His only Cure

Chapter 20: Chapter 20

Looking around the office carefully, she spotted Sophie in the same place as yesterday.

She looked at her up and down with a disgusted expression.

"Good morning, Mrs. Pilsar" Sophie politely greeted, slightly bowing her head.

"Not that good at all" She snapped, checking if anyone else was hiding here. "How long do I have to wait for him? He doesn't answer the phone, he's not in the apartment. He definitely took Diana with him. And that doctor. Running away from me won't help him. Eventually I'll find the right woman for him" She walked back and forth, mumbling under her breath. "He'll come back someday. He won't leave the company for long. Maybe I won't meet him this time, but next time he won't escape me" She plotted, holding her hand to a very expensive necklace.

She glanced out of the corner of her eye at Sophie working next to her, checking if she was listening. "Well, it looks like I have nothing to look for here. I think I'll go back to Paris sooner" She turned on her high heel and left the office with her head held high.

Sophie looked up as the woman left. Her eyes stayed on the door for a moment. This won't end that easily. Finally, evening came and Sophie was able to go home.

Neither Darell nor Diana let her know how they were doing. Deep in thought, she entered the building where she lived, once again seeing her boss's mother wandering around the hall.

She obviously thought they would quickly get back to the apartment after hearing that she was coming home. Unfortunately, she wasn't patient enough not to show herself to anyone at least until the end of the day. She saw Sophie enter the building and approached her angrily with a frown.

"You.." She pointed an impolite finger at the girl. "It's your fault! I'm sure you warned them not to come back! Tell me where they are right now or you'll regret it!" She raised her voice at her, drawing the attention of the other people. Sophie calmly looked at the angry woman and took a deep breath.

"Mrs. Pilsar. I'm telling you again that I don't know where your children are. I'm just trying to do the job assigned to me. I don't need any problems. I am after work. Excuse me" She explained calmly and walked away towards her apartment.

"Insolence! Who let her in here anyway! Don't you know who she is? Just watch as she steals some important data and leads to the collapse of the company! How can you let her do this with impunity!" She shouted to the building security but no one responded.

The men knew how much Mr. Pilsar appreciated Miss Sophie. The day she moved in and someone from the building made a scandal, the boss himself came to inform all the security staff that Miss Sophie should not lose a hair on her head.

No one is allowed to cause trouble for her. The men had no problem informing the other dissatisfied residents about this fact, but Mr. Pilsar's mother was a completely different matter.

Her son informed the building and company employees that they should absolutely not worry about the woman's behavior. Her threats didn't work on anyone because she couldn't fire anyone. So every time she appeared, everyone knew what to do.

But this was new to Sophie. Darell didn't tell her anything, but her mother's behavior towards Sophie didn't bother her at all.

She's been through enough with her demanding father. These threats were nothing compared to his humiliation and... - the girl touched her cheek. She only had to stand up to him a few times to find out that he had no scruples about hitting her.

She entered the apartment slowly, lost in thought, not wanting to do anything. Recalling the bad moments in her life, she wasn't hungry anymore. She took off her clothes and poured herself a bathtub of hot water and with relief she immersed herself up to her ears. The warmth allowed her body to relax.

Closing her eyes, she remembered yesterday's conversation with Darell and Diana. For a moment, a smile appeared on her face. These two siblings gave her a hard time, but there were also good times. She rested her head on the edge of the bathtub, looking at the ceiling. It was a strange feeling she felt now. Seeing them all the time, she couldn't wait to be alone. But when she didn't hear from them all day, she missed it.

The water slowly started to get cold, so Sophie climbed out of the bathtub and changed into comfortable pajamas. She welcomed the soft bed with pleasure, cuddling into the soft pillow.

With a slight hesitation, she picked up the phone and dialed Darell's number. However, before she could call, Diana's number appeared on the screen.

"Hey, I was just about to call you. How are you?" She asked curiously.

"Sophie, it's bad... Very bad. Try to call Darell and talk to him before he does something stupid" Diana informed Sophie in a whisper with concern in her voice.

"What happened?" The girl sat on the bed with a worried face.

"Noah called to tell him what happened today and mom apparently outdid herself. She invited the daughter of one of the high-ranking politicians to live temporarily in Darell's apartment"

Sophie's face took on a very menacing look when she heard her friend's words.

"The worst thing is that this chick agreed and from tomorrow she is going to live there until my brother comes back. Darell is going crazy. He is already on the verge of exhaustion and only you can calm him down, or at least I hope so. Sophie..." You could hear a slight tremor in her voice. "Please help him"

She quickly ended the conversation when she heard her brother rush into her room and start shouting something.

Sophie wasted no time. She quickly dialed his number. Silence. She tried again. After a few rings it went to voicemail. She quickly wrote a message "Please pick up. I miss you" She had to somehow convince him to pick up and that was the only thought that could do it. And it wasn't actually made up. She missed him a little. She tried again. This time he picked up after three rings.

"Hey, how are you?" She began quietly and calmly. "It seems that I've gotten used to you and your cockiness"

There was only silence on the phone so the girl decided to continue talking. "Your employees are really good. You could even say that I could run the company without you" She laughed to herself. "Noah is very helpful and well organized. We work well together. I was thinking a lot today and a few unpleasant memories came to my mind" She started, not knowing whether it would make his condition worse. She was silent for a moment, giving him the opportunity to answer.

"What..." Finally his hoarse, tired voice could be heard.

"It doesn't matter now... But it's a pity you're not here. I could hug you and forget about sad things" She started stroking the pillow on which he usually lay next to her. "How are you? It's probably hard for you without sleep..." She was worried, imagining his tired person holding on with all his strength.

"I feel bad without you, Sophie" He whispered. Chills ran through her entire body.

"Darell... maybe you can try to close your eyes and listen to my voice, hmm?" She didn't know how she could help him. She felt bad knowing how he was suffering and wanted to do something for him.

"This is not the same. I need to have you with me... To feel your body,... your scent,... the beating of your... heart" His voice was getting weaker. Suddenly, Sophie only heard something fall.

"Darell? Darell! Are you there!" She called louder, but only silence answered her. She quickly hung up and dialed Diana's call.

"Yes?"

"Check on him quickly! He stopped responding!" Sophie exclaimed nervously.

"Tomas! Look what's wrong with Darell!" She called to her friend, who quickly went with her to the man's room.

"Darell.... Darell, can you hear me?" Tomas's voice was heard. "He lost consciousness. I'll take care of him" She heard his serious voice. Tears appeared in Sophie's eyes.

"I'm sorry, Diana. I tried" She whispered sadly.

"It's not your fault, Sophie. At least now he will rest. It would happen sooner or later anyway" She said with a trembling voice. Seeing her brother suffer must have been hard for her.

"As soon as the situation improves and you come back, we will work on his sleep" Sophie decided, setting a new goal. She wasn't going to watch and wait while Darell exhausted himself.

"I don't want to see you suffering. You deserve better and I promise to help you with that" She said honestly ending the call.

After these few weeks, she couldn't hide the fact that she had become attached to these two. She felt good in their company, as if they had known each other for several years. There was only one thing she could do to help them.

Her expression changed from sad to menacing. It will start tomorrow and they won't be happy with what they see. Not his mother, not that woman who thinks Darell will be hers.
