Chapter 10: Chapter 9: "A Call from Subaru Mitejima"
"So, what exactly do you mean by this?"
Hiratsuka Shizuka's expression was conflicted as she questioned Gojo Satoru.
He had stolen her first kiss without even confessing.
She thought she might feel upset or resistant, but surprisingly, those feelings didn't arise.
Instead, there was a faint trace of joy.
Looks like I've still got a bit of charm to make this guy take the initiative.
"Shizuka, what I mean—you just experienced it firsthand, didn't you?"
Gojo turned the question back on her.
Experienced it firsthand…
Subconsciously, Shizuka touched her lips, still tingling from the kiss.
Although a flash of shyness crossed her face, she quickly composed herself. After all, she was an adult.
"Honestly, you're impossible."
Her tone carried exasperation, but her heart had already softened.
Looks like I'll have to stick with this idiot in the days ahead.
She wasn't opposed to the idea.
Given Gojo's personality, appearance, and identity as an Onmyoji, she knew there would be no shortage of women trying to get close to him.
But Shizuka decided to stop worrying about such things.
As long as she had a place in his heart, that would be enough.
Besides, she thought, in this world's legal system, capable men are allowed to take multiple wives if all parties consent.
That made it easier for her to accept her feelings.
"Lunch break is almost over. I'm heading back to my class."
With that, Shizuka grabbed the white coat hanging on her chair and hurried out of the office.
Her departure seemed less like heading to class and more like… running away from Gojo?
"Eh, Shizuka-chan really is adorable," Gojo mused, resting his chin on his hand with a grin.
After tidying up his desk, he got ready to leave as well.
Worth noting: Sobu High's teachers' office was shared by four teachers. Besides Gojo and Hiratsuka, the other two were Natsumi Bekki and Sengoku Chihiro.
The end of the school day.
At 3:00 PM, classes were dismissed, and students poured out of Sobu High.
"Yamaguchi, let's go to Akihabara! I heard Magical Girl Merry is launching a new game today!"
"What? A game launch? Why didn't I hear about this? That's huge news!"
"I told you—it's insider info! Probably just a test version release, so we need to check it out."
"Right! Let's go!"
"..."
"Rika-chan, let's go sing karaoke! It's been forever since we went!"
"Well, I have to… ah, forget it. Let's go."
"..."
Some students stayed behind for club activities, but many headed home in groups or pairs.
On the rooftop.
Gojo Satoru prepared to use his Limitless Technique for instant teleportation to Shibuya.
There was a dessert shop there, run by an elderly woman, that sold a particular favorite of his—Kikufu.
Just thinking about the soft and sweet mochi made Gojo grin like a fool.
As for Umaru, she had told him she was going out shopping with a friend and that he should go ahead without her.
"Alright, coordinates locked in."
Gojo focused on the location he had marked in Shibuya—a secluded spot he had prepared in advance for easy teleportation.
The area was discreet and rarely visited, ensuring no obstacles.
But just as Gojo was about to teleport…
"I can't live without you~ You're like water to this fish that's dying of thirst~"
His phone ringtone blared.
Gojo froze, then pulled out his phone. Without checking the caller ID, he answered casually.
"Moshi moshi! This is Gojo-san. If it's urgent, speak quickly; otherwise, Gojo-san has important dessert-related business to attend to!"
There was a pause on the other end before a familiar voice spoke.
"Satoru-kun, you seem to be enjoying yourself—running off to Tokyo to become a teacher."
"???"
Gojo looked at the screen, which displayed the caller ID: Squinty Eyed Subaru.
He froze.
Damn it. I told Arima but forgot to tell Subaru.
Still, Gojo wasn't one to panic. He smirked and quickly crafted an excuse.
Cough cough.
He coughed dramatically, lowering his voice to sound weak.
"Sorry, Subaru. I sustained serious injuries and didn't want you to worry, so I didn't mention going to Tokyo."
"Oh, serious injuries? From not eating dessert, perhaps?"
"Pfft—hey! How did you know? I mean, no, that's not it! I… I…"
Gojo's brain scrambled for an excuse.
"…was gravely wounded from not eating Shibuya's Kikufu!"
His tone shifted to righteous indignation, as though his excuse was perfectly valid.
"...I can't with you," Subaru sighed. "Just let me know next time, okay? You've been gone for half a month. If I hadn't asked Arima-sama, I'd still think you were stuck in Magano."
Her voice carried a note of hurt.
Hearing her tone, Gojo stopped joking and rubbed his temples in mild frustration.
"Alright, Subaru-chan. I get it. I wasn't trying to hide it on purpose. I've just been busy these past two weeks—mostly spending time with my sister. And today was the first day of school, so it slipped my mind. I'm sorry, okay?"
His apology wasn't entirely a lie; he had been busy playing games with Umaru over the past two weeks.
"…Fine. Once I'm done with business in Kyoto, I'll come find you. Don't try to stop me. See you then."
Without giving Gojo a chance to respond, Subaru hung up the call.
