Chapter 2: The First Battle
The Universal Room is still. A quiet, almost oppressive calm lingers in the air, as though time itself is held at bay. I can barely process the enormity of where I am—this place is not of Earth, not of any world I've known. The walls shift with a soft glow, stars flickering beyond the glass-like structure. It's a room of vast space, stretching infinitely, as though it were designed to be a bridge between worlds.
The goddess, Astoria, stands before me, her golden hair shimmering like liquid sunlight, her body fragile, almost ethereal. She is powerful—yet weak. The last remnant of the gods who once ruled EDEN, but now a mere shadow of what she once was.
Her eyes lock onto mine, filled with sorrow and something more—a deep, unyielding hope. The weight of that hope bears down on me like a mountain.
"You must be ready," Astoria says softly, her voice trembling. "I cannot fight. I was spared only by my father's sacrifice. But you, Hero… You are the last hope of EDEN. The Dragon God has chosen you, and you must now wield his power."
My hands shake as I hold the GOD sword. I still don't understand it, don't understand how any of this works. I'm just… me. A human with no special power, no divine right to wield a weapon of this magnitude.
"I don't know how to fight," I mutter, glancing down at the sword in my hands. "I can't do this."
Astoria's gaze softens, and she steps forward, placing a delicate hand on my arm. "The sword will guide you. Trust it, and trust in the Dragon God."
I swallow hard, the weight of her words sinking in. She's right. I can't back down. If I don't do this—if I fail—EDEN falls.
The silence in the room deepens, and then, like a crack in the calm, a soft pulse vibrates through the air. The ground beneath my feet shifts, and the stars outside flicker violently. Astoria's eyes widen in alarm.
"It's begun…" she whispers.
Before I can respond, the very fabric of the Universal Room seems to tear apart. A brilliant light explodes in front of me, and the next thing I know, I'm falling through a portal.
The air changes immediately. It's hot, heavy with the scent of burning earth, and the ground shakes beneath me as I stumble onto a barren, cracked landscape. EDEN.
I can barely take in my surroundings before the sound of movement reaches my ears. From the shadows, figures emerge—demonic creatures, goblins with twisted forms, their eyes glowing red with hunger. They snarl as they close in on me.
I freeze. My breath catches in my throat.
"Why here? Why now?" My mind races with panic. "I… I'm not ready for this!"
Astoria's voice echoes in my mind, soft yet urgent. "Raise the sword, Hero. Let the Dragon God guide you."
I don't know what to do, but something stirs within me. A force. A presence. A power I never knew existed, growing stronger within my chest. The sword pulses in my hand, its blade glowing brighter.
"Focus." The Dragon God's voice fills my thoughts, deep and commanding. "Your power is within you. Use it."
With trembling hands, I lift the sword.
And then, the first goblin charges. Without thinking, I swing the sword, a wide arc that sends a shockwave of energy through the air. The goblin is torn apart in an instant, its body crumbling to dust before it even hits the ground.
I can't believe it. The sword—it's alive. It feels like an extension of myself, a part of me, a weapon forged from the very power of the gods.
More goblins swarm toward me, but this time, I don't hesitate. The sword moves through the air with a will of its own, and I follow its lead, cutting down goblins one by one. Each strike is smoother, more fluid, and with every swing, I feel stronger.
The battlefield grows silent as the last of the goblins falls. The air is thick with the smell of burnt flesh, and my heart pounds in my chest. I stand there, panting, covered in the blood of the creatures I've slain.
"Is it over?" I ask breathlessly, scanning the area.
But the silence is interrupted by a distant rumble. The ground shakes again, more violently this time. And then I hear it—the sound of more creatures, larger, more powerful, approaching. The fight isn't over. It's only just begun.
Astoria's voice fills my mind again, soft but filled with urgency. "You've done well, but you must continue. There are more dangers ahead. Only by reclaiming the lands and gathering worshippers can I regain enough strength to assist you."
I glance at her—her form flickering, barely holding together. "How long do I have?"
She doesn't answer, but the answer is clear in her eyes. She's giving me everything she has, and I'm all she has left.
I take a deep breath, steadying myself. The world around me is vast and uncertain, but I can't afford to falter. Not now.
I raise the sword once more, feeling its power surge through me. EDEN needs me. The gods need me.
And I won't let them down.
