Chapter 69: Chapter 69 Return Journey x Heavy Rain x Assassins

Three days passed in the blink of an eye. During this period, no ignorant troublemakers dared to cause any disturbance, allowing the Yorknew Auction to proceed in a seemingly calm situation.

From September 1st to September 10th, there will be ten auctions in total over ten days, all held in the evening.

That night, Barney took Martin and several bodyguards to the Cemetery Building, which was one of the auction venues responsible for hosting the first five auctions.

Law, Kenda and six bodyguards stayed on the top floor of the hotel with the mission of protecting Ellie's safety.

The three days of calm concealed an undercurrent of turmoil.

The environment, positions, and plans...

Three days were more than enough time for competent assassins to prepare.

"The enemy may stop at nothing to attack Young Lady, or they may want to capture her alive to threaten Master. No matter what their intentions are, we cannot allow Young Lady to fall into danger."

"Anyone who may threaten Young Lady's safety will be killed on the spot."

Inside the room, Law leaned against a corner wall, recalling Kenda's stern instructions.

From where he stood, he could oversee the entire room. Meanwhile, Kenda was guarding outside the door.

Originally, Law should have been guarding this position, but Kenda couldn't win against Ellie's insistence, so he had no choice but to guard the door instead.

The remaining six bodyguards were positioned along the key entry points of the top floor, ensuring no one would be allowed to enter until the auction concluded.

"This is so boring."

Ellie sat on the bed, supporting her cheeks with her hands, looking visibly restless.

The bed had been moved to a position where it could not be seen by the window, and Law stood not far from the bed.

"Law, let's play a game." Ellie looked at Law with anticipation.

"No." Law refused flatly.

Ellie immediately pouted, slapped the bed sheet, and sulked.

After a while, Ellie said again: "Law, how about we sneak out and have some fun?"

Law shook his head and rejected her once more.

After some time, Ellie grabbed a pillow and hurled it at Law, who caught it easily.

"Hmph."

Ellie snorted loudly and threw the blanket over her head.

Just as Law thought she'd finally settled down, Ellie suddenly whipped the blanket off and flung another pillow at him, which was then caught just as easily.

Seeing her 'sneak attack' failed, Ellie's eyes widened, looking very unconvinced.

"Can you behave for a moment?" Law said helplessly. Holding a pillow in each hand, he walked to the bed to put the pillows back in place.

At this moment, Ellie suddenly jumped off the bed and pounced on Law.

Law reacted instantly, and immediately stretched out his arms to catch Ellie. With a quick turn to dissipate the force of her jump, he smoothly placed Ellie back onto the bed and pulled the blanket over her before she could react.

By the time Ellie realized what had happened, she was already lying neatly under the covers.

"If you don't behave for these ten days, don't expect me to pay you any attention." Law threw down a threat and turned back to his position in the corner.

"Heh heh, you fell for it!"

However, Ellie laughed triumphantly. She threw back the quilt and jumped up, placed one hand on her waist and pointed smugly at Law with the other, her face brimming with victory.

Law turned his head to look at the smug Ellie, and quickly noticed a pink sticky note was stuck behind his right shoulder. Realizing what had happened, he rolled his eyes.

"Law, I command you to play a game with me right now!" Ellie raised her head and issued her 'order'.

Law was too lazy to pay attention to her and reached out to peel off the sticky note. However, when he applied a little force, he found that the note was firmly stuck.

Ellie looked at this scene and smiled triumphantly, but the next second, her smile froze as she saw Law peel off the note easily.

"That is the strongest glue!" Ellie gaped in disbelief.

"Enough is enough. Don't joke with your own safety."

Law used God Hand to tear off the note, crumpled it into a ball, and tossed it into the trash bin in the distance.

Ellie hid in the bed sullenly and finally calmed down.

Seeing her settle down, Law let out a breath of relief. Even though Kenda and other bodyguards were guarding outside, he couldn't let his guard down, as Kenda had deliberately exaggerated the potential threats.

Being distracted by Ellie's antics was the last thing he needed while monitoring for any danger.

However, until Barney and his group returned from the Cemetery Building, not a single enemy appeared.

The first day passed uneventfully, and Barney showed off his immense wealth as he bought three items at the auction on the first day.

Since Law stayed beside Ellie, he was indeed able to see the items up close, but he had no chance to touch it. However, there was no Nen attached to the three items that Barney bought on the first day.

According to Ellie, the combined winning bid for those three items was 620 million Jenny.

After learning the price, Law almost couldn't believe his ears. Only then did he realize that he had misunderstood something about antiques.

Antiques that are imbued with Nen are not necessarily valuable, nor will their value increase simply because they are imbued with Nen. What can highlight the value of an antique is the antique itself.

On the second day, still no attacks occurred, and Barney acquired two more items.

The third day…

The fourth day…

The fifth day…

All the way to the final day of the Yorknew Auction, there was not a single attack. By this point, Kenda felt several times that the way Law's eyes looked at him is somewhat strange.

Who made him carefully tell Law a lot of things to be careful of on the first day, and gave examples of several crazy things that the enemies had done in the past? As a result, who knew that this year's trip to Yorknew Auction would be so peaceful.

It's really embarrassing...

However, no one could afford to let their guard down until they were safely out of Yorknew City. After all, based on past experiences, the journey from Yorknew City to Lingon Airport was the most dangerous point.

Over the course of ten days, Barney successfully purchased 21 items. While Law refrained from using Gyo to examine these items openly, but relying on the reminder of the white smoke text, he found that two items were imbued with Nen.

The ratio was equivalent to ten to one, as two items were imbued with Nen out of twenty-one. The problem is, Law never had a chance to touch the items.

On the night when the auction ended, the group departed directly from the hotel at 10 PM, and directly headed for Lingon Airport.

They still used six cars, but this time, the leading car occupied by Kuri and the other three from Meteor City.

They expected to arrive at Lingon Airport before midnight, but shortly after leaving the hotel, they encountered a traffic jam.

September 10th marked the final night of the Yorknew Auction. Many attendees chose to leave the city immediately after the auction, causing a surge in traffic and resulting in congestion.

To make matters worse, the weather took a turn for the worse. Dark clouds loomed ominously overhead, hinting at an impending storm.

By 11 PM, the traffic was still crawling at a snail's pace.

At this rate, they wouldn't arrive at the airport until at least 1 AM. Fortunately, the return flight was a private one, so there was no need to worry about missing the flight.

Under the cover of night, figures slowly emerged from the roofs of the buildings surrounding the driveway.

These figures are scattered in various rooftops. There are quite a few of them, hiding in places where the light cannot reach, but they still can observe the traffic below.

The current location was still within Yorknew City, about 20 minutes from the outskirts.

The traffic jam included not only auction attendees attempting to leave, but also many local residents.

However, the figures on the rooftops clearly didn't have good intentions, and there is no guarantee that they would spare the innocent civilians caught in the crossfire once they decided to strike.

Among the many figures, there was one figure that was very special… it was Illumi.

He is the youngest one among these people and also the most arrogant.

Standing at the highest vantage point, he can clearly see the people hiding on the top of each building, but he will also be discovered by those people.

Illumi checked his phone briefly before slipping it back into his pocket.

"The last one, Barney Garfield."

At this time, the dark clouds that had been brewing for nearly two hours began to move, and heavy rain poured down.

In less than a moment, a water curtain large enough to blur vision was formed between sky and earth.

The figures atop the rooftops began to move at this time, silently closing in on their targets within the traffic below.

Because of the heavy rain, the vision was severely obstructed, and Law did not notice the people on the roof.

Moreover, he did not notice that Kuri and Vogt, who were sent by the Elder, also quietly revealed their fangs.
