High School Dxd: Word of Creation

Chapter 13: Chapter 12 - Learning and Madness

Hiyama's mansion, Kuoh town –

POV: Hiyama Oreki –

The next day I had the best shower thought in the world…

Mind Magic! I should learn it; it seems I was somewhat protected from psychic intrusion by Logos Reverie. Sacred gears had a natural mind defense, what about using mind magic on myself? That wasn't all either, I also wanted to test biomancy. I wanted to see if I could create more mouths on my body to use Logos Reverie more efficiently.

I planned on creating something similar to Thought acceleration and Memory partitioning, it happened while I was thinking about Shiori's sword Clarent looking like the one Mordred used in the Fate universe. This will speed up the process of learning other types of magic.

I messaged Azazel with a special phone he gave me designed for the Grigori. I asked him for any books he had on Mind magic, as well as specific books related to thought acceleration or memory partitioning. By midday a teleportation circle appeared on the front porch, out of it came a box filled with five books on various Mind Magic, and three on biomancy.

Looking through them thought acceleration seemed to be already explored, but memory partitioning had not yet been made. It seemed most supernatural races didn't feel the need to learn something like that because they often had natural advantages in terms of reflexes. Also, I imagine for the longer-lived races there wasn't an incentive to rush like I had. Considering the urgency I felt, I immediately began to try and learn thought acceleration.

It wasn't a difficult spell, but it came with the caveat that it resulted in an enormous physical backlash with more extreme uses. It took a few hours, but I learned thought acceleration pretty easily; the good thing about thought acceleration is it allowed me to learn other things faster.

So, once I had finished learning thought acceleration, I immediately set about finishing all of the books Raynare had gotten me while accelerating my thought process. What would have probably taken days was reduced to just one, and that was while I was a beginner.

In the ten Mind magic books, I learned about various defenses as well as how to wipe or modify memories. Most supernatural's had a natural defense against mind magic, so it's only real use was to cover your tracks by wiping human memories. There were also ways to make someone ignore something, this was what I assumed Sona did to get the Kuoh staff to ignore her sword.

After I learned all I could from the books, I decided to ask for more books on various magic, I didn't have the knowledge necessary to create memory partitioning, but that didn't mean I couldn't abuse thought acceleration until I could. This time instead of bothering Azazel I asked Mittelt to go to the Grigori and retrieve as many books as they would allow me.

Seeing that it was night by that point I hit the hay until Mittelt returned tomorrow with the books.

Underworld –

POV: Sirzechs Lucifer –

Standing before me was my wife Grayfia, she had just returned from surveilling Kuoh.

"Report. What do you know of these Oreki siblings?" I ordered.

"They are the children of two somewhat prominent individuals in Kyoto. They were raised as Catholics, something they get from their mother who is American. Shiori Oreki had entered Kuoh in the same year as Lady Rias and Sona, she is an active member of the Kendo club and even was considered to be lady Sona's second knight. Her older brother who is in the same year didn't start attending until the school became co-ed the year after to allow Kiba Yuuto to attend. They lived alone on a rental property owned by their parents, but everything changed about two weeks ago." I hummed at her report, it wasn't anything unusual for now.

Continuing Grayfia said, "Two weeks ago it seems Hiyama Oreki awakened a powerful sacred gear that allows him to make anything he says true. From that moment it can be assumed he began his rapid growth. He entered conflict with four fallen angels who were covertly operating in Kuoh. The likelihood is that he was attacked because of his sacred gear but managed to defeat them." It wasn't unusual for sacred gear holders to grow rapidly, but how did he go from fighting the fallen to having them serve him.

Deciding to ask, "How do you know he was attacked? And how did he go from being hostile to an ally?"

"There were signs of memory alteration used on several residents of Kuoh that wasn't Rias or Sona. Also, this is testimony from Hiyama himself." She answered. "It is safe to assume that after he had been attacked, he came into contact with a higher ranking fallen whom he made a deal with. It's possible having the three fallen that attacked him become his servants may be an attempt at an apology."

Grayfia handed me a stack of papers that contained her report. Most of it was combining what Hiyama had told Rias and Sona, and logical conclusions. Sona had wisely contacted Grayfia with the knowledge that The Grigori was active in Kuoh. However, as I scanned the paper, I noticed something that was even more concerning.

Grayfia seeing that I got to the next part of her report began to speak, "I have also discovered that Heaven appears to be active around Kuoh as well. One of the Ophanim was detected not too far from Kuoh, it may have been he was just passing by, but we can never be too careful. However, I am sure that the Ophanim was attempting to go undetected, had I not gone myself it would have remained unnoticed. I should also mention that lady Rias' queen, Akeno, had a meeting with Hiyama Oreki yesterday."

Kuoh seemed to be quickly becoming an epicenter of activity for the Three Great Factions. "Increase the number of devils watching Kuoh, also have father send some of the Gremory household guard to protect Rias. Things could escalate quickly, but I know Rias would not want to leave, so we should send extra protection."

Kuoh Academy, Kuoh town –

POV: Hiyama Oreki –

The next day the weekend ended, so I spent most of the day at school. At least I was supposed to, instead I mind controlled the students and staff to believe that Shiori and I were there. Instead, we hung around outside in one of the green areas.

The small area had several trees, benched, and a small pond.

Shiori clearly wanted to say something, so I said, "What do you want, Shiori?"

"So… What happened between you and Raynare?" I had expected to have to address it with her, but I knew she wasn't going to make it simple.

"Well, when a man likes a woman very much, they lock their mouths together and then babies pop out!" I said sarcastically.

"I'm serious Hiyama… I thought you liked Akeno, and I mean before the whole solving her daddy issues." Shiori said in a surprisingly serious way.

We both sort of had a thing for Akeno, since then it wasn't as severe, but old Hiyama would have lost his crap at the idea of Akeno kissing him on the cheek. Shiori also Idolized her as the perfect example of what a lady was like. Though she was nothing like her and failed consistently to meet the standard that was Akeno, it never stopped her from looking up to her.

After finding out she was a devil I had thought she may let it go, but after realizing that just because you were a fallen or devil didn't mean you were evil. She kept a general disdain for devils, but she was more open to the idea of liking the Fallen Trio and others.

"I do, I guess… It just isn't as significant to me anymore. Besides, Raynare isn't all that bad. Considering you hated her until relatively recently. It's not as if I will be marrying her tomorrow." I said.

"What of your morals?" She responded. "I will admit that she isn't all that bad, she is certainly a good teacher and skilled. I just can't help to think you may be moving too fast, we don't even know what Azazel is planning. Surely, he has more in store than just giving us all these things." I understood her concerns, especially the part about Azazel.

I knew that Azazel from canon tended to go overboard, but when he did so it was because he already established a good relationship with the main cast. I had looked for any potential surveillance in the new mansion and I couldn't find any, not necessarily meaning they weren't there. I even asked the fallen trio if they knew anything after they entered our contract, yet still nothing. It was all too convenient; he had to want something he just hadn't revealed it yet.

"I understand, for now I will keep my relationship with Raynare or any other woman non-romantic. I can't make a promise I won't do anything sexual with them, it's kind of hard if you know what I mean…" At that last part I felt a bit embarrassed.

"Oh, believe me dear brother, I know how hard you'll find it to not stick your dick into one of them. Especially when it seems Raynare and Kala both want to give it up to you. Just do me a favor and don't give it up to them." She was asking me not to fall in love, I didn't necessarily think I was in danger of doing that. It would be nice to have someone to love romantically, but I know the potential danger of it being one of the fallen.

"Okay sis, I'll keep it all business like." She looked at me sympathetically at my dejected tone I failed to hide. She walked over to me and sat next to me on the bench.

"I know how much you want to love and be loved Hiyama. Even if you've never admitted it to yourself, you've always wanted to have someone to hold in your arms…" She smiled for a moment. "That's why I know Raynare will be difficult to resist, when she sat on your lap, I imagine you had felt more affection than you'd ever had before. At least non-familial affection…"

We sat in a comfortable silence after that until we heard someone approaching. Looking to see who it was, our luck couldn't have been worse…

It was Kiba with that look again. It appears he recovered enough to move while the rest of his peerage was in class. I stood up to get in front of Shiori.

"What do you want, pretty boy?" I asked him.

"I must destroy that holy sword… I must… I- I-" He clearly wasn't well. It seems the effects of Clarent on him were severe. The sword called on those who wanted revenge and amplified those feelings. Azazel had mentioned it but hadn't given the proper significance to it. Clarent was cursed by God after Mordred had used it to kill Arthur Pendragon, it was meant to inflict those who wielded it with the spirit of Mordred. In other words, anyone who held the sword with a desire for vengeance in their heart was consumed by it.

The only reason Shiori was able to wield it was because of the immense holy element she had. It acted like a shield from the curse, which I imagine is why Azazel gave it to her.

"Isiah…" I said with sympathy. "What if I told you that you weren't the only survivor of the holy sword project?"

"I'd call you a liar." Despite him claiming me a liar I could see him hesitate, had he not he'd have attacked by now.

"Her name is Tosca; her sacred gear awakened and protected her by sealing her away. She is held in a facility by the church cause they can't get her out. I can help you reach her; the church doesn't know how to get her out of the seal, but I do." He was not having a good time. He was clearly trying to resist Clarent but needed a bit of help.

I could calm him down if I kept pushing, "Which is more important, the destruction of the holy swords or the only other survivor? Will you ignore her imprisonment, even though you have the power to help her now?" He was jerking like a man on drugs, but I could see he was resisting Clarent.

The only thing that could resist Clarent's influence was either immense holy element, or an even greater desire. I was pulling out the desire to save Tosca to help him resist the blade.

Feeling I had properly pushed from the razor's edge I gave him one last push, gathering the Voice I said, "Kiba, resist the effects of Clarent." After I said that he stumbled back as if an invisible force hit him before returning to his senses.

"What happened?" He asked holding his head in his hand.

"You had fallen under the effects of a curse that spiked your desire for revenge. I helped you resist the curse. Though I did mean what I said, Tosca is still alive." At that she perked up and began to walk forward.

"Where is she?!" He yelled.

"I told you that already…" I responded a bit perturbed that he wasn't listening to me. "Though you can't save her alone, and she isn't in any immediate danger. I can help you get to her if you agree to stop acting like a crazy person." I shot down the idea of him going to that church in Italy as soon as I could. Him going now would only result in an exorcist killing him.

"Let's get you back to your club building, and we can talk about it with your master present." At that he nodded, still a bit confused by the effects of Clarent.

When I looked back at Shiori she looked at Kiba strangely, "God you are weird…"

Deciding to do this alone I tell Shiori to go home, while I begin to walk with Kiba to the old schoolhouse.
