Chapter 8: Chapter 6: Secretary
Zein's POV
I met my friends in the dorm. There is a trace of fatigue in each other.
"Did you get any information?" Jerome asked after drinking some water.
"No, we were scared," Mia said.
We frowned.
"What happened? Are you okay?" I asked.
"Miss Leinora, the librarian scared us," Vanessa said.
"How?" Matt asked.
"She asked us if we were willing to pay for the information we could get," Mia said.
"The payment was that we would be permanently imprisoned in HU," Vanessa added.
My throat went dry at what they said. I'm stuck in HU now. Since I found out the only secret HU keeps.
"The students we approached told us the same thing," said Dave.
"So all of you didn't get an answer?" I asked.
They all shook their heads.
My whole body went cold. Turns out I'm the only one who knows the secret of HU. If there is a way to get out of this place, I will be the only one left.
"What about you, Zein? Did you get an answer?" Matt asked.
I swallowed hard. I didn't want to worry them, so I shook my head quickly. They shouldn't know that I know something, and they shouldn't know the secret of HU because I don't want them to stay here.
I remembered what Nicky had said again. If I was really their target, who was Nicky referring to? Am I really going to die? I was stunned. I don't want to die yet! What did I ever do to them?
"I found out something, there is a way to get out of HU. The librarian told us," Mia said.
We looked at Mia seriously.
"What is it? Did she tell us the way?" Dave asked.
Mia and Vanessa shook their heads before smiling.
"We need to get into the ranks of HU," Vanessa said.
"Rank? You mean, rank in class? Like top achievers?" Jerome asked.
"Not just in the class but in the Top 10 rankings of HU. Our competition in grades is the entire school, and Raze Silvenia is currently leading," Mia said.
Raze Silvenia, the leader of DGW and the smartest in all of HU? I haven't seen him yet, but I already admire him. It's uncommon for people who like to fight to enjoy studying, either.
"This is the list of the smartest students in HU." Vanessa handed over a paper containing the complete list of the top 10, better known as the Highest 10.
Ace Craige, the student president, came in second. Nazzer Lumia was third, and Nicky was in the top 10.
Nicky was even in the Highest 10, I said to myself.
"Nazzer Lumia, I think he's the leader of the Black Blood Gang," Dave said.
Nazzer and Raze are the leaders of the opposing gangs. Right now, the two groups are quiet, but they remain dangerous.
"Guys, we're safe as long as we know nothing about HU. So the only thing we have to do is join the Highest 10," suggested Vanessa, which everyone agreed with.
I remained silent. It's sad to think that even if I make it to the Highest 10, I won't be able to get out.
I'll just stick to what I know. I don't want to be trapped here and make my friends suffer.

A few days passed, and everyone was busy preparing for the masquerade acquaintance party.
Why do we still need to wear masks? How can we recognize each other? Or are they planning something for us?
We are at the gymnasium, where the general meeting for the party, which will be held this Friday, which is only two days away, will be held.
"Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen," greeted Madam Violet, dressed in black as usual. She always seems to be mourning.
"Shit! That's his third warning," the person in front of us whispered while looking somewhere.
I followed his gaze. I saw Ace talking to a man. The man's fear and trembling knees were evident.
"That's his last warning. He might be taken to Dark Hell Jail," another person in front of me added.
I frowned. What kind of punishment awaits that man in Dark Hell Jail? Could he be killed? But how will he die?
"I know you already know that the acquaintance party is on Friday. It's a masquerade, so you must wear masks except for the red and black masks," said Madam Violet.
My forehead furrowed. What's up? Why can't can't we wear black and red masks?
"The black and red mask is only for gangs. Black for the Black Blood Gang and red for the Devil God Warrior."
The students could be heard whispering, but no one dared to protest. Opposing is useless because we are like puppets in this school.
"On Friday, killing is also prohibited. It's Free Bloody Night. Anyone who violates will be punished by death," Madam Violet warned sternly.
Surely, no one would disobey the headmistress, right?
"I'd like to call Mister Ace Craige here on the stage."
Ace quickly climbed onto the stage and took the microphone from Madam. "You won't see me at the party on Friday, but I'm watching you."
My heart beat faster when he looked at me. I was terrified.
"I'm watching you," he repeated firmly, staring at me.
I rolled my eyes on him. Do I look like a killer?

I'm WALKING alone in the hallway. My friends are busy studying hard. They are in the library to do advanced study. Don't they feel sorry for me that I might be left behind in HU? Well, they don't know that I know the history of this university.
"They are hiring a new secretary? What happened to Fritzy?"
I looked at the students gathered in front of the bulletin board. It looked like there were new updates about HU. I squeezed in until I reached the front.
"Wanted: Secretary for the student's president," I read. I also read the only requirement. "Must be brave enough to conquer death."
I wanted to laugh out loud. Are they serious? If that is the requirement, who would be crazy to apply to be Ace's secretary?
"C'mon! The application process is in the gym! Let's try it!"
"I'm brave, so I think I can do it."
The girls who were interested in applying to be Ace's secretary quickly left.
I shook my head. What did I expect? HU students really think differently.
"Leave!" a girl shouted from behind.
The students gathered in front of the bulletin board, parted like the Red Sea. A beautiful woman with white and blonde hair walked up to the bulletin board.
"It's Fritzy," one whispered.
I realized I was the only one blocking Fritzy's path.
"Get the hell out of my way," Fritzy said with a raised eyebrow.
"Should I?" I asked, annoyed.
She pulled her hair back, annoyed. "What do we have here?" Fritzy said contemptuously. "Oh, a noob." She laughed. "I'm Fritzy, Ace's secretary, Miss IDon'tCareWhoYouAre," she said with a smirk.
Her bitchy attitude is pissing me off. Since I'm about to die anyway, why not make the most of every moment of my time, fighting demons like the one in front of me.
"Can't you read? Or maybe you want me to read what's written here before you?" I pointed to the bulletin board.
"It's just a paper. I haven't given up my position yet," she said firmly.
I took the paper with a smile and crumpled it in front of her. Murmurs start to surround us. I don't like it when someone acts like they own the place when they don't.
"What are you doing?!" she asked when I forced her to hold the paper I had crumpled.
"Don't complain to me. They've fired you, Ms. Fritzy IDontCareAboutYourSurname, maybe you're not really qualified for the position."
Her eyes widened, and she pulled my hair. I didn't give in, so I pulled her hair too. Then we began to fight.
"Stop them!" said a student. Our schoolmates surrounded us, but no one tried to stop us.
Until someone pushed me away from Fritzy. I got out of balance, and my forehead hit a sharp object. It bled.
"You have no right to hurt Ace's secretary!" a guy shouted angrily.
Fritzy straightened herself up with a smile.
I tried to stand up properly, but I felt dizzy. Is he stupid!? When that demon Fritzy started the fight! UGH!
"I'm the vice president of the student council!" he shouted.
I didn't care if he was the vice president of the student council. All I wanted to do was punch him in the face.
"I don't care!" I retorted.
He clenched his fist and threatened to punch me.
"Go ahead, punch her, Mr. Onel Ty. You and the former secretary will merit your third offense."
The people around me seemed to stop and tense up. Even though my vision was blurry, I saw Ace behind Fritzy and Onel. He folded his arms while smiling.
"M-Mr. President," Onel stammered.
This piece of shit is a coward! I said to myself.
"Clear the area!" he commanded. "On the count of three, I want this area cleared! One…"
The students ran away. In an instant, only four of us were left there.
"A-Ace, this bitch must be punished-"
"Two…" Ace continued counting.
Fritzy winced. She looked at me evilly as if saying this would not be our last confrontation before turning around and leaving me with Ace.
I also met her gaze to convey that I was not afraid of her. Ace's dark gaze made me pale. He looked very angry with me. "Kill me now," I suggested.
"Not now, Ms. Shion. You need to heal first before facing your punishment."
When he picked me up, I couldn't do anything. I didn't resist. It was as if I suddenly lost my fear of him, and I felt something strange.
"You need to heal. You are qualified to be my secretary, bitch."
My mind went blank because of what he said, and I seemed to like the way he carried me. It was even more strange because it seemed like he was sauntering. This crazy guy is walking like a model!
I ignored the gossip around me. Why is it such a big deal to them that the President carried me? He is really responsible for me and that stupid vice president. If I ever meet that crazy vice president again, I'll break his face.
Ace took me to the clinic. Nurse Chas greeted us. She only looked like she was five years older than me.
"Treat her wound, Nurse Cha," Ace ordered.
Ace laid me down on the hospital bed and left immediately. What did I expect from him? Watch over me?
Nurse Cha cleaned my wound before applying first aid. "What happened? Did Supremo do this?" she asked.
"If he was the one who did this, I'd probably be dead now, but I'm still alive, right? So, that means it was done by a weak dog," I sarcastically replied.
She laughed softly. "You might get a scar on your forehead."
"Don't let that happen. I don't want to see any scar on her face."
I almost jumped in shock when I heard Ace say that. I looked where I heard his voice, and I saw Ace leaning against the clinic door. He was staring at me.
Did he hear what I said earlier? Well, it is true.
"Understood, Supremo," Nurse Cha replied.
I suddenly felt sleepy while Nurse Cha treated my wound. "Can I sleep?" I asked, yawning.
Nurse Cha laughed softly before nodding. It wasn't until later that I realized I had fallen asleep.

Vanessa's POV
We heard about what happened to Zein. So, we immediately went to the clinic.
"Why did the president do that?" Mia said worriedly while looking at Zein, who was snoring in her sleep as if nothing happened.
"Is he mad at Zein?" Jerome asked.
Matt was quiet and unresponsive. He was just sitting on the sofa in the clinic next to Jerome.
According to what we heard, the President hit Zein. Then, he also brought Zein to the clinic.
Soon, Zein woke up. "I'm so hungry. Do you have food?" Zein asked.
The clinic door opened, and Dave entered. He was sweating and looked tired because he had just come from the cafeteria to buy food.
"Ah! Perfect timing, Dave," Zein said, holding out both hands to ask for food.
Dave handed the food over with a frown.
I grimaced as I watched Zein's mouthfuls of food one after another. She seemed to ignore the bandage on her head as she ate like she hadn't eaten in a month. This girl is truly different.
"I got hungry there, ah," Dave said after Zein had finished most of what he had bought.
"How are you?" Matt asked worriedly.
"I am fine, thank you," Zein jokingly replied before laughing.
"GHAD, Zein! What the hell did you do?!" I interrupted.
Zein is a troublemaker because she's so brave. She tries to fight even animals, such as cats.
"I wasn't the one who started the trouble. That insane VP of the school council," Zein replied, annoyed.
I frowned. "VP? As in vice president? We thought President Ace did this?"
"Huh?" Zein asked confusedly.
"It's all over the campus that the President hit you," added Mia.
"That's not true! He was the one who helped me and brought me here. Fritzy and Onel did this to me. UGH!"

THE NEXT day, Zein was in the class with us as if nothing had happened to her.
Our teacher was teaching when a man suddenly entered the classroom.
"It's Vice President Onel," one of our classmates whispered.
My eyes narrowed. Zein was about to stand up when I stopped her.
"Where's Zein Shion?" Onel asked while looking around the classroom. He stopped when he saw Zein.
He walked towards Zein. Matt and Jerome quickly stood up, but Dave remained seated.
"What?! Do you want a fight?!" Zein shouted.
We were surprised when he knelt before us.
"I'm sorry. Please forgive me. It was an impulse."
Zein was also stunned by what he did. The entire class was also shocked.
"Miss Shion, please forgive me. I don't want to die," he said, begging.
I looked at Zein, who was seriously looking at Onel. What's up with her? Why and how did she make the vice president of the school council kneel?
"Alright. Then, don't let me see your face ever again."
He hurriedly left as if he was afraid of Zein.
"Who is she?" one of our classmates asked.
"Why did the VP kneel to her?" another asked.
Why exactly though?
