Chapter 83: The Dragon Knight

David stared into the Mirror of Erised, mesmerized by the images it revealed. After the scene of his parents disappeared, the mirror began to shift and transform, its fragments rearranging like pieces of a puzzle.

The first image appeared in the far-left corner—a broken and dilapidated Hogwarts Castle. It was a shocking sight, the proud castle reduced to ruins, though the meaning of this vision eluded him.

Next, a new scene unfolded on the right. A long bridge stretched out, crowded with wizards. Many wore tattered black robes, while others had masks with the insignia of the mysterious "R Organization." Their faces were tight with anxiety, but one figure stood out. At the forefront was Voldemort himself, his pale, snake-like face twisted into a sinister grin. He held one hand aloft, pointing toward the heavens, laughing maniacally. His confidence stood in stark contrast to the fearful expressions of those behind him.

The bottom-middle part of the mirror then illuminated. David could see the teachers and students of Hogwarts assembled, their faces resolute, their wands raised. They were battered and scarred, but unyielding. Among them stood Newt Scamander, Tina, and John, along with a host of magical creatures. Yet David himself was nowhere to be seen.

Where am I? he thought. Surely, I wouldn't run away... would I?

Finally, the central frame came into focus. The skies above Hogwarts were filled with majestic magical creatures—phoenixes, thunderbirds, and griffins soared alongside a formation of dragons. David appeared at last, standing atop the head of a massive dragon with dark, shimmering scales. He held his wand high, his expression fearless, as he gazed down at Voldemort on the ground below.

David couldn't help but grin. Now that's a sight! If only it were real.

He turned away from the mirror, satisfied. "That was... enlightening," he said, stepping back.

Dumbledore watched him with a kind smile. "What did you see?"

David smirked. "The final boss fight in my game."

Dumbledore's eyebrows raised. "Oh? And in this game, are you the dragon or the warrior?"

"The warrior, of course." David tapped his chest. "Heart of gold and all that."

Dumbledore chuckled, his eyes twinkling. "An admirable role."

Next, it was Hermione's turn. She hesitated, then approached the mirror nervously. She stared into it, her mouth dropping open in awe. "I'm the greatest scholar in the world!" she exclaimed.

Her excitement quickly gave way to embarrassment as her cheeks turned a deep crimson. She glanced away from the mirror, her hands fidgeting, and quickly retreated.

"What else did you see?" David asked, confused by her sudden shift in demeanor.

"N-nothing!" Hermione stammered, her voice high-pitched. "Just... nothing important."

Dumbledore gave a gentle laugh, then gestured for them to return. "It's late. We should all head back before Filch decides to start patrolling again."

---

Back at the Gryffindor common room, Hermione tugged on Dumbledore's sleeve. "Professor, will we lose points for sneaking out?"

Dumbledore stroked his beard thoughtfully. "Ah, my memory isn't what it used to be... What were we doing just now? Something about socks, perhaps?"

With that cryptic response, he turned and left. Hermione beamed with relief. "No points deducted!" she whispered excitedly.

David grinned. "Not unless Filch catches us out here. Let's get inside."

They hurried through the portrait hole, and Hermione paused before heading to her dormitory. "Goodnight, David!" she called cheerfully, disappearing up the stairs.

---

Life at Hogwarts returned to its usual rhythm. Hermione and David stuck to their routine of classes, the library, and meals in the Great Hall, while Harry and Ron spent most of their time on the Quidditch pitch.

Oliver Wood, the Gryffindor Quidditch captain, was in full-blown training mode, shouting instructions so loudly that David could hear him from across the grounds. "The guy's obsessed," David muttered as he watched Harry stagger off the pitch after yet another grueling practice.

Two major events unfolded during this time. First, Harry finally discovered who Nicolas Flamel was—on a Chocolate Frog card, of all places. This marked a victory for the "snack-based research" method. The trio learned about the Philosopher's Stone and realized it was the treasure guarded by the three-headed dog.

David inwardly sighed in relief. At last! I don't have to keep acting clueless. I'd deserve an Oscar if I kept this up any longer.

The second event revolved around an upcoming Quidditch match. Snape volunteered to referee, ostensibly to protect Harry after the broom sabotage incident. But Harry, Ron, and Hermione were unconvinced, fearing that Snape's real intent was far more sinister.

"Just break your leg," Ron suggested, only half-joking. "Then you won't have to play."

Fortunately, Harry didn't resort to self-harm, and on match day, Dumbledore's unexpected arrival eased his nerves. With a confident performance, Harry caught the Snitch in record time, earning Gryffindor a decisive victory.

Wood was ecstatic, already imagining the Quidditch Cup in Gryffindor's trophy case. At the celebratory party, he became so enthusiastic that David had to intervene to stop him from hugging Harry into oblivion.

---

The festive mood didn't last long. Exams loomed on the horizon, and Hermione's nerves kicked into overdrive. At the end of the party, she slipped David a folded piece of parchment. He opened it later that night, expecting something sentimental—perhaps a heartfelt note or even a confession.

Instead, he found a meticulously detailed study schedule, complete with color-coded sections and footnotes.

David sighed, crumpling onto his bed. "Well, there goes my free time."
