Hestia in Bleach! The Goddess & Soul Reaper

Chapter 74: 74. Unveiling the Marks

The silence of the Dungeon lingered as the Familia moved back into a narrower corridor. The unsettling whispers had stopped, but the air felt heavier, charged with an energy that refused to dissipate. Hestia couldn't shake the memory of the corrupted runes and the shadowy creature's chilling words: "This world will unravel, and you will be the first to fall."

As they pressed forward, Hestia glanced at Ichigo, who walked ahead of her with his usual calm focus. His presence was a steady anchor in the chaos that threatened to overwhelm her thoughts. She quickened her pace until she was beside him.

"Thank you for what you did back there," she said softly, her voice meant only for him. "You didn't hesitate."

Ichigo turned his head slightly, his amber eyes meeting hers. "It's my job to protect you. All of you. That's what Familia is about, right?"

Hestia smiled, warmth spreading through her chest despite the tension in the air. "It's more than that. You don't just protect us—you inspire us."

Before Ichigo could respond, Uryū's voice broke through their quiet conversation. "Hestia, these symbols on the walls… they look similar to the runes on that pedestal."

Hestia stopped, her gaze following Uryū's pointed finger to a series of faint carvings etched into the stone walls. The symbols were partially eroded, their shapes distorted, but there was no mistaking their divine origin. They carried the same corrupted energy as the ones they'd seen before, though these were older, more fragmented.

"These markings predate the Dungeon," Hestia said, her voice tinged with unease. "They're part of something much older—something buried here long before Orario was built."

Rukia stepped closer, her brows furrowed as she examined the carvings. "If they're that old, why are they still glowing? Shouldn't they have faded long ago?"

"They're being reactivated," Hestia explained. "That creature… whatever it was, it's using these runes to spread its influence. It's not just corrupting the Dungeon—it's trying to rewrite it."

Chad frowned, his voice low but steady. "So, this isn't just about the Dungeon anymore. It's about the world above too."

"That's exactly what it's about," Hestia said grimly. "If the Dungeon falls under its control, Orario won't stand a chance. The balance between gods and mortals will collapse."

Ichigo's grip tightened on his Zanpakuto, his gaze hardening. "Then we stop it before it gets that far."

"Agreed," Uryū said, adjusting his glasses. "But to stop it, we need to understand it. These runes might hold the key to unraveling what's happening here."

Hestia nodded, her mind already racing with possibilities. "We'll need help. Deciphering these runes isn't something we can do alone."

They emerged from the Dungeon hours later, the warm light of Orario's streets a stark contrast to the cold, oppressive atmosphere they had left behind. The city bustled with life as adventurers returned from their own expeditions, their voices filling the air with stories of battles and discoveries.

Hestia led the group toward the Guild, her pace brisk as her thoughts remained fixed on the runes. She needed answers, and she knew exactly where to find them.

The Guild was quieter than usual when they arrived, the afternoon sun casting long shadows across the marble floor. Eina, their usual Guild advisor, greeted them with her characteristic professionalism, though her brow furrowed slightly as she took in their expressions.

"Back from the Dungeon already?" Eina asked, her tone curious but concerned. "You don't look like you're finished."

"We're not," Hestia said, her voice clipped. "We need access to the Guild's archives."

Eina blinked, momentarily taken aback by the urgency in Hestia's tone. "The archives? What are you looking for?"

"Information on ancient divine runes," Hestia replied. "Anything that predates the Dungeon's formation."

Eina's expression turned serious. "That's… a very specific request. Most of the archives are restricted to Guild officials and approved researchers."

Ichigo stepped forward, his presence commanding. "It's important. If we don't get answers, the Dungeon isn't the only thing at risk."

Eina hesitated, clearly torn between protocol and the gravity of Ichigo's words. Finally, she nodded, her professionalism giving way to genuine concern. "Follow me. I'll take you to someone who can help."

The Guild's archives were deep beneath the main building, hidden away in a labyrinth of stone corridors and secured behind heavy iron doors. Eina led them to an older man with a long beard and sharp eyes, who introduced himself as Vellin, the Guild's senior archivist.

"Divine runes, you say?" Vellin asked, his voice gruff but curious. "Not a common subject for adventurers to investigate. What's the reason for your interest?"

Hestia stepped forward, her expression resolute. "We encountered something in the Dungeon—a corrupted energy tied to these runes. It's trying to reshape the Dungeon, and if we don't stop it, it could destroy more than just Orario."

Vellin's eyes widened slightly, but he nodded, his expression grave. "Follow me. I may have something that can help."

He led them to a secluded section of the archives, where rows of dusty tomes and scrolls lined the shelves. Pulling a thick book from the highest shelf, he opened it to a page filled with intricate diagrams and symbols.

"These are ancient runes," Vellin explained, his finger tracing the shapes on the page. "They were used by gods in the earliest days of creation, long before the Dungeon existed. But these… these are corrupted, twisted versions of the originals. Whoever is using them isn't a god—they're an imitator, a pretender."

Hestia's heart sank as she studied the diagrams. "What kind of power would it take to corrupt something this ancient?"

"More than any mortal could muster," Vellin said. "But less than a true god. This is the work of something in between—something that was once divine but has been broken, fragmented."

Ichigo's voice was calm but firm. "How do we stop it?"

Vellin hesitated, his gaze flickering to Hestia. "To fight this, you'll need more than strength. You'll need to understand the runes, to find the original symbols they were based on. Only then can you unravel the corruption."

Hestia nodded, her resolve hardening. "Then that's what we'll do."
