Chapter 247: politics
*Morpheus pov*
"Thank you for being here my friend." Magorian said with a sad smile his eyes spoke of profound lost
I nodded solemnly, "I'm sorry about your wife, she died a warrior." I saw the effort he put into raising a small but noticeable smile, "She did, her spirit is now one with nature."
He looked around, "I don't think we can help you much in the coming war Morpheus, we took heavy loses but our spirits are still here burning for vengeance. Tell me what would my father have done?"
I cracked a smile, "You would know better than I Magorian but, I remember it was during the last war they attacked the settlements and many centaurs had to migrate. Before this forest became reclusive your father ruled it like a kingdom letting any Centaur with the will to live and fight on join so they could rise again. Perhaps it's time to speak branch from this forest?" I ventured delicately
Magorian frowned, "Perhaps." he said softly his face settling into a thoughtful expression, "Perhaps your line of thinking isn't wrong." he uttered
The path I pushed his thinking toward was guided by my sight but something told me Magorian would surprise me in the near future. Centaurs are funny creatures, they aren't the best warriors compared to those behind the veil but centaurs have something no one else does.
The love of deviation magic. Its practically attuned to their very souls, which makes it oh so hard to tell which future will be true.
But I knew something definite, Magorian will come through in a big way for me.
Turning back to the people I sighed, "Your father once asked me why I continue to fight what he deemed a losing battle. You were but a child then and I think he grew weary of war. My answer then was not profound, my answer now is equally as mundane. I keep resisting so what happened here doesn't happen across the whole world. Goodnight Magorian."
Magorian didn't turn his eyes away from the fire as I walked away, "Goodnight Morpheus."

Faint red lines pulsed on top of my skin as I went through what my doppelganger got up to today. A smile of approval made its way onto my lips as I got to the forbidden forest part. I should have gone in person but, I forgot to engrossed in my work.
I had to do something to keep my mind off things, I knew the actual war wasn't until later but I also knew it was coming much sooner than I initially planned. I fear once Voldemort is done with and everything goes according to plan then the plans of my enemies will accelerate.
As I prepared to go back into my office Negary appeared with a letter, "Thank you." I took the letter from his beak and began to read it carefully
It seemed the goblins wanted to meet right now.
After pouring some scotch for Negary I set out immediately, leaving from my floo to diagon alley and then walking into Gringotts, "Im expected." I showed the letter causing the teller to hop from his stool and motion me to follow
The trip was silent as we descended into the depths. It felt odd not hearing the complaints of whatever goblin was in charge of escorting me, something might actually be amiss.
Hopefully not politics, goblin politics are the worst. They seem simple compared to wizarding politics but that's just a trap for the unaware.
My trip to the castle was uneventful to say the least. Stepping into the meeting room I spotted Grommash furiously flipping through papers my steps alerted him to look up sharply, "Morpheus! I'm glad you got my letter in time its been a hectic past couple of weeks."
I smiled taking my seat across from him, "Tell me about it, it seems everyone is so serious around here."
He scoffed, "We must be times are changing my friend. It seems your allies in Egypt made contact with the branch over there and now things are becoming messy, some lesser branches want to join the Angel's side of the war."
My eyes widened in surprise, "Khufu? I'm surprised he made contact he usually stays in his tomb."
Grommash grunted, "No it was Anubis. he trotted into one of the branches demanding access to a vault."
I couldn't help but smile, "That sounds like him, what was the issue?" I remember Anubis didn't seem too happy after I freed him
"The branch is being difficult, they want to side with the Angels I guess there was a meeting I wasn't aware of. Though the delegate they met hasn't shown up in a while, apparently the Angels thought the goblins killed the representative until things were sorted." Grommash said irritably
Hm, oh yes that was probably me.
Oops.
"So? Lay down the law my friend you hold the highest honor last I checked." he cringed at my words
"Politics." he said simply
I sighed, "Politics."
"Now." I spoke after a brief period of silence, "What is the other reason you asked me here surely it wasn't just for this?"
He laughed, "Of course not! I have news potentially disastrous news but you must know you cannot divulge how you have learned it."
"Of course." I agreed, "Secrecy is one of the tenets of our pact."
"Good." he mumbled, "Very well, several of our clients have recently withdrawn large sums of Galleons from their vaults. Enough to build an army," he said gravely
"Am I correct in assuming the clients are in favor of Voldemort?" I asked
He nodded, "Indeed, I thought I should tell you in person you never know who reads your mail."
Just Negary that little sneak.
"I see, thank you for letting me know." things are approaching steadily the last battle Voldemort will ever attend is coming soon
"Another thing, be careful I fear if more branches decide to join this little resistance you will find it hard to venture into another bank." he warned and I could see the fury in his eyes
His rule was being challenged.
I nodded solemnly, "Grommash, remember this alliance goes both ways call on me whenever you need and I will be there to help you."
He bared his teeth, "I tell you these things because want our alliance to pay off. I don't need your assistance I have seen the price of it. Your methods will do nothing but sow more discontent especially if it looks like I need a human to solve my issues."
I smiled softly, "I understand." standing I nodded to him before taking my leave
My steps echoed through the chamber as I left. The fury in his eyes during our talk was meaningful, goblin blood will be spilled soon and I hope he comes out on top.
Little buggers make perfect allies for gorilla warfare
A/N: Again sorry I know this looks like not a whole lot but truly this is for pacing, stuff is going to start happening in rapid steps and I don't want you to feel like you are missing massive pieces of info. Happy holidays!
