Global Awakening: Apocalypse Ender's Chronicle

Chapter 379: Fools

The group continued on their journey and encountered a few more groups of Zombies but they didn't experience any threat at all. Everything was under control.

As night fell, the group found a suitable clearing to set up camp.

Liang deployed the portable barrier generators, creating a protective field around their perimeter. The soft hum of the barriers provided a sense of security, and the team began setting up their tents.

Lysandra then inspected these barriers for a bit as she felt quite impressed by the small objects that Liang had placed on the ground. These things weren't being sold in the Ivory Gear Shelter at all.

"These barriers should keep us safe from any wandering Zombies," Liang explained while adjusting the settings on the generators.

"But just in case, I've also set up some wire traps around the perimeter." He added.

Mei, the medic, tended to any minor injuries the group had sustained during the day. It was small bruises and wasn't really a big deal…

"Everyone, make sure to get some rest. We have a long journey ahead…" Mei advised. Her tone was gentle but firm.

At this time, Shane and Lysandra sat by the fire… Well, Shane was actually showing the Wolf Pelt Cloak, just in case she fancied it.

"It's a bit too thick… I might consider this during the winter." Lysandra commented as she touched the Cloak…

Shane nodded… "You can have one… I still have some extra. It has a decent effect, and the effect stacks with your vest."

"Is that so?"

Lysandra then thanked Shane for this as she was indeed wearing the SWAT Uniform's Vest. Having the additional defense of the Cloak would probably save her from the Acid Spit that they would be dealing with tomorrow.

Indeed, they would have to pass through an area where numerous Spitter Zombie lurks. Having the Cloak might save her life.

At this time, Captain Wei joined them as they finished their dinner.

"You both did great out there… Tomorrow, we will be passing through a kilometer-wide Spitter Zombie-infested area. It's the quickest path, and it is a mid-level danger if I can rate it. In any case, we have Liang's barrier to protect us from the Acid Spit, so we just need to be quick on this.

You probably know this already, but those Zombies explode once they get killed, so we can't kill them…" Captain Wei explained.

"We will follow your directions, Captain Wei." Vale replied with a nod. He felt that Captain Wei was a good leader after all.

They then chatted for some time before everyone fell asleep… In any case, once a zombie gets near, their traps are triggered, and the barrier can also buy them some time to prepare.

As dawn broke, they confirmed that there weren't any Zombies lurking around their camp, and the group swiftly moved from their tents.

Mei, the medic who loved to take care of other people, had also prepared a simple yet satisfying breakfast of bread and butter. She even brewed some hot tea, the comforting aroma wafted through the camp.

Of course, this scent was blocked by the barrier as well to ensure that it would not attract any other Zombie.

"Eat up, everyone," Mei said, handing out cups of tea. "We have a long day ahead."

Shane and Lysandra gratefully accepted their portions, savoring the warmth of the tea. Though the two of them had better food in their inventory, including the ones they had just bought in their Survivor Store, they decided to accept the good intentions of the medic.

The rest of the team quickly finished their meal, knowing they needed their strength for the journey.

After packing up their camp, Captain Wei gathered the group. "Once again, our next route takes us through an area infested with Spitter Zombies. We'll use Liang's barriers to block their acid spit and rush through the area. Stay close and follow my lead."

The team nodded in agreement, their expressions serious.

They then set off, moving swiftly through the forest.

"We're close…" Captain Wei muttered.

As they approached the designated area, the air around them suddenly grew thick with the acrid smell of decay.

Seeing Lysandra's reaction, Shane swiftly took out a couple of gas masks. It was something he bought in the store for 40 Zombie Cores each.

"Thank you…" Lysandra muttered as she wore the mask. Thankfully, it was quite effective. As for the others, they seemed to have a high level of resistance, so they didn't mind it.

Captain Wei also noticed Shane's action, and he just realized that the two hadn't actually received the Ivory Gear Shelter's modification. It was a miss on his part, and he could only apologize to Shane for failing to consider this matter.

Soon, their scout signaled for the group to halt.

"We've got company," he whispered. "A group of Survivors were ahead, and they're hunting the Spitter Zombies recklessly. Tsk…"

The team crept forward, peering through the underbrush.

Then, they saw eight individuals, all wearing SWAT uniforms and wielding strange crossbows. The Survivors were systematically eliminating the Spitter Zombies as their bolts pierced the creatures with deadly accuracy. As for the explosions that followed, they would actually throw some sort of web on these Spitter Zombies to contain the explosion!

As they all started appreciating their combat style, one of the Survivors noticed Shane's group and shouted, "This is now our Clan's hunting ground! We are from the Mystic Mirage!" The man puffed out his chest, giving a threatening look at Captain Wei, who seemed to be the strongest in their group.

"Fools…" Captain Wei muttered under his breath. He knew the danger of this place all too well. Although the Mystic Mirage Clan members looked strong and capable with their technique, their reckless approach was bound to attract unwanted attention.

As if on cue, a deep growl echoed through the area.

The Mystic Mirage members froze and their eyes widened in fear.

Soon, three Monster Spitter Zombies emerged, they were larger than the regular Spitters and Shane knew about these Zombies! He had encountered them in the previous Zombie Wave after all!
