Heir of Abraxus - A Harry Potter Fanfiction

Chapter 44: Christmas Holidays

Out of the three, Habol turned out to be the first to wake up in the morning, waking up the other two before even the early birds of the Slytherin house had come down into the common room.

When Julius opened his eyes the first thing he noticed was a piercing headache, apparently even magic wasn't enough to protect someone with his constitution from the aftereffects of sleeping in that kind of position.

As it was already winter there wasn't even any sunlight lighting up the common room, only the cold magic flames that were always burning no matter the time.

"Anyone up for a quick walk around the lake? At least I personally really need a bit of fresh air after this night. And looking at you two I'm not the only one", Habol asked.

Apparently even someone like him needed his sleep, though it was probably not even nearly as bad for him as it was for Julius and Lia only seemed a bit tired.

"I couldn't care less what you two are going to do right now, but I'll go back into my room and you can be sure I won't leave my bed until noon."

With these words Lia slowly picked herself up from her armchair and slowly made her way back to the girls' dorms while the boys got ready for their walk.

...

It turned out a bit of fresh air, the beautiful view of the castle grounds at dawn and a casual conversation about quidditch were enough to significantly improve both of their days.

And so when the two met up with Lia in the great hall for lunch she noticed to her great annoyance that both of them were just as energetic as ever, while she was still just as tired as when she first woke up in the morning with a slight headache to boot.

After grumbling for a while she too couldn't resist to enter a heated discussion on quidditch tactics and her sleepiness gradually began fading away.

It was an important day for all of them after all; today was Slytherin's first game of the season and there was no way in hell they were gonna miss it or spend the day annoyed just because of something trivial like this, after all it had all worked out in the end.

After finishing lunch a bit quicker than usual they quickly dressed up in green and silver clothing, including scarfes and gloves with Slytherin's snake and name.

Most of their house did the same considering not attending could be seen as violating the number one rule in Slytherin: That they were to present a united front to everyone else, no matter what.

But while it was common in other houses to bring a few more pieces of merch if one was really interested in quidditch, in Slytherin something like that would most likely be seen as a shame for your family's name, one of the things most important to those in the house of snakes.

And while that may not be all that important to Habol, Lia and Julius still needed to represent their families properly as many eyes where always on them even though it wasn't quite as much as during the journey with the Hogwarts Express as that was usually seen as the chance to make "friends" at Hogwarts, forming alliances, or better cliques, which might hold even after school, when the small children from back then became the heads of their respective houses.

But even if they could've, none of them really wanted to walk around with things like a big animated stuffed animal on their shoulders so it didn't really matter to the two and even Habol was happy to just wear the same things his friends were.

And after a bit of waiting, Flint started his commentating again, only far more motivated this time

"Ladies and gentlemen, witches and wizards, prepare yourselves for an electrifying display of Quidditch prowess here at Hogwarts! I'm your commentator, Horace Flint, here to bring you the action from the stands. Today, it's Slytherin versus Ravenclaw, a clash of cunning and intellect that's sure to keep us on the edge of our seats!

So, let's dive headfirst into the excitement! Gryffindor vs. Hufflepuff may be as thrilling as watching paint dry, but Slytherin versus Ravenclaw? Now that's a match worth every ounce of our enthusiasm!"

...

After the exciting quidditch match was over, both sides had been forced to give it their all especially Slytherin as they didn't want to be quite as vicious as when playing Gryffindor so it had been a hard-fought match with Ravenclaw even being in the lead before Slytherin managed to get the snitch, life at Hogwarts resumed as usual with the three friends still studying on their own in their free time as the christmas break was approaching.

And even though he was pretty satisfied with his life as it was at the moment, Julius still couldn't help but feel a bit frustrated with his progress in death magic, after all that was one of his two cheat keys that were supposed to help him reach the peak of this world in the future.

While he had in fact seen an improvement in his casting speed and also a slight improvement in his ability to manipulate the magic, especially after he'd reached the threshold of 20 in his magic power, there was simply no improvement at all in the actual strength of his spell.

And that was after all what would allow him to finally use the magic as his trump card should he have no other alternative.

But at least his legilimency was improving at a fast pace to the point where he was now planning to start training with Habol during the holiday.

Well, that and he also had another plan for the holidays, though that one wouldn't pay back all that quickly.

But all of that immediately became completely irrelevant whenever Julius thought about Daph and Tori and of course about his mother.

It'd been a while that he'd seen the three of them after all and nothing could replace his family.

...

And just like that the christmas holidays came closer and closer, with McGonnagal taking the names of those who would be staying in the castle and everyone else already starting to pack their things, while the christmas spirit was slowly making itself known, until the day came, that the students who went back home where leaving the castle for the Hogwarts Express.
