Chapter 21: Chapter 20: Apologies for Not Recognizing My Waifu, Nino
At the Nakano Household.
The four Nakano sisters sat on the living room sofa, the television on but entirely ignored. Their expressions were unusually serious as they all focused their attention on Nino, who was at the kitchen counter washing dishes.
Nino seemed absentminded, her actions mechanical, as if deep in thought, entirely unaware of the sisters' watchful gazes.
"What do you think is going on with Nino? Ever since she came back last night, she's been acting like something's weighing on her," Ichika whispered, her voice tinged with concern.
"I don't know, but there's no way I believe that nonsense about falling into a ditch last night," Miku said softly, her own worry evident in her eyes.
She clearly remembered the moment Nino returned home, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. Her clothes were covered in black and gray grime, and there were small abrasions on her arms and legs—injuries that couldn't possibly come from simply falling into a ditch.
To make things even stranger, Nino had asked to borrow a phone, saying she needed to replace hers because it was too slow.
"Too slow?" Miku mused. "Didn't she just get that phone last month?"
"Actually, I need to say something," Yotsuba piped up suddenly from her corner of the sofa.
"Last night, when I got up to use the bathroom, I heard Nino crying. It was quiet, but she was definitely crying. She even said something like, 'I'm so glad I made it back to see you all.'"
The room fell silent.
"Crying," "I'm glad I made it back," "Covered in grime," "Injured."
No matter how they pieced it together, it sounded like she'd escaped from some sort of life-or-death situation.
"Should we just ask her directly?" Itsuki suggested, frowning.
"No," Ichika said firmly, shaking her head. "If Nino doesn't want to talk about it, we shouldn't press her. Let her keep it to herself and try to forget whatever happened."
As the eldest sister, Ichika's words carried weight. The other three nodded in reluctant agreement.
Ding-dong!
The sound of the doorbell broke the tense atmosphere.
"Hello, your package has arrived," the delivery person announced.
"Package!"
At the sound of this, Nino's face lit up. Drying her hands quickly, she dashed to the door to retrieve the delivery.
The other sisters exchanged knowing looks. They had a good idea of what it was.
It was the new phone she had ordered online last night.
At the Gojo Household.
Gojo Satoru was sitting cross-legged on his bed, a laptop balanced on his knees.
He was scrolling through reviews of popular cafés and dessert shops in Chiba, meticulously planning his next outing.
Buzz—
His phone vibrated. Picking it up, he saw a notification from Line.
It was a message from the girl he'd saved last night.
Curious, he opened it.
"Sorry for the late introduction, but you disappeared so quickly last night that I didn't get a chance to thank you properly or introduce myself. My name is Nakano Nino. Thank you for saving me!"
Nakano Nino?
Gojo froze for a moment.
Wait, the girl covered in grime last night… was Nakano Nino? My waifu?
As a self-proclaimed Nino fan, not recognizing her was a failure worthy of deep shame.
Still, Gojo wasn't particularly emotional about it. It was more amusing than anything.
"No problem! Let me introduce myself: I'm Gojo Satoru, an innocent and handsome guy~"
He hit send.
Gojo Satoru. Handsome? Absolutely true. Innocent? Tch.
At the Nakano Household.
Lying on her bed, Nino read Gojo's reply and burst out laughing.
Who introduces themselves as a handsome guy?
Of course, if it were anyone else, she would have rolled her eyes and mocked them. But with Gojo, it just felt… endearing.
Yes, she was absolutely a double-standard queen.
"Hmm—"
After some thought, Nino typed out another message.
"Would you let me treat you to dinner on Saturday or Sunday? Just to thank you for what you did, nothing else."
She frowned, rereading her message. That last line sounded way too tsundere. After a moment's hesitation, she deleted it.
Instead, she rewrote it:
"Would you let me treat you to dinner on Saturday or Sunday as a token of my gratitude for saving me?"
Satisfied, she hit send.
Her heart pounded as she set her phone down. This was the first time she'd ever invited a guy to dinner, and the thought made her cheeks flush.
Truthfully, she did feel a sense of affection toward Gojo Satoru—perhaps even the beginnings of something more.
However, she wasn't fully in love just yet. Her pride and tsundere nature wouldn't allow it. Still, she wasn't one to shy away from acknowledging her feelings.
Moments later, his reply came.
"Of course~ Gojo-sama graciously accepts your invitation."
Nino's lips curled into a grin as she typed back, "Alright, Gojo-sama, see you then!"
This feeling… not bad at all.
