Chapter 37: 28 Bast's adventures
The impact created a massive crater, sending shockwaves through the area, but it wasn't destructive enough to harm Earth's balance. As the dust settled, the Vibranium began to sink into the crust, its energy melding seamlessly with the land.
I obviously used several spells to prevent it from being stolen by some god, alien, or demon, and a few spells to negate the harmful radiation emitted by the asteroid.
"Well," I said, hovering above the smoldering crater, "that should do it. Enjoy your upgrade, Earth."
Of course, I took a fair share of my Vibranium for myself; I had a good amount of it lying in my treasury, but it was nothing compared to this asteroid, and creating Vibranium out of nowhere was still far from my reach, but someday it will change.
(Bast's POV)
The sacred mission, bestowed upon me by none other than the great Lord Ender, was simple: keep an eye on young Lord Atum. That boy had been fluttering around Amaunet, a naive little Ogdoad goddess. Honestly, it was amusing to watch her fawn over him, completely unaware of his true origins. But, my mission wasn't to enjoy the show—it was to ensure nothing malicious threatened him.
I was the great Bast, goddess of cats, guardian extraordinaire. Nothing could distract me from my duty—
"Oh, what a cute kitty!
What in the divine realms—?! Before I could react, two pairs of tiny hands scooped me up, and I was suddenly cradled like a mere house cat.
"Her fur is so soft!"
What is happening? Who dares? My divine strength could have easily freed me, but then... it hit me.
The fingers of these mortal girls began to scratch behind my ears and under my chin in just the right way. A sensation, faintly familiar yet wholly unexpected, rippled through me. It was almost like… like when Lord Ender blesses me—er, pets me.
Not quite as divine, of course. But enough to make my tail twitch in reluctant approval.
"Look! She likes it!" one of the girls chirped, her wide eyes sparkling with joy.
Like it? I glared up at her, though my traitorous body betrayed me by purring loudly. My tail betrayed me further, curling in satisfaction.
"Oh! She's purring! How cute!"
The other girl began stroking my back in long, deliberate motions, and I found myself flopping onto my side. I, Bast, guardian of realms, was now reduced to a belly-rubbing spectacle.
This… this indignity! But also… don't stop.
I let out a half-hearted growl, a token reminder that I was not just any cat, but a mighty goddess. But the girls just giggled and continued their relentless adoration.
"What if we keep her?" one of them asked, cradling me as if I were the most precious treasure in existence.
Keep me? I huffed, indignation bubbling up within me. I am Bast, not some barn cat to be "kept." I serve no one but Lord Ender—
"Oh, her fur is so soft!"
My thoughts dissolved into nothingness as one of the girls rubbed my belly while the other braided a tiny strand of fur near my tail.
This feeling was nowhere near as divine as Lord Ender's blessings, of course, but it was... pleasant. Almost comforting. And for mortals, their petting skills weren't entirely bad.
Meowrrr… They may live.
I would allow this momentary lapse in judgment. And perhaps, since they were so enthralled with me, I could justify keeping an eye on them. They were amusing, and I couldn't ignore the faint tug of warmth in their simple, innocent affection.
Yes, that's it. This wasn't a weakness on my part. I was merely extending my divine protection to these two mortal girls. Lord Ender would understand. Right?
(General POV)
The two little girls carried Bast, still nestled in their arms, back to their tribe. The group was small, a primitive settlement, but they were advanced for early humans; bone/stone tools and animal skins were a common sight there. As they approached, the ground began to rumble beneath their feet, a tremor that sent loose stones skittering and huts swaying.
The people of the tribe froze, their faces etched with terror. The sky darkened as a massive shadow loomed overhead, blotting out the sun.
"The gods are angry!" someone cried, dropping to their knees.
Others quickly followed, bowing their heads and chanting fervent prayers, their voices a mixture of fear and desperation.
But Bast, still perched lazily in the arms of the girls, tilted her head and let out an annoyed sigh. "Foolish mortals. This isn't anger—it's Lord Ender."
Her sharp eyes caught sight of her master far above the earth, as he carefully lowered a massive asteroid to the ground. It was easily the size of a mountain, its surface shimmering faintly with an otherworldly glow.
She nodded in approval. "Lord is so generous, he felt bad for these mortals using such primitive tools and decided to give his divine metal to them."
The humans, however, were convinced that doom was upon them. Some cried out, "The gods have sent their wrath upon us!" while others whispered, "We must appease them or perish!"
Bast sighed, leaping gracefully from the girls' arms and landing softly on the ground. "Honestly, I can't leave Lord alone for five minutes without causing a scene, he needs my assistance, nya."
In a swirl of shimmering golden light and a dramatic show that was definitely not needed, she transformed into her humanoid form, a tall, regal figure with feline features, her skin adorned with golden markings that seemed to pulse with divine energy. Her glowing eyes silenced the panicked crowd as she raised a hand for quiet.
"Mortals," she began, her voice carrying an air of authority, "cease your senseless wailing. What you witness is not the wrath of the gods but a gift from Lord Herobrine,"
The people gasped, their fear giving way to awe, as Bast's presence unknowingly brought a sense of calmness and safety, which was an effect of Bast's magic.
"A gift?" one of the elders dared to ask, his voice trembling.
Bast nodded, her tail swishing behind her. "Indeed. The mountain that now stands near your home is imbued with divine energy and resources; it is a gift from Lord Herobrine to you mortals. Use it wisely; otherwise, it will lead to your doom."
The tribe erupted in cheers, their chants quickly shifting from fear to gratitude.
"All praise to Lord Herobrine!"
They fell to their knees, this time in reverence, bowing to Bast as well.
Bast, for her part, preened under the adoration, enjoying the newfound worship. "Yes, yes, your devotion pleases us," she said, waving a hand magnanimously.
The elder stepped forward again, bowing low. "Cat Goddess, what shall we do with this divine gift?"
Bast smirked. "Send your bravest to investigate the mountain and let them bring what they find. But remember: it is sacred. Show it respect, and it shall provide for you."
The people nodded fervently, quickly organizing a group to approach the Vibranium-laden asteroid.
As Bast watched the humans scurry, a satisfied purr rumbled in her chest. "Not bad, Bast. Not bad at all," she murmured, her ego swelling slightly.
She turned to the two twin girls who had "rescued" her earlier, smirking as she prepared to bask in their inevitable awe and reverence. Surely, they would be struck speechless by her divine beauty and feline grace.
Instead, the girls' eyes sparkled, not with fear or admiration, but with uncontainable excitement.
"Wow!" one of them gasped, clapping her hands. "You can even become like us, but with a tail and ears like a cat!"
"How did you do it? Can we do it too?" the other chimed in, grabbing Bast's hand eagerly. "You are so pretty! And your tail is so fluffy!"
Bast blinked, caught entirely off guard. "W-What?" she stammered, her composure slipping.
The first girl reached out and held Bast's tail. "And your ears move! Look, sister, they twitch when I touch the tail!"
"Meowaahnn!"
"Do you think we could grow tails and ears if we tried hard enough?" the second asked, her face serious with childlike determination.
"Maybe if we prayed really hard?"
Bast's smile faltered into a look of pure confusion as the two girls began to brainstorm, completely ignoring the fact that they were speaking to a literal 'goddess'.
(She isn't, yet )
"Or maybe we just need to eat a lot of fish?"
"That's it! Cats like fish, so if we eat enough, we'll turn into cat people like her!"
"Exactly! And then we can have fluffy tails and shiny ears too!"
Bast's tail twitched in irritation, though it betrayed her amusement. *Enough!" she said, her voice carrying just enough authority to silence their chatter.
The twins looked up at her with wide, innocent eyes, as if waiting for her divine verdict.
"You cannot simply become like me," Bast said, trying to maintain her dignity. "I am Bast, Goddess of Cats, chosen by the great Herobrine himself." (To babysit young lord Atum)
The girls exchanged a glance, then grinned.
"So you are like… a mother cat for all cats? Like God is a father?"
"A mama cat!" the second girl exclaimed, clapping her hands together.
"Can you be our mama too?"
Bast froze, her golden eyes widening. "W-What?"
"You are so pretty and soft, and you saved our tribe!" the first girl said, tugging on her hand. "Please, Mama Bast, teach us how to be like you!"
"If you became our mama we can be like you?"
"I—" Bast began, but she was quickly cut off as both girls flung their arms around her waist in a surprisingly strong hug.
"Thank you, Mama Bast!" they said in unison, their voices filled with pure adoration.
Bast sighed, in mild exasperation. "Mortals…" she muttered under her breath. But as the girls looked up at her with their beaming smiles, she couldn't help the small, fond smile that curled her lips, as her tail wrapped around the girls.
"Fine," she said with a dramatic sigh. "But if you want to be like me, you will have to work hard and listen carefully to my teachings."
"Yay!" the girls cheered, hopping excitedly.
As the tribe continued to praise Herobrine and prepare to investigate the Vibranium asteroid, Bast found herself with two new devoted followers and an unexpected role as a mother figure.
"And to think I was just here to babysit Atum," she muttered, shaking her head. But the warmth in her heart betrayed her amusement, and a small, pleased purr escaped her once again.
