Chapter 32: Chapter 32 - Practice VS Nekoma (Part 2)
The game continued with the Hinata-Kageyama duo scoring many points through their quick attacks and normal attacks, with Hinata getting the upper hand against Nekoma's blocks, especially when it was just Inuoka trying to stop his attack. When the score reached 12-6, Nekoma's coach decided to call a timeout.
"The libero and attackers are good, but that first-year duo is causing us a lot of problems. The setter is very technical and has incredible precision in his touches, placing the ball exactly where the attackers want it. And you must have noticed that the orange-haired guy is equally talented - their spikes are extremely difficult to stop, his serve is elite, and his receives are solid... being completely honest, if I could choose someone as an Ace, he would be the guy," said Nekomata, leaving some Nekoma players a bit apprehensive.
"However, talent alone doesn't guarantee victory in a match..." Nekomata continued.
"To win against them, we'll need to find a way to stop Shoyo... we'll have to improve our block reading and put as many people as possible to block him," said Kenma.
The game resumed with Kai serving to Karasuno's court, which was easily received by Nishinoya, who directed the pass to Kageyama. He decided to do a quick attack with Hinata, who this time faced a well-timed triple block.
"What? They didn't even try to mark the Ace. I was careless," thought Kageyama.
"Triple block?" thought Hinata as he tipped the ball over Nekoma's block.
"A feint?!" thought Inuoka as he watched the ball pass over his hands toward the floor.
"I got it!" said Yaku as he dove and put his hand between the floor and the ball, managing to prevent Karasuno's point and passing the ball to Kenma, who then set to Yamamoto, who jumped and managed to spike through Kageyama's arms. 12-7 Karasuno.
"Tsk! Looks like they're going to concentrate most of their blocks on Hinata," thought Kageyama.
"It's okay! Isn't this the kind of strategy that only works a few times?" said Daichi.
"Yeah... if they keep sending blocks just for Hinata, I can just fake it and send it to someone else," said Kageyama.
"The rest of us are good too! Don't underestimate us!" said Tanaka.
In the next attack, Tanaka served and was received by Yaku, who passed to Kenma. After analyzing Karasuno's positioning, he faked looking at Inuoka, suggesting he would set to him, and then made a dump that went toward Karasuno's court floor, and Nishinoya couldn't reach the ball in time.
"Damn it!" grumbled Nishinoya after seeing the ball hit the floor.
After that Nekoma point, there was a substitution of Yaku for Kuroo, who was now going to the front of the net.
"Hey! Inuoka, it's your turn to serve!" said Kuroo, handing him the ball and taking his place at the net, then looking at Hinata and giving a mischievous smile.
"Hey! Hinata, I have a feeling that with this guy at the net, they'll stop sending triple blocks at you," said Kageyama while pulling Hinata away to prevent the other team from hearing.
"Got it!" said Hinata.
Next, Inuoka serves and is easily received by Nishinoya, who directs it to Kageyama.
"Nice receive," said Kageyama while observing the opposing block and deciding to pass to Hinata, who this time received a block from Kuroo and Kenma and performs a cross-court spike that was headed to the back of the court, but Kuroo skillfully moved his arm to the side of the spike and managed to block Hinata's attack.
"Whoa, calm down, freshman!... don't go thinking you'll keep scoring on our team non-stop!" Kuroo taunted while looking at Hinata.
"That was a good block... but let's see next time!" said Hinata.
Inuoka serves again and is again well received, this time by Daichi who passes to Kageyama.
"Nice receive," said Kageyama.
"Maybe it would be good to set to someone else until we better understand this guy's game..." thought Kageyama while about to touch the ball and set to Asahi until he looked at Hinata who was looking at him with a face that seemed to call him without even saying anything.
"Alright... let's go again," thought Kageyama while executing a quick attack with Hinata, who again was met by Kuroo and Kenma, but this time Hinata's attack was able to go over their block and slam into the floor.
"Don't go thinking it's so simple to stop me!" Hinata taunted.
After Karasuno's point, it was Hinata's turn, who was already positioned to serve.
"Bring it!" thought Yaku while watching Hinata jump and hit the ball with all his strength as it flew toward his court slightly to the left, so he just moved in that direction and directed his wrists to the ball that came with plenty of power and exploded off his arms and went out.
On the next serve, Hinata used his fastest serve, this time aiming for the back of the court on the right, forcing Yaku to move across the court and dive toward the ball and give it a small tap to keep it in play and toward Kenma, who this time set to Kuroo in the middle of the net, which provoked a triple block from Karasuno's team where Tanaka, Kageyama, and Tsukishima (who had come in for Nishinoya) jumped but ended up watching Kuroo delay his jump slightly and jumping after the block was already back on the ground.
"Oh! What a strange attack!" observed Takeda.
"Yes! It's an attack that few people use nowadays, but it involves delaying the jump a bit to modify the timing of the attack to trick the block that will jump before," explained Ukai.
The game continued with Karasuno having problems attacking when Kuroo was at the net and Hinata was off the court, causing Nekoma's team to recover at the end of the first set, but Karasuno's team managed to close the first set taking advantage of what they had gained from the start, winning the first set: 25-21
