely smoothly.
It went so well that Liu Jin’an had doubts. Did these two people don’t intend to resist at all? Or had they not expected to be caught by the police?
His doubts were quickly answered.
Half an hour later, he was at the police station, as requested by the police.
The moment he stepped into the door, a stern voice rang out: “Liu Jin’an, are you crazy? Why did you call the police to arrest me?”
Liu Jin’an looked around and recognized the two weird people guarding at the hotel, next to the police officers.
After taking off the thick black coat and mask, the man no longer looked like a bad guy. However, Liu Jin’an couldn’t place who they were after searching his memory.
The second man was calmer. “Let me introduce myself. My name is Yang Shu, and he is Xu Zhaoxin. We were sent by Duan Haiping to protect you.”
“It turns out to be you.”
Liu Jin’an recognized the two figures from the novel.
Yang Shu was a cold and taciturn man, a veteran with excellent skills and strong execution ability.
Xu Zhaoxin, on the other hand, was well-rounded, versatile, and sociable, filling in Duan Haiping’s character flaws perfectly.
These two were Duan Haiping’s right-hand men.
So why were they here at the same time? He had clearly asked Duan Haiping to hoard supplies. Hadn’t Duan Haiping done as he was instructed?
Liu Jin’an took a deep breath to suppress his anger and then said apologetically to the police: “Uncle officer, this is a misunderstanding. They are my friends. They probably came to me in disguise because they heard people were killed here.”
The police officer, who was aware of what had happened at the hotel recently, nodded upon hearing this: “In that case, you can go. But don’t travel too far. If you have any problems, call us anytime.”
After leaving the police station, Liu Jin’an turned to the two men. “Tell me, has Duan Haiping stocked up on supplies? Why did he send you here?”
Xu Zhaoxin glanced at him. “Mr. Duan has his reasons for doing this. What you need to do is not speculate on his thoughts but come with us to Beijing.”
“Oh?” Liu Jin’an caught on to the key point. “He asked you to take me to see him?”
With Duan Haiping’s character, if he didn’t trust someone, he wouldn’t waste time meeting. It seemed Duan Haiping had accumulated enough supplies.
Xu Zhaoxin was stunned, surprised. How did Liu Jin’an know that he and Yang Shu were the one buying the supplies secretly?
How did Liu Jin’an, who was far away in Yuncheng, find out? Did Duan Haiping tell him?
Xu Zhaoxin’s thoughts raced, but his face remained calm. “This is group’s secrets, no comment.”
That was all.
After Liu Jin’an got the answer he wanted, he decided to ignore the two of them and head back to the hotel.
However, upon receiving the order, Xu Zhaoxin and Yang Shu couldn’t let him go so easily.
“It’s still in front of the police station,” Liu Jin’an said, crossing his arms and frowning at the two men blocking his path. “Do you two want to be detained again?”
Yang Shu said in a deep voice, “Mr. Duan invites you.”
“Tell him that I still have things to do in Yuncheng and can’t go to Beijing with you.” Liu Jin’an turned to leave after speaking.
Xu Zhaoxin winked at Yang Shu.
Yang Shu understood and struck Liu Jin’an on the back of the neck with his palm.
Pain surged through Liu Jin’an, and he turned around with a dark face, rubbing his aching neck.
“I hate it when people hit me on the neck!” he gritted his teeth.
Why did everyone like sneak attacks him so much?
