Harry Potter: Using science to be IMMORTAL

Chapter 379: Chapter 378: The OGAS Project

In September, with the approval of the Supreme Committee, Sukhov began implementing OGAS—also known as the OGAS Project.

The plan was divided into three major steps:

The first step was to fully implement computerization and paperless office operations in government agencies and state-owned enterprises, based on existing computer resources and the internet. To ensure the security of information, from the outset, two parallel networks were constructed: a non-secret system and a secret system.

For the non-secret system, Sukhov's Umbrella Corporation was contracted to build a government public cloud system, which would serve as the backbone of the future national internet. Its hardware included a supercomputer in Moscow with a computing power of no less than 100 PFLOPS and a server cluster, along with 163 state-level computing nodes, totaling computing power equivalent to 0.1 of the Pioneer supercomputer.

The software was an integrated suite of official system applications encompassing all departments, with each department having a set of vertical business systems developed according to departmental functions. All data from various levels of departments operated within this business system. Moreover, all departments were interconnected through a common integrated data interface, enabling data sharing between different departments.

The secret system operated parallel to the non-secret system, with a basically identical structure but much smaller computing power. Departments interacted only through a small amount of data exchange via secret documents and email systems. Lower-level computing nodes and communication lines were physically isolated from the internet, connecting only to the Pioneer supercomputer at the top level.

Enterprises acted as user terminals, standardized through a unified electronic system, with all transactions required to be conducted through this system.

This step would be implemented from the central to local levels, planned and supervised by the National Laboratory's central supercomputer "Pioneer," expected to be completed by the end of 1999, requiring three years.

The second step was to promote mobile internet nationwide, relying on more advanced wireless communication technology combined with the Starlink satellite project to establish a nationwide wireless communication network, bringing the benefits of the information age to ordinary people.

Umbrella Corporation, in partnership with several major communication departments, established the Umbrella Communications Group, responsible for constructing nearly four million high-speed wireless communication towers nationwide and communication service clusters in various regions and Moscow. These were integrated into the main network under the unified supervision of Pioneer.

Umbrella Corporation also planned to launch affordable digital communication devices, covering more than half of the country's primary consumer population.

This step would start simultaneously with the first, expected to be 50% complete by 2000 and 90% by 2003.

The third step, based on Pioneer's strict control over national economic data through information analysis, gradually deregulated non-critical industries, loosened capital restrictions, stimulated market vitality, and smoothly transitioned to a semi-market economy.

Simultaneously, advanced sensor technologies were deployed and developed to advance the Internet of Things, incorporating production, transportation, security, and public welfare into the internet, further enhancing OGAS's information collection and analysis capabilities. By 2006, within about ten years, the "National Brain" centered on the OGAS Project was expected to be completed.

"This is truly an ambitious plan..." Arkaim, the Empress, looking at the plan before her, "What does Arkaim need to do?"

"It's not necessary for Arkaim to do anything specifically, but as you know, laboratories have always lacked wizards, and the production departments too, due to a shortage of magic stones. Many areas still require wizard assistance."

The Empress nodded, "I understand, but Arkaim's personnel have been stretched thin lately, with an increase in magical disasters within Sukhov's borders. We've had to reassign many from other departments, even the Royal Guard has deployed many. It might be difficult to find wizards meeting your requirements anytime soon."

"I can train them if you allow. I want to recruit wizard workers in the city. Many jobs don't require high qualifications; even housewives could do it, as long as they are wizards," Murphy said.

"Alright," the Empress agreed.

After a moment of silence, Murphy took a sip of tea, "How have you been feeling lately?"

"Fine," the Empress said.

"I heard your hypersomnia has worsened?"

"Did Lady Yaga tell you?" The Empress frowned, "I told her not to meddle. No wonder you came over for no significant reason."

Murphy thought for a moment, "May I diagnose you?"

"It's probably just a physiological habit of the vampire race, I'm still not used to sleeping during the day and waking up at night..." the Empress said.

"It's a bit strange, vampires have strong regenerative abilities, you should have adapted by now. When did your symptoms worsen?"

"About three months ago," the Empress said.

"Did anything special happen then?"

"Nothing special..." the Empress thought, then frowned, shook her head, "No, that shouldn't count as anything..."

"What did you think of?" Murphy asked.

"I just remembered, three months ago I had a nightmare. I dreamt someone was trying to capture me, and there was a chain... I don't know why, but I felt extremely scared in that dream, and I was awakened by fear... But that was just a dream."

"What did you say?!" Murphy was startled.

Three months ago, chains... This made him think of the black ship that appeared at Hogwarts. At that time, three chains were shot out: one captured Voldemort, one aimed at him, and the third disappeared into the void.

Murphy, busy escaping and dealing with the Saint at the time, hadn't given it much thought, but now he remembered Dumbledore mentioning the Saint believed it had to eliminate three enemies: himself, Tom Riddle, and the Prophet Myriam.

Considering this, could the chain that disappeared into the void have targeted Myriam? Myriam resided behind the Door of the Afterlife in the Ancestral Tomb, which seemed to be part of the spirit world, possibly reachable by the ship's chains.

The Empress's dream might be related to this event.

But why would this cause the Empress's hypersomnia to worsen?

Ultimately, what is the relationship between the Prophet Myriam and the Empress?

Thinking back to the girl who looked exactly like Sophia he saw behind the Door of the Afterlife, he felt uneasy.

Could this be some sort of soul transmigration drama?

"Your Majesty, I must ask you a question," Murphy said, "What is your relationship with the Ancestor Myriam behind the Door of the Afterlife? Are you aware of her current condition?"

"Why do you ask?" Sophia looked puzzled, "The Prophet is my ancestor, nothing more. After all, she lived over a thousand years ago."

"As for her current condition, the Door of the Afterlife has been closed since it was last opened, and no one can enter."

...

Murphy left, promising to have the laboratory increase efforts in developing treatments for vampire weaknesses, which might help alleviate her symptoms.

After Murphy left, Sophia went to the window, looked through the blackout curtains at the bright garden outside, then closed the curtains and lay back on the bed.

She closed her eyes, waiting to sink back into that distant dream.
