Chapter 412: Chapter 412: Lifting the Control
After swearing loyalty to Alaric, Garona began to see herself as Alaric's attendant. Even at night, she would stay near his room to ensure his safety.
In light of this situation, the royal guards sent by Llane repeatedly reminded Alaric, suggesting that it was inappropriate to have a half-orc rogue as a follower, as there was no guarantee that Garona was genuinely committed to serving Alaric.
However, Alaric ignored these suggestions as he always had.
Of course, Garona couldn't fully trust anyone at this point because the dark powers of the orc warlock Gul'dan still lingered within her.
As long as she came into contact with Gul'dan again, he could seize the opportunity to manipulate her thoughts and distort her will.
Since becoming Alaric's attendant, Garona had resolved her inner turmoil and revealed her dark past to him in its entirety.
What she didn't know was that Alaric understood her better than she realized, even knowing many secrets she herself was unaware of.
Garona's existence was orchestrated by Gul'dan.
During the orcs' persecution of the Draenei, Gul'dan captured a Draenei girl, one of the leaders of her people, who was the sister of the commander, Mal'Radh.
Gul'dan forced her to mate with one of his orc warriors, resulting in the birth of the half-breed Garona.
From Garona's childhood, Gul'dan infused his dark powers into her body, controlling her soul to ensure her absolute obedience when necessary.
Thus, she became a weapon used by Gul'dan for assassination.
Gul'dan's means of controlling Garona were twofold: one was the power of Gul'dan hidden within Garona, and the other was her weapon—the "Kingslayer," which was also revered as an artifact of the rogue class.
The Kingslayer consisted of a pair of powerful and terrifying daggers, named Pain and Sorrow.
In the original history, the Kingslayer lived up to its name, having murdered kings, generals, soldiers, mages, demons, and countless others under Garona's hand, with its most glorious victim being King Llane of the Stormwind Kingdom.
The creator of the Kingslayer was an orc, crafted by the orc chieftain Blackhand himself using the same methods that forged the legendary orc weapon, the Doomhammer.
The materials came from Kil'jaeden, one of the leaders of the Burning Legion, infused with the dark essence of this right-hand man of Sargeras.
With the help of these daggers, Garona nearly became the true reaper in the darkness, with no exceptions as countless enemies of Gul'dan fell beneath their blades.
To better control Garona, Gul'dan placed another dark magic within the daggers, causing Garona to easily submit to his will when wielding them.
In fact, as depicted in the original story, if Garona were to discard these daggers, she could free herself from Gul'dan's control to a certain extent.
However, this was a last resort only in Garona's personal circumstance.
For Alaric, doing so would be a waste—after all, this was the famous "Kingslayer." How could it be so casually discarded?
As a precaution, before returning to Stormwind City, Alaric conducted a thorough examination of Garona.
Not the physical kind, but an investigation into the magical powers hidden within her.
It turned out that Gul'dan was indeed a master of manipulating souls, mastering the evil magic granted by demons to perfection.
Alaric believed that even the mages of Dalaran couldn't surpass him in this regard.
Unfortunately for Gul'dan, he encountered Alaric, a prodigy from another world.
Regarding the study of souls, while the world of World of Warcraft certainly had demons skilled in manipulating souls and necromancy magic researching soul revival, the Harry Potter world was not to be underestimated in this area.
The Resurrection Stone, ghosts, and moving portraits in the Harry Potter world all represented their exploration of souls, along with the Killing Curse, a spell directly targeting souls, Horcruxes resembling phylacteries of liches, and the study of illusions between life and death.
Overall, the Harry Potter universe's exploration of soul magic was slightly less advanced than that of World of Warcraft.
However, with Alaric's level of expertise, he was at least capable of dealing with Gul'dan's methods.
Thus, during his examination of Garona, Alaric naturally "discovered" the presence of Gul'dan's power and successfully expelled it.
He even modified the Kingslayer daggers, completely erasing Gul'dan's influence.
Now, Garona was no longer Gul'dan's puppet; she could live freely according to her own will.
She then followed Alaric back to Stormwind City.
In Stormwind, King Llane warmly welcomed Garona.
With Alaric as a testament to her credibility, King Llane, along with his queen and prince Varian, accepted Garona's presence and treated her as they would a normal human being.
Although Commander Lothar maintained a basic level of vigilance towards Garona, he no longer regarded her as an enemy.
Being accepted, trusted, and treated equally—everything Garona had once sought but could never attain now appeared before her like a clearance sale.
For a moment, she felt as if she had arrived in paradise.
Of course, not everyone could view Garona normally.
Many nobles and soldiers cast her disapproving glances—how could a savage orc bask in the light of high-ranking figures and hold a position in human society?
Jealousy and hatred were inevitable, as not everyone was as enlightened as Llane and Lothar.
Nevertheless, for Garona, this was far better than her past. She was immensely grateful to Alaric for bringing her such a life.
The scales of her heart had completely shifted from the orcs to humanity—or rather, to Alaric himself.
Thus, she became increasingly unwilling to see the human side destroyed by the orc horde's terrifying army.
She began using her knowledge of the orc clans to assist the Kingdom of Stormwind.
She started helping Alaric revise his work, and soon, the manuscript titled "Preliminary Analysis and Speculations on the Suspected Otherworldly Race of Orcs" transformed into "Alien Invaders: Everything About the Demon's Minions, the Orc Race, and the Origins of War."
This manuscript recorded everything about the existence of the Dark Portal, the actions of the orcs in Draenor, as well as the true inner workings of the orc clans and how to exploit these advantages, among other details.
This allowed the Kingdom of Stormwind to predict orc behavior in their wars accurately and respond appropriately.
In an instant, the casualties between the Kingdom of Stormwind and the orc horde began to significantly decline.
