Chapter 33: Part of Anandaman II

Over the past year, Nobu had undergone basic physical training, receiving increased portions of food to support his body. Bucephalus sought to gain Nobu's trust so that he would demonstrate his abilities on his own initiative.

It was more like physical education than weightlifting with dumbbells - Nobu only worked with his own weight. Bucephalus, having experience in training cartel fighters, knew that a child's body should not be overloaded too much to avoid injuries that could negatively affect growth.

Nobu achieved good results, but under dissatisfied grumbling, his training requirements were tripled. Bucephalus sought to accustom Nobu to regular and independent training, participating in them less and less, but quickly intervened, noticing the hackwork of his ward. Squats, push-ups, running - in these exercises Nobu achieved the best results.

At the same time, Nobu studied the language, and he was freed from additional work during training. During this time, they became close: Nobu appreciated the experienced fighter's coolness and was surprisingly pleasant to talk to. Sometimes they had to switch to English, but Bucephalus understood him a little.

Bucephalus explained the necessity of the brutality he resorted to. Nobu remembered several quotes from his mentor: "Execution is a necessary measure to keep the slaves in fear and gain respect among the fighters." He also learned the importance of demonstrating force to prevent treason and escape.

As part of the cartel, they had their own territory, but neighbored the Junta. There were skirmishes, which recently became more frequent, and this could lead to war, which is why Bucephalus enlisted Nobu's training. Not so much for war, but to become a full-fledged cartel fighter and get a padma on his forearm, a tattoo in turn guarantees him at least protection from the cartel and not becoming a slave.

The boy told him about his ability - Adhesion, but it contradicted the version about using Frost Breath. Nobu found it difficult to tell the whole story, but asked to trust him.

Bucephalus began to think that he had two quirks, which is impossible. No one in history has ever been born with two quirks. Then Nobu answered: - During some events, I received these quirks, but I lost some over time. - Then he told about a man named AFO and his incredible ability to take away and give quirks.

- Is there really such a person in Japan? - Nobu could not tell more due to language limitations. Bucephalus always reminded him: "Not everything depends on the quirk, I have seen fighters stronger than me torn apart by shells and bullets. First of all, the head must be good, it is also important to practice and trust instincts." And instincts are part of the most important composition of Nobu's Aspects.

Over time, Nobu got used to warming up and running on his own, it began to become a habit, in addition, Nobu had experience in self-knowledge and perfectly felt his quirks thanks to multiple experiences. In his short life, he already owned many quirks and felt them perfectly. There was nothing to do anyway, but at least it would be useful. One night, Nobu was returning from the shooting range and met a smoking Firespitter. Nobu could already speak Burmese quite fluently.

- Never smoke that shit, kid. It will kill you faster than a bullet.

- I don't like the smell of cigarettes. - Strong perception sometimes really interfered.

- That's right. I see they've been busy with you, and don't despair if something doesn't work out. - Nobu smelled alcohol from his mouth.

- Fire-spitter, I saw an inscription on a box of cartridges at the shooting range that I couldn't read before....

-This is the serial number of the product, all weapons and ammunition are created by the junta, that is, all the enterprises and factories are under them, so the cartel has to buy weapons from them. Fortunately, there is a lot of this in stock at the Anandaman central headquarters, enough for an entire army. - said the slightly drunk guy. - It seems I let it slip to you a little. It's good that you are with us.

-Why doesn't the leader of Anandaman just buy chainsaws or equipment. - This thought had been visiting him for a long time, why exploit a bunch of people, increase the mortality rate among workers. In textbooks, he recalled how large machines for industrial wood extraction could easily mow down hectares. -This way the workers will be able to work on equal terms with the fighters...

-What the fuck is equality, guy. They are fucking slaves, homeless people and beggars. Throw all this leftist nonsense out of your head. There is no equality, and if there was, then it is an illusion for the crowd, built by the strongest and most influential in order to satisfy the proletariat. Equality was invented for the untalented, everything should be divided into castes and hierarchy. - He showed the padma on his forearm, the first of the five petals was blue.

- The only thing that matters is strength. - He finished smoking and said lastly. - If you want, I can teach you how to fight, you are, of course, still small, but you have the core for it.

The next day, Nobu shared with Bucephalus everything he heard from Firespitter, citing the smell of alcohol.

- Well, he got carried away, he's usually not so talkative. Remember, alcohol, cigarettes and other drugs are created to confuse your brains, stupefy you, and of course, to pump out money, and Firespitter himself is a real slacker. Nobu, it's up to you to believe his words or not, but here's what I'll tell you. Trust only your experience, instincts, principles and don't listen to anyone. I'm only going on about it for your own good, so it's in your best interests to believe me. Of course, I'll have to punish him, alcohol is prohibited in the camp. - Nobu listened attentively, he had a feeling that his mentor's words were correct, at least it was logical.

At the morning training this time, Bucephalus shared a method for training abilities.

-Almost always, training a quirk is a methodical repetition, like training muscles, but sometimes you need to approach it wisely, and even the strongest quirks have limitations. Usually, it is the initially strong quirks that have a number of restrictions on where and how to develop. Immediately dispelling your doubts. Yes, a quirk can be developed, or it can evolve. I had a chance to observe this with my own eyes, when fighters on the verge of death forced their bodies to work beyond the daily load and at the same time, it seemed as if the quirk was rebuilt along with them in response to a critically stressful situation.

Nobu heard this for the first time, he knew that you can improve a quirk by supplementing it with well-developed techniques and physical strength, but for it to evolve - no. Perhaps from other quirks, as he had long ago with Rollback and Synthesis of quirks.

-You can forget about it, it happens quite rarely and then only to very experienced users who control their ability perfectly. Okay, now the Adhesion training itself. I think it will be enough to simply hold on to the activated ability for as long as possible to increase the time spent with it.

Nobu approached the tree and, activating Adhesion, stood parallel to the trunk, standing horizontally.

- It's harder than it seems.

- For each fall, you run a kilometer and do 50 push-ups. - said Bucephalus with a sly smile, trying to motivate the student to work harder. - In most cases, training a quirk is no different from physical exercise. The most basic rule remains the same: with the right technique, the desired result is achieved.

- By the way, I didn't tell you what happens to those who forge a padma on their hand and infiltrate the ranks of Anandaman as an outsider. They cut off their forearm and burn a traitor's mark on their forehead. The cartel has close friendly relations with each other, a team and other necessary crap. Therefore, it is easy to find a traitor and a pretender, and only authorized people - red or black colors - can put a mark. Now I will leave you, I have a lot of things to do.

Bucephalus left Nobu, counting on his discipline and endurance, which he tried to instill throughout the entire term. It worked. Nobu obediently carried out the punishment prescribed by the mentor, falling from the tree each time. Of course, it was difficult for him, but it would have been much more difficult in the future if he had not done it. Nobu counted on overcoming weakness and stopping being a child, growing up and adopting the best qualities of his surroundings. This is what children do, right?

Bucephalus also told about some other mining camps, in this one they only dealt with wood, the other camps mainly grew opium. There are not many such camps, but in total a huge number of people were involved. "At least they are all right with supplies." Nobu thought about how they transported all this raw material and realized that he hadn't noticed the trucks before. "The camp turns out to be bigger than it seems. There's also a checkpoint and a couple of warehouses and..."

Firespitter also helped train Nobu in close combat, although Nobu will have to wait quite a long time to grow up, become slimmer to fight on equal terms, but it's never too late to lay the foundations. At the same time, he remembered how his grandmother beat him with a cane and desperately tried to forget about it. However, he tried to independently study Expansion, and he got a very interesting ability. Taking the stone in his hands, he charged it, the stone began to actively flicker, creating a glitch effect visible only to Nobu. The stone did not change temperature, texture and shape, but if you apply a quirk to it again, for example, throw or push it, it will release the accumulated charge in flight, which will significantly speed it up.

Nobu tried different hand positions, how to throw stones to increase accuracy. He doesn't even need to carry a weapon, one such pebble can pierce a tree trunk, let alone a human skull. If you release the charge without applying any force to it, then the charge will simply dissipate. In general, he needs a given vector of movement, then the quirk can be applied and the projectile will be accelerated. The object turns from a simple object into a real projectile. "I wonder what evolution Adhesion and Expansion will have?"
