His Ruthless Pursuit

Chapter 10: 10

I watched as Mateo and his mom came walking back inside the dining hall. Aurellia and Martín followed shortly behind them.

I finally managed to get Mila back from that vampire, Cara. After talking to Umberto and Javi we decided to go back to our table and now Mila was holding onto my hand while eating the cupcake that Umberto had given her.

"Hi Mila, I'm Mateo's mom. It's so nice to finally meet you." Lola told Mila who kindly smiled up at her.

"Nice to meet you too." Mila kindly told Lola who nodded at her with a smile on her face.

"You're very kind, Mila." Lola told her with a kind smile on her face and Mila looked down at the cupcake in her hand.

"May I get a hug?" Lola asked Mila and she looked back up before she slowly nodded and Lola picked her up into her arms.

"Oh you're so pretty, you're a replica of your mom." Lola told her before tickling her and Mila laughed at her actions.

"She's so precious." Lola told Mateo. She was avoiding eye contact with me, she clearly wants nothing to do with me anymore.

"I'd like to get DNA tests done." Lola told me and my heart sunk into the pit of my stomach.

"Mom, you're stepping over the line." Mateo told his mom as I took Mila from her while looking at her in pure shock.

"How dare you?" I asked her and she just blankly stared at me.

"I don't trust you, Hera." Lola pointedly told me.

"I'm not putting my daughter through any of that, it's humiliating. And that just because you're mad at me." I told Lola and she scoffed at my words.

"Why are you so against having a DNA test done? Mila will forget about it by the time she turns seven. "Should I bring my doctor to you or?" Lola asked me and I looked at her in shock.

"Fine, have it your way. Just don't apologize to me when those tests results comes back positive." I told Lola and she angrily glared at me.

"Oh I won't apologize to you. I'll apologize to your daughter who actually deserves an apology." She angrily told me.

"We don't have to do this." Mateo told me and I shook my head at him.

"No, we do. And tell everyone what those results say. As a matter of fact tell the entire family, Lola. Prove it to yourself and prove it to them that I have been faithful to Mateo all these years." I told Lola and she nodded at me.

"Very well," Lola blankly told me before she walked away from us and I looked at Mateo as he clenched his jaw. He walked away from me while holding Mila's hand.

I swear everyone here hates me. I don't belong here anymore, and I don't feel welcome. I need to take my daughter and we need to leave.

"Hera!" I heard a familiar voice coming from behind me so I smiled broadly.

"Tiago!" I said before I threw my arms around his shoulders and he wrapped his arms around my waist before he lightly spun me around.

He placed me on the ground before he cupped my face in both of his hands and I smiled at him.

"It's really you, isn't it?" He asked me and I nodded at him. "You look good, beautiful as always." He said and I shook my head at him. "You just get prettier by the day, don't you?" He asked me and I just smiled at him.

"I still look the same, Tiago." I told him and he smiled before he pulled me into his chest again.

"I know but I missed you." He said and I wrapped my arms around him.

"I missed you so much more." I told him and we just stayed in each other's arms for a little while longer.

Santiago used to be Mateo's right hand man for some reason he got demoted to being a sniper and he's the best sniper in the family.

We've always been close, he's one of the people I love the most in this world.

"You have to meet my daughter. She's the cutest little girl ever. You'll love her." I told him and he smiled at me.

"Of course I will." He told me with a smile on his face.

"Your conversation with Lola seemed pretty intense." He remarked and I sighed tiredly.

"She wants to do a DNA test." I told Tiago and he froze in his steps.

"What the fuck?" He asked me and I nodded at him.

"Yeah she's pissed at me." I told him and he shot me a blank look.

"And with good reason. Hera. I was pissed at you. You just left without saying anything. And now you're back and Mateo's just acting as if everything is fine, and I'm telling you this with the most respect but that's not how it works. When someone leaves the mafia, they have to bear the consequences of their actions." Tiago told me and I nodded at him.

"I know." I told him and he sighed lightly.

"That's how she lost her husband, and you know this. He tried to leave the mafia for her sake and it ended up killing him." Tiago told me and I sighed lightly.

"I know but I don't regret what I did. And if that means that I have to die then so be it. As long as I know I did everything in my power to protect my daughter." I told Tiago.

"You're not done are you?" He asked me and I looked into his eyes and he looked into mine. I didn't have to say anything because he already knew what I was going to say.

"Hera you need to stop. You're just confusing your daughter. If you continue going down this road, you'll be the only one who hurts her. No one else." Tiago bluntly told me.

"You don't understand." I told Tiago.

"Then help me understand. What were you running from? What did he do that was so bad that made you feel like you had to disappear?" Tiago asked me and I shook my head at him.

"I should go. Mila must be looking for me." I told Tiago and he clenched his jaw. "I'll see you tomorrow at dinner." I said before hugging him one last time then I made my way out of the building.

I searched the parking lot for Mateo's car but it was nowhere to be found so I called one of our drivers over.

I can't believe that asshole left without me and he took Mila with him.

I climbed into a black car before I told the driver to take me home. I sat back in my seat, noticing that the driver was suspiciously looking at me. He must've heard so many rumors about me. I could only imagine what's going through his mind right now.

After a few long minutes of driving the driver finally stopped in front of the tall gates in front of our house. I thanked him before I climbed out of the car and he waved at me before he drove off.

"Awkward," I muttered to myself while I looked into the facial recognition device. A green light beamed before the gate opened and I sighed in relief before I walked through it.

I forgot to bring a coat, but then again I didn't know I'd have to ask a stranger to bring me home. It started snowing again so I ran up to the house, I stumbled inside before closing the door behind me.

I made my way upstairs to my room before I stripped out of my wet clothes. I pulled my nightgown on before I walked down the hallway to Mila's bedroom. I found her sound asleep in her bed and I clenched my jaw in anger.

I can't keep letting him get away with these things, his digging his claws into my daughter and I need to do something before it's too late.
