Chapter 35: Chapter 35: Talking
After dropping Asia at the church, Alastor made his way back to the ORC building, feeling the weight of the day settling on him. It had been a strange day so far, especially with the arrival of Asia and his knowing where she was heading. Still, there was no need to get involved any more than necessary—for now.
As he approached the front door of the ORC building, he noticed Sona, and Rias standing outside, engaged in a lively conversation.
It seems Akeno has already left after the morning practice.
The sound of their laughter floated through the evening air, and Alastor couldn't help but smile at the sight. It wasn't often that he saw them so relaxed, especially after everything that had been happening lately.
When Sona noticed him approaching, her laughter subsided, replaced by a curious look. She raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms as he drew closer. "Where did you go?" she asked, her voice casual but tinged with curiosity.
Alastor shrugged with a relaxed smile. "I was just helping someone find their way to the church. Nothing too exciting."
Rias tilted her head slightly, clearly intrigued. "The church? That's not really your usual hangout spot, is it?" she teased, her tone light.
"Yeah, not exactly my kind of place," Alastor admitted with a chuckle, scratching the back of his head. "But there was a new girl in town, and she looked pretty lost. Thought I'd help her out."
Sona's expression shifted subtly, her gaze hardening just a bit. "A girl?" she asked, her tone a mix of curiosity and something else.
Alastor noticed the slight tension in her voice, but before Sona or anyone else could dwell on it, he dropped a bombshell. "Yeah. And by the way, Sona, I've decided who my next Bishop is going to be."
The reaction was immediate. Sona's eyes widened in surprise, and both Rias and Akeno looked equally stunned. Alastor had gained quite the reputation in the underworld for being one of the few high-class devils who hadn't taken a Peerage despite countless offers. Noble families had been vying to offer him their daughters, but he had turned down every single one.
"You've decided… on your Bishop?" Sona repeated, as if she needed to hear the words again to believe them. "You? The Alastor who's turned down every offer from the finest noble families in the Underworld?"
Alastor smirked at her reaction. "Yeah, shocking, isn't it?" he said, his tone casual but with a hint of playfulness. "I've finally found someone worthy of the position."
Rias leaned forward, her eyes narrowing slightly. "Wait, are you serious, Alastor? You, of all people, choosing a Bishop? Who is it?"
Alastor gave a slight nod, "Her name is Asia Argento," he said. "I met her today when I was helping her find the church. She has a Sacred Gear, the Twilight Healing. I think she'd make a perfect fit for my Bishop."
Akeno's eyes sparkled with interest. "Twilight Healing? That's an extremely rare Sacred Gear, one that can heal any injury, even for devils. Alastor, that's a pretty valuable piece for your peerage."
Rias, on the other hand, seemed a bit more cautious. "Wait, hold on. You just met her today, and you've already decided to make her your Bishop? Are you sure about this? What do you even know about her?"
Alastor shrugged. "I know enough. She's kind, innocent, and more importantly, she doesn't belong in the hands of those Fallen Angels. They'll try to use her power for something terrible. If I take her in as my Bishop, I can protect her."
Sona, still trying to process what she was hearing, crossed her arms again. "You're really serious about this, aren't you?" Her tone was softer now, less surprised and more thoughtful. "It's just… you've always been so selective, Alastor. This feels sudden."
"I know it seems that way," Alastor admitted. "But when you meet someone like Asia, you just know. She's not like the others who've been offered to me. I can feel it. She's… different."
There was a brief silence as the three girls processed his words, their expressions a mixture of curiosity and understanding. Finally, Rias broke the silence, her lips curling into a knowing smile.
"Well, if anyone can recognize potential, it's you," Rias said with a chuckle. "I'm interested to see how this all plays out."
Sona, more pragmatic in her approach, glanced at him with raised brows. "Did you tell Kuroka—your Bishop—about it?"
"Kuroka?" Rias asked, her brow furrowing. "Where have I heard that name before?"
Sona looked toward Rias, her expression serious but composed. "She's Koneko's big sister."
Rias's eyes widened slightly. "Wait, Kuroka as in that Kuroka? The one that killed her master. The one Koneko hates the most."
"Well kinda. But most of thing you hear is wrong. But anyway. I haven't told her yet."
