Chapter 23: The Battle Against Absalom (Part 4/4)
[GAIA'S POV]
"N-No... Arthur..."
The metallic ground of the inner world felt colder than ever as I collapsed to my knees, the artificial city bustling around me, oblivious to my grief.
My hands trembled as they pressed into the ground, my tears falling freely, pooling beneath me.
The connection that tied me to Arthur was gone.
Snuffed out like a candle in the wind.
"W-Why... Why him...?"
I clutched at my chest, trying to steady the ache that throbbed deep within.
I couldn't stop the silent sobs that wracked my body, couldn't ignore the sharp, hollow pain that echoed in my core.
Arthur was gone.
Arthur, my student, my partner... my friend.
We'd only been together for a few months, but somehow, he had become so much more than just another human.
I'd watched him grow, seeing the fire in his eyes as he trained under my guidance.
He wasn't just determined, he was relentless, stubborn, and maddeningly overconfident at times.
But he was also kind.
I sniffled, hugging myself as the memories played in my mind.
His reactions to my teasing, always a mix of embarrassment and exasperation, had become the highlight of my days.
He had a way of bringing life to this lonely, artificial world I inhabited.
For the first time in forever, I felt like someone truly saw me.
Not as the Primordial Goddess or the Earth Mother, not as an untouchable being of ancient power.
But as Gaia... just Gaia.
And now, he was gone.
"I-I'm so sorry, Arthur..."
I whispered through my tears, my voice trembling.
"I should have done better... I should have protected you..."
I pressed my forehead against the cold ground, the weight of my failure crushing me.
He had promised to come back, but I hadn't been strong enough to ensure he could.
I wept for the boy who had given me hope and for the void he left behind.
Then, something unexpected happened.
A warm, gentle hand rested on the top of my head, brushing against my long blue hair.
The warmth was unmistakable, a sensation I hadn't felt in what felt like an eternity.
I froze, my breath catching in my throat.
Slowly, hesitantly, I lifted my tear-streaked face.
My heart stopped.
There he was, standing before me.
His bangs obscured his eyes, but I could feel his presence, the warmth, the unwavering strength I had come to know so well.
I blinked, not trusting what I was seeing.
"Arthur...? Is it... really you?"
He didn't say anything at first, just crouched down and placed a hand against my cheek.
His palm was warm and steady, a stark contrast to my trembling body.
With his thumb, he gently wiped away the tears that still lingered on my face.
"Please don't cry, Gaia."
He said softly, his voice soothing.
"You look more beautiful when you do that smile of yours."
His words were simple, but they struck something deep within me.
Despite the tears that continued to fall, I found myself smiling, a small, genuine curve of my lips.
I leaned into his touch, feeling a flicker of comfort in the storm of my emotions.
"I... you're becoming quite the tease youself... If I were a normal human woman, I would've started falling for you."
I murmured, the words spilling out before I could think.
My heart skipped a beat.
What was that feeling?
This strange, warm fuzziness that spread through me as I looked at him?
I didn't understand it, and I didn't have time to dwell on it before he smiled, a calm but determined smile, and pulled his hand away.
"How?"
I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
"I-I thought... I thought you were dead."
He didn't answer right away, but when he looked at me, both his eyes glowed a bright, intense blue, radiating power I'd never seen before.
He tilted his head, a playful smirk tugging at his lips.
"Simple, I had my shonen power-up moment."
He said, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
I blinked, speechless, as he turned away, standing tall with a newfound energy surrounding him.
A faint Holy aura began to form around his body, pulsating with purpose and determination.
"Where are you going?"
I called out, still kneeling.
He paused, glancing over his shoulder.
His grin widened as he said.
"I'm gonna kick some Nephalem ass."
And then, in a flash of light, he was gone.
For a moment, I just sat there, staring at the spot where he had stood.
My hand drifted to my chest, pressing against my heart as it raced in my chest.
Relief washed over me like a tidal wave, overwhelming and exhilarating.
He was alive.
But... that feeling.
That strange warmth that lingered in his absence.
I shook my head, pushing the thought aside.
There was no time to dwell on such things.
Arthur was fighting for his life, for all of us.
My focus needed to be on helping him, on ensuring his victory.
And yet, as I stood and prepared to rejoin the battle, I couldn't ignore the faint, lingering flutter in my chest.
'That feeling... it was nice...'
[THIRD PERSON POV]
Back at the battlefield, it was eerily silent, save for the faint crackling of dissipating energy and the unsettling hum of the blood lance still impaled in Arthur's lifeless chest.
Absalom stood over the fallen warrior, his crimson eyes narrowed as he contemplated the peculiar resilience of this human.
His curiosity piqued, he reached out toward Arthur's body.
"What secrets does your body hold, human?"
He muttered, his clawed hand hovering inches from Arthur's face.
Before he could make contact, a sudden vibrating sound resonated from afar.
The Excalibur Destruction, lying abandoned far away, trembled before it shot through the air like a spinning missile aimed straight for Absalom.
Reacting swiftly, Absalom dodged to the side, narrowly avoiding the holy blade.
He turned towards the direction where ethe sword is heading, but froze in genuine shock when he saw Arthur's right hand twitch.
Arthur's hand shot up, catching the spinning blade midair with perfect precision.
His body shifted, and with a sudden gasp, his eyes snapped open.
Gone was the dull exhaustion that once lingered in his gaze, now both his eyes glowed with vibrant, unyielding blue light.
A shockwave of raw energy burst from Arthur's body, a mix of holy and arcane power that tore through the battlefield.
The force flung Absalom and his remaining army back like leaves in a storm.
Absalom crashed into a car, the impact crumpling the vehicle beneath him.
*Groan*
Groaning, the Blood God rose to his feet, brushing off debris as he glared ahead.
His crimson aura flickered in agitation as he took in the sight before him.
Arthur stood tall, fully healed, his body emanating a dense, radiant white and blue aura.
His silhouette seemed otherworldly, a beacon of defiance in the night.
The Excalibur Destruction was planted firmly in the ground before him, its holy glow complementing his overwhelming presence.
"What the... How are you still alive after all of that?"
Absalom demanded, his voice laced with both anger and disbelief.
Arthur tilted his head slightly, the corner of his mouth quirking into a smirk.
His response was simple, dripping with defiance.
"Fuck you, that's how."
Absalom's expression darkened, his patience fraying.
Hundreds of blood lances materialized around him, hovering menacingly as he called forth more of his vampire army and blood hydras.
"It doesn't matter how many times you return from death...!"
Absalom snarled, charging forward with his forces.
"You cannot stop the inevita-!"
"Shut up."
Arthur interrupted coldly.
With a single swing of his sword, Arthur unleashed a devastating beam of holy energy.
The horizontal blast swept across the battlefield, obliterating everything in its path.
Absalom barely managed to shield himself with a blood barrier, but his army wasn't as fortunate.
The vampires and blood hydras were disintegrated into nothingness, leaving him momentarily alone.
"This time, I'll make you watch as I feast on your beating heart!"
Furious but undeterred, Absalom summoned more reinforcements, vampires, blood bats, and other twisted creations of chaos.
"Now, how do you plan on stopping this, human!"
"..."
*Inhale and Exhale*
Arthur remained calm, lowering his blade to rest his right arm on the guard.
"Two words, Absalom..."
He then spoke softly, his next words causing the alarm bells in Absalom's mind to ring.
"... Balance Breaker."
The air around them froze, and in an instant, the entire city center of Bucharest was engulfed in a vibrant blue barrier.
The real world vanished, replaced by an entirely new environment.
Absalom's eyes widened in disbelief as he took in his surroundings.
The cityscape was now a stunning, futuristic metropolis.
Skyscrapers of glowing blue and silver pierced the heavens, hovering vehicles zipped through the air, and a clear, starry sky loomed above.
The streets were lined with automated turrets, railguns, and patrolling Sentinel robots, towering, humanoid machines bristling with weapons.
Arthur's signature summons, Gaster Blasters, Terminators, and Yautjas, were stationed throughout the city, fully armed and ready for battle.
"What... in the world is this?"
Absalom demanded, his voice tinged with frustration.
Arthur sat nonchalantly atop a floating Gaster Blaster, the Excalibur Destruction resting on his shoulder.
He smirked, his confidence unwavering.
"Oh, this...?"
He began, gesturing around.
"This is my Innovate Clear's Balance Breaker - Grand Innovation. It lets me bring my inner world into reality by isolating a separate space using my barriers. In here, I'm essentially God. I can alter the environment, create powerful summons, and rewrite the rules of the battlefield. Originally, I could only imitate objects and entities, but in my Balance Breaker..."
With a flick of his wrist, a thousand Sentinels materialized, lining the streets and rooftops.
"... I can now create a hodgepodge of whatever the fuck I want."
The Sentinels fired in unison, beams of plasma erupting from their mouths, vaporizing Absalom's newly summoned army in seconds.
The sky lit up as automated turrets locked onto targets, firing devastating rounds that reduced enemies to ash.
Arthur spread his arms, his aura growing brighter.
"Nephalems and Vampires! I, Arthur of Grey Haven, welcome you all to the Land of Steel! The most technologically advanced and heavily armed planet in this pocket universe! But you can also call it by its other name... Your graves!"
Absalom clenched his fists, his blood red aura flaring.
"You...You think this newfounded power of yours changes anything? I'll crush you like the insect that you are!"
Arthur smirked, summoning a sleek, futuristic crossbow-railgun-revolver hybrid in his left hand.
Peering through its scope, he locked onto Absalom.
"Oh really? Well, I would like to see you try."
He said, his voice dripping with challenge.
"So, ready for round two?"
The battle resumed with an explosion of light as Arthur unleashed a devastating beam from his futuristic weaponry named Starfall, followed by a powerful blast from the Gaster Blaster.
The combined attack struck Absalom squarely, resulting in a cataclysmic eruption that shook the entire Land of Steel.
Absalom emerged from the explosion battered and furious, only to face relentless assaults from the Sentinel Army and Security Turrets.
But Absalom once again proved to be a powerful opponent as he kept tearing the Sentinels into scrap metal with his unholy abilities.
Unfortunately for him, each Sentinel he destroyed was immediately replaced by more, the machines evolving and adapting to his strategies.
His dwindling vampire forces struggled against the ceaseless barrage of plasma beams, railgun blasts, and mechanized firearms.
Arthur, observing from his vantage point, took a moment to glance at his updated stats, a grin forming as he saw his promotion to a new level.

"..."
Arthur was speechless from what he saw, but then shook his head to snap back to reality.
"You know what, I'll take care of that later."
Arthur then fired another concentrated beam of holy energy from Starfall, Gaia appeared beside him, materializing in the air as she floated down gracefully.
Her arms wrapped around his neck from behind, and she rested her ample chest against his back, a teasing smile on her lips.
"You really gave me a scare there, Arthur."
Gaia murmured, her voice soft but playful.
"I thought you were a goner."
Arthur shrugged, his gaze fixed on the battlefield as he momentarily ignored the soft feeling behind his back.
"Honestly, I don't know what happened. One moment, I was in the Shadow Realm, and the next, I woke up to all... this."
Gaia's grip tightened slightly as she leaned closer.
"Well, whatever it was, I'm glad you're back. Don't pull that stunt again."
Arthur chuckled.
"I'll try not make it a habit."
He starts aiming Starfall at a cluster of Absalom's blood constructs.
Each shot exploded on impact, reducing the vampiric forces to ash.
However, something gnawed at him as he watched the chaos unfold.
"Hmm... something's missing..."
He muttered, tapping his chin.
Then, an idea clicked as his eyes lit up with excitement.
"Oh, I know!"
With a snap of his fingers, a thousand glowing blue Lightsabers materialized in the air.
Each blade are imbued with Arthur's holy aura and hovered momentarily before locking onto Absalom, swarming him with relentless precision.
"What the?!"
Absalom's eyes widened as he evaded the luminous onslaught, twisting and turning through the futuristic cityscape.
Flying lightsabers chased him relentlessly, while Sentinels and Terminators fired from below, forcing him to dodge and weave.
Security turrets and Yautjas added to the chaos, their concentrated fire leaving him no room to counterattack.
Despite his best efforts, Absalom was growing desperate, his vessel teetering on the edge of collapse.
His frustration boiled over, but before he could curse his predicament, Arthur appeared directly in front of him, teleporting in with a smug grin and the Excalibur Destruction at hand.
"Surprise, motherfucker."
Arthur quipped, raising Excalibur Destruction in a holy aura-filled swing, clashing with Absalom's hastily created blood sword.
The two clashed in a flurry of strikes, the force of their blows sending shockwaves through the city.
Arthur's newfound strength and integration of holy energy evened the playing field, and Absalom's previous injuries began to take their toll.
After an intense exchange, Arthur unleashed a concentrated holy beam from his sword, blasting Absalom back.
Before the Blood God could recover, Arthur raised his hand and performed a grabbing motion, summoning his mental prowess to lift two nearby skyscrapers.
With a bit of effort, he slammed the buildings together, crushing Absalom between them.
The buildings exploded in a brilliant cascade as it was filled with holy-imbued explosives, sending debris scattering across the city.
Arthur hovered above the destruction, calm and composed, as he observed Absalom's health bar.
XxX
Health: 9,785/300,000 [Former: 3,000,000/3,000,000]
XxX
It was almost depleted, flickering at the quadruple digit mark.
But Arthur knew better than to celebrate prematurely.
*BOOM!*
*ROAR!*
A massive eruption of blood-red energy burst from the rubble, and Absalom roared in unholy fury.
From the explosion emerged a colossal, multi-headed blood hydra, its writhing heads spewing chaotic beams that tore through the futuristic city, leveling buildings and scattering defenses.
Arthur whistled, impressed.
"Not bad."
He admitted, leaning casually on Excalibur Destruction.
"But I can do better."
With another snap of his fingers, the ground shook as an enormous Sentinel materialized.
Towering over the city, the mechanized giant had three heads, six arms, and wielded equally massive, glowing blue lightsabers.
The metallic titan radiated an aura of unstoppable power as it advanced toward the blood hydra.
Arthur, now perched comfortably atop a nearby building, smiled as he watched the impending clash.
"I name this new creation, Sentinel Asura! Now, beat this bloodsucker up!"
Gaia floated down beside him, taking a seat and waving a small flag she'd conjured from nowhere.
"Go, Sentinel Asura, Go!"
She cheered, her voice lighthearted and full of amusement.
Arthur leaned back, hands act as his supports, grinning as the two colossal entities prepared to engage.
"This is gonna be so good."
*ROAR! x2"
The roar between the Sentinel Asura and the Blood Hydra shook the very foundations of the Land of Steel.
The hydra unleashed beams of destructive blood energy from its numerous heads, but the sentinel raised its six glowing lightsabers, blocking the blasts with masterful precision.
Without hesitation, the sentinel charged forward, its immense form tearing through buildings and debris, slicing multiple hydra heads in one swift, calculated strike.
The hydra retaliated, its serpentine heads lashing out to bite and restrain the sentinel's limbs.
Yet, the giant sentinel proved relentless, severing the attacking heads with its weapons.
For every head it destroyed, two more grew in its place, the hydra's regenerative abilities intensifying the battle.
"Wooo! This is way better than wrestling!"
On the sidelines, Arthur and Gaia cheered wildly, joined by an army of Terminators and Yautjas, all roaring in unison as if watching a high-stakes arena match.
The atmosphere buzzed with energy, the metallic streets trembling beneath the weight of the ongoing battle.
Despite the hydra's regeneration, the sentinel pressed its advantage, delivering crushing blows that shook the ground.
Its dominance was clear, each swing of its lightsabers reducing the blood beast further.
Arthur, always calculating, used Observe to scan the hydra and immediately spotted Absalom hiding within its chest, his regenerative aura fueling the monstrous construct.
"Oh no, you don't."
Arthur muttered, raising Excalibur Destruction and aim it's blade.
He steadied his hand, his glowing eyes narrowing as the blade fired a destructive beam.
The beam fired at it's target, piercing the hydra's chest with great accuracy.
A brilliant explosion of light erupted, blasting Absalom from the hydra's core and sending him hurtling backward, his body flung through the air like a ragdoll.
The Sentinel Asura, sensing the opening, opened its three massive mouths and unleashed three concentrated plasma beams.
The blast consumed the hydra entirely, obliterating it in a final, cataclysmic detonation.
Absalom's broken form crashed through several buildings, creating a trail of destruction until he skidded to a stop on the metallic street.
His vessel, now a grotesque shell of exposed muscles and brittle bones, struggled to rise.

Health: 34/300,000 [Former: 3,000,000/3,000,000]
XxX
His health flickered near zero, and his reddish aura was a pale imitation of its former might.
*Cough x4"
Coughing and shaking, Absalom growled,
"I... will not be defeated... by the hands of a mere human child..."
He staggered to his feet, only to feel the searing pain of multiple lightsabers impaling his body.
Holy energy coursed through him as the light weapons pinned his arms, legs, and abdomen to the ground, locking him in place within the crater.
Absalom's glowing, hate-filled eyes looked up, his vision filled with the sight of Arthur standing over him, Starfall aimed directly at his head while resting the Holy Sword on his shoulder.
Behind Arthur, the colossal Sentinel Asura loomed, casting an imposing shadow.
The remaining forces of the Land of Steel, Sentinels, Terminators, Yautjas, Gaster Blasters, and automated turrets, surrounded them, each weapon aimed on the defeated Blood God.
"No... this cannot be..."
Absalom muttered, his voice trembling with both fury and disbelief.
"Weak as I am... I am still a god... I cannot lose to... a human!"
Arthur tilted his head, an amused smirk on his face.
"Absalom, you lost not because you were weak... though, technically, that's also a good reason because you just got resurrected and just inhabited the body of an old guy ... but the reason why you're gonna lose is because you underestimated humanity."
He crouched slightly, his glowing blue eyes piercing into Absalom's as he delivered his words.
"And now... you're done for my guy. So, any last words?"
