Chapter 80: Tina's Anger

"Remember Kevin Donovan?" Newt asked.

David and Rove nodded. Kevin was also one of Newt's students. When David and Rove were younger, Kevin often visited Newt to discuss magical creatures and their behavior.

Newt continued, "This year, Kevin became fascinated with marching ants and decided to study a colony in Africa. One day, while following their trail deep into the forest, he noticed something peculiar—the ants abruptly detoured around an area. This behavior puzzled him because marching ants rarely alter their paths. Even obstacles like puddles don't deter them; they simply build bridges with their bodies and move forward. Yet here they were, avoiding a seemingly clear woodland."

"Intrigued, Kevin used a potion to make the ants backtrack. As they passed through the area they had avoided, they made another detour. Realizing this wasn't normal, Kevin decided to investigate. When he ventured forward himself, he discovered that his path was redirected as well. Someone had placed a powerful interference charm and an invisibility spell over the area, effectively concealing it from both creatures and humans."

"Kevin's curiosity led him to circle the hidden area, and he found it was enormous. Looking at some old photos we had, he speculated this might be a base of the R organization and promptly alerted us. We immediately traveled to the site to investigate."

Newt's face lit up with pride as he spoke. "Kevin's discovery was pivotal. When we arrived, we spent days trying to crack the spells protecting the area. Despite our best efforts, it became clear the area was under a Fidelity Charm, which made it nearly impossible to breach. But the discovery only strengthened our resolve. We knew something was hidden there."

"We stayed near the area for nearly a month," Newt explained. "Just as we were about to give up, a group of wizards emerged from the hidden space carrying a large box. We seized the opportunity and ambushed them, intercepting the box. Unfortunately, the wizards managed to escape back into the hidden area. If it weren't for Riem, our trusty creature companion, we might not have even gotten the box."

David and Rove exchanged glances. "So the R organization, known for its secrecy, was exposed by… ants?" David said, smirking.

Newt chuckled. "Indeed. Sometimes, the smallest creatures can make the biggest difference."

Rove suddenly asked, "What about the people who helped you?"

Newt's expression turned thoughtful. "They seemed to appear out of nowhere. Neither the zoologists nor the Aurors accompanying us had heard of them. They've raided multiple R organization trade sites, providing significant assistance. Their intelligence and combat skills are exceptional, but they're very secretive and rarely communicate with us."

"And the magical animals they rescued?" David asked.

"They take the animals to a protected island. Some of us have visited it, and it's a very secure place. Any animals they can't transport are left in our care," Newt said. "Interestingly, they don't trust the Ministry's magical animal protection departments, calling them incompetent."

David muttered, "Well, they sound pretty cool."

Tina, who had been quietly listening, finally spoke. "You've seen the photos and heard the story. What do you think?"

"Those people are despicable!" Rove declared, his fists clenched. David nodded in agreement.

Tina's gaze sharpened. "And what do you plan to do about it?"

David hesitated. "Uh… isn't that your job?"

Tina's voice grew stern. "Do you know why we didn't want you to know about this? Because we knew you'd want to get involved! Have you forgotten you're just eleven-year-old wizards? You've only just started school!"

She continued, her tone heavy with frustration, "This isn't some game. The people we're dealing with now are dangerous, far more so than the petty criminals we've faced before. Many of our team members are already in the hospital, and it's only been a few months. You two can't even cast a proper Shield Charm, yet you want to face these threats?"

David and Rove hung their heads, guilt washing over them.

Tina softened slightly but remained firm. "Forget what you heard tonight. Focus on your studies. Your job is to grow into capable wizards who can protect these creatures in the future. For now, leave this fight to us."

She placed a hand on each of their heads. "Your grandpa and I can still handle this. One day, when we can't, it'll be your turn. But not now."

David and Rove nodded reluctantly. Tina gave them each a kiss on the forehead. "Now off to bed. And remember, today is Christmas. Let's try to enjoy it."

As the boys walked toward the stairs, Rove paused and turned. "Grandpa, Grandma… can we help when we learn the Shield Charm?"

David's face lit up with hope as he awaited their answer.

Tina sighed, a faint smile tugging at her lips. "Fine. If you can master the Shield Charm, I'll let you join us for less dangerous missions."

The boys cheered, high-fiving each other as they dashed upstairs. Tina watched them go, shaking her head with a mix of exasperation and fondness.

In the shadows of the corridor, John, another family member, quietly retreated to his room. He patted his chest, where his wand rested, and whispered to himself, "I'm not always a coward. I used to be Ilvermorny's dueling champion, after all."
