Chapter 3: Labrinth
Hikari, Alina, and Katherine found themselves transported into the labyrinth. It sprawled before them like a living entity, a vast and intricate maze woven from ancient stone and twisted roots. Towering walls of weathered rock loomed overhead, their surfaces adorned with moss and lichen, creating the impression that the very earth had come alive. The air was thick with an earthy scent, mingling with the faint aroma of dampness and decay.
"Where's Banri?" Hikari asked, scanning their surroundings.
"He must have left on his own! We need to focus on ourselves," Alina replied, irritation creeping into her voice. "We have to work together to get through this labyrinth and defeat the Chimera. Let's start by sharing our mutant abilities."
"You're right. We can catch up with Banri later," Hikari agreed. "I'll go first. My powers let me create green flames. I can control their temperature, making them as hot as magma or as cold as ice. I can also use the flames to restore someone's stamina, and if I concentrate hard enough, I can create a powerful explosions."
"Okay, my power is transmutation," Alina chimed in. "I can change the characteristics of an elements, like its toughness or temperature, and sometimes even its quantity. But I have to touch them to do it."
Katherine nodded. "My ability allows me to release a wave that controls the speed of an object or person."
"Great! If we work as a team, we can take down the Chimera and get out of here safely. I'll do everything I can to protect you both," Hikari assured them, sensing their unease.
"I know you will, Hikari, but it would be nice to have more help, especially since Banri decided to run off on his own," Alina said, her concern evident.
The group began to make their way through the labyrinth, which was shrouded in darkness. Hikari used his flames to light the path ahead. After about fifteen minutes of walking without encountering any threats, they suddenly found themselves face to face with a pack of rodent-like beasts. These monsters stood about four feet tall, were incredibly agile, and possessed sharp claws that glinted menacingly. They emitted loud, piercing squeals as they launched an ambush.
Katherine quickly activated her ability, slowing down the monsters, while Hikari unleashed his flames to incinerate them. Alina transformed the ground beneath the beasts into quicksand, trapping them in place. Hikari made short work of the creatures, dispatching them with ease.
With Hikari leading the charge, they swiftly navigated through the labyrinth, overcoming various beasts one by one. Both Katherine and Alina felt a sense of safety as long as Hikari was by their side.
As Hikari, Alina, and Katherine cautiously made their way deeper into the labyrinth, the air grew heavier, thick with an oppressive energy that sent a chill down their spines. The flickering light from Hikari's flames cast eerie shadows on the damp stone walls, and the distant echoes of their footsteps seemed to fade into an unsettling silence. They exchanged nervous glances, each feeling the weight of anticipation as they approached the heart of the beast's domain.
They entered a vast cavern, the lair of the Chimera. The sight before them was both awe-inspiring and terrifying. The chamber was illuminated by the faint glow of bioluminescent fungi, revealing the grotesque beauty of the creature that lay within. The walls of the chamber were adorned with claw marks and scorch marks, evidence of the creature's ferocity and the many battles fought within its territory. The Chimera lounged atop its rocky throne, its three heads surveying the intruders with a mix of curiosity and hunger. The lion's head let out a low growl, the goat's head bleated defiantly, and the serpent hissed, flicking its tongue as if tasting the air for their scent.
"Seems we've got dinner," the lion head said, its gaze fixed on the trio.
"Two of them are girls. It's been a while since I had a girl," replied the snake head, a sinister glint in its eyes.
"Looks like a bunch of flesh to me," the goat head chimed in, sounding disinterested. "Though I wouldn't mind checking their stomachs to see if they've eaten any plants lately."
"I don't suppose I can ask you to hand over your hearts?" Hikari asked, a confident smile on his face.
The goat head bleated, sounding almost like a laugh. "You'll have to come and get it," the snake head replied, a nasty grin spreading across its face.
With a roar that shook the very foundations of the lair, the Chimera lunged forward, its powerful body moving with surprising speed. "Stay behind and cover me!" Hikari shouted as he heroically charged at the beast.
Katherine used her powers to increase Hikari's speed while Alina trapped the creature in place. Hikari unleashed a torrent of green flames, aiming for the lion's head. The heat from his flames melted the ground beneath him as he unleashed his power. The cavern filled with the sounds of roars, bleats, and hisses, mingling with the crackle of flames and the thud of heavy claws against stone.
Using the flames at his feet to enhance his speed and maneuverability, Hikari danced around the creature. The Chimera lashed out, but Hikari was too quick, using precision to burn away at the monster's weak points.
Frustrated, the Chimera turned its gaze to Alina and Katherine, charging at them with full force. But like a knight in shining armor, Hikari released an explosion that sent the beast crashing into the wall. The creature glared at Hikari with pure hatred.
The lion head let out a deafening roar causing its bloodlust filled the air, this would send any sensible person running. The beast charged again, but it stopped in its tracks as a massive wave of electricity surged from the ground.
This was the work of Alina's powers. She had electrified the surface with her transmutation ability. Seizing the opportunity, Hikari created a blast at his feet that propelled him into the air. He concentrated his light and heat to form a laser that pierced through the Chimera's back, causing it to collapse. Each head let out a final cry as they fell silent.
After confirming the beast's death, the trio celebrated their hard-fought victory over the Chimera. They quickly dismantled the creature and extracted its heart. Hikari devoured the lion's heart, Alina consumed the snake's heart, and Katherine feasted on the goat's heart.
Once they finished eating, a voice echoed in their minds.
