Chapter 122: Dominance Act Nine - Wages
A string in his mind suddenly snapped, and Glenn felt like his heart had completely stopped. His trembling voice softly called out, "M… Mom?"
Only static came from his phone. There were no responses. Glenn collapsed to the ground, the phone pressed tightly against his ear. He didn't dare hang up, afraid that if he did, his parents would leave him.
After a long time, the sounds of an ambulance came from his phone. The paramedics had arrived at the scene.
"They're still breathing! Quickly!" From the chaotic noises, Glenn immediately caught the key information. He yelled out loudly, trying to contact them.
The paramedics were busy with the emergency rescue, and hadn't noticed his calls. Only after Glenn's voice had become hoarse did someone pick up the phone.
"The call is still connected. Can the person on the other end hear me?"
Glenn, whose face was already covered in tears and snot, felt like he had grabbed onto a lifeline. He immediately responded, "What's the situation there? How are their injuries?"
"They're both severely injured, and we're currently preparing to send them to the hospital for emergency treatment. We can't take anything from the scene of the accident. If you're their family member, then please come to Morakot Central Hospital."
The voice quickly disappeared. Glenn's mind gradually cleared, and he immediately booked a flight ticket home. He stood up from the ground, ignoring the strange gazes from the people around him, and limped towards his rented apartment.
He hung up the phone and put it in his pocket. In the next second, the phone began to ring again. He had originally thought that it was a call from the hospital, but after answering it, he discovered it was his supervisor.
"Glenn! Where are you?! I've called you so many times, and your line was always busy! There's a critical bug here! Quickly come back and fix it!"
Feeling both anxious and angry, Glenn didn't even think, and immediately retorted, "Fix what bug?! Something happened to my family! I'm going to take a flight back home right now! Also, I need to take a leave of absence for the next few days. Approve it."
The supervisor's expression turned ugly after being yelled at. He glanced at the employees who were working overtime in the office, feeling annoyed.
"A leave of absence?! During the critical stage of the project?! You can forget about it!" He had thought that Glenn was just making up an excuse to slack off. Leaving "early" like this today, he had clearly planned it. He had always given Glenn all of the tedious and difficult work. The young man would always obediently do it. He had originally thought Glenn was an obedient tool, but now he had different thoughts.
This kind of rebellious behaviour had to be nipped in the bud. What would happen if no one worked overtime?
More importantly, the bonus after this project was completed wasn't small. It was equivalent to several months of his wages, which was why he absolutely wouldn't allow Glenn to take a leave of absence.
However, Glenn didn't even care about what he had to say, and directly hung up. He grabbed his identification documents and immediately headed to the airport.
The flight would still take several hours. Glenn was restlessly sitting at the airport. Not getting any sleep, combined with his fluctuating emotions, made him feel a little dazed.
Vaguely, it was as if he could hear the sound of puppets colliding. The not-so-crowded airport became blurred. The people who were walking back and forth seemed to have turned into wooden puppets.
Countless threads were wrapped around them. It was as if the puppets had noticed Glenn's gaze, and they all turned their heads to look at him.
An indescribable panic overwhelmed Glenn. He felt like he was also covered in these threads, becoming tighter and tighter, making it hard for him to breathe.
One of the puppets walked up to him, and handed him a transparent string. Glenn subconsciously grabbed the puppet string. However, when he carefully examined what was in his hand, there wasn't anything there.
"Sir?" Just as Glenn was in a daze, the puppet had turned into an airport staff member. He softly called out to wake Glenn up. "Sir, you've been sleeping for four hours now. You should confirm your flight information. Otherwise, if you miss your boarding time, then it would be a problem."
"Four hours?!" Glenn was instantly startled awake, and quickly looked at his flight ticket. Fortunately, he hadn't missed his flight. Coincidentally, the boarding gate had also begun their inspection. It was his flight. Glenn quickly thanked him, before running to the boarding gate.
The staff member who was left behind scratched his head, and softly muttered, "Even if today's youths are all about expressing their individuality, there's no need to get such a large tattoo on your chest. Doesn't it hurt?"
After a long and arduous journey, Glenn had finally returned to his hometown hospital. His parents were still in the operating room.
Fortunately, after several hours of emergency treatment, his parents had finally been pulled back from the brink of death.
"Are you their family? Neither of them are doing too well. Although we were able to save their lives, it's unlikely that they'll wake up."
"What do you mean?"
"They're in a vegetative state. They will require a long period of hospitalization." The doctor looked at the exhausted Glenn, and hesitated a little. But there were some things that had to be clearly explained.
"The cost of care is extremely expensive, and you'll need to pay the emergency surgery fees for now. There's usually insurance for these kinds of car accidents, but confirming responsibility will take a while."
"Don't worry, Doctor. I'll pay, no matter how much it costs. I have to save them."
Although he had said that, the exorbitant medical fees had instantly drained the savings Glenn had been preparing for his marriage. And, unfortunately, that still wasn't enough.
It had been a long time since Glenn had received any pay from his company. It was basically all paid out after the projects were completed, and he had been saving those wages. They had been delaying his payments, saying that it would be given out after this project had ended.
Although this project hadn't been completed yet, with the wages he had saved, it should have been enough for now.
However, as soon as he had called his boss and had barely said two words, the call was hung up. It was already late at night. His boss didn't need to work overtime.
Fortunately, there were loans. Glenn didn't hesitate, and immediately took out a loan to cover the medical expenses.
It was already midnight again. Glenn sat alone by his parents' bedsides, biting down on his lips. He didn't dare to cry out loud, not wanting to disturb their rest.
Early next morning, Glenn immediately called his supervisor, only to receive a notice that he had been fired. The reason was absurd. It was because he hadn't worked overtime last night.
This made Glenn feel disgusted. He had already worked at that company for several years. Half of the company was essentially being supported by his efforts. And yet, he was now fired because of such an absurd reason.
He took a deep breath, feeling a little relieved. "Fine, I'll leave. Just remember to send me my wages."
"Wages? What wages? You made our project fail, and you still want your wages?"
"According to the labor contract law, all remaining funds must be paid when an employee leaves." Although he knew that his boss didn't understand the law, Glenn didn't have the time to deal with him. He had to get his money.
However, after murmuring to someone on the other end of the call, his boss's tone had changed. "No, we're not firing you. We're giving you some time off. A year, how about that?"
"Don't worry, we'll still be giving you minimum wage, 1400 yuan a month."
"Screw you! I'm asking about the wages that I had earned previously!"
"No problem, it's just over 5,000 yuan. We'll put it in your account in a little bit. As for your bonus… because you caused a loss to the company, we have the right to reduce your…"
He could no longer hear the rest of the words. Glenn's mind exploded. The intense feeling of hatred made his eyes turn red.
「Welcome to the Dominance Theater!」
