Chapter 30: Chapter 30: Snape’s Astonishment
While Wentworth and Cedric were feasting in the Hufflepuff common room, Severus Snape stood alone in his office. The door was ajar, and a cool breeze occasionally swept through.
Finally, when the effects of the spell wore off and Snape regained control of his body, the first thing he did was:
"Ah-choo!"
Snape wiped his nose with his hand, grimacing as the snot threatened to drip into his mouth. Hastily brushing it off, he strode out of his office and headed directly to Dumbledore's office.
Arriving there, he found Dumbledore in his pajamas, a look of surprise etched on the headmaster's face as he took in Snape's anxious expression.
"Severus, you don't look well. What's the matter?" Dumbledore asked curiously.
Snape stepped closer, locking eyes with Dumbledore, and said slowly, "Dumbledore, he-who-must-not-be-named has returned!"
Dumbledore's expression faltered for a moment, and he abruptly stood up.
"Severus, has he contacted you? Where is he?"
"At Hogwarts. He is here now, under the name… Wentworth!"
Dumbledore: "..."
"Severus, I think you might be mistaken," Dumbledore said with a smile as he slowly sat back down.
Seeing Dumbledore's apparent disbelief, Snape's face grew even more anxious. He proceeded to recount in detail the events of the night.
As Snape spoke, Dumbledore's smile gradually faded. When Snape finished, Dumbledore remained silent for a long moment before finally responding:
"Severus, I will investigate this matter thoroughly. But one thing is certain—Wentworth is not Tom Riddle."
Snape could no longer suppress his agitation. He raised his voice, exclaiming, "Dumbledore, how do you explain everything that happened tonight? Are you saying this was your doing? Did you deliberately allow him into Hogwarts, right before Lily's child is set to begin school next year?"
"Why? Is it because of that damned prophecy? He's just a child! You promised me, Dumbledore. You promised to keep him safe!"
Despite Snape's escalating emotions, Dumbledore didn't reprimand him. He waited patiently for Snape to finish venting before replying, "Trust me, Severus. I have not forgotten my promise. In fact, Wentworth's presence will make Harry Potter even safer."
Noting the confusion in Snape's eyes, Dumbledore continued, "Severus, Tom Riddle, also known as Voldemort, is often called the Dark Lord, the most dangerous Dark wizard in history. But in my view, compared to Gellert Grindelwald, the so-called First Dark Lord, Tom Riddle is still lacking."
"Voldemort, I won't deny, is immensely talented and powerful. However, his reputation as the most dangerous Dark wizard comes from his mastery of spreading fear. Even his followers call themselves Death Eaters."
"But before him, Gellert Grindelwald and his followers, the Pureblood Party, posed an even greater challenge. They had a clear agenda and eventually developed their own ideology. Their influence spanned not just Britain but swept across Europe and the United States. If not for…" Dumbledore trailed off, his expression darkening. "In comparison, Voldemort is simply a powerful man with no direction."
Snape was shocked. To him, Voldemort was already the epitome of terror. Yet, in Dumbledore's eyes, Voldemort's menace seemed almost trivial.
"But how does this relate to what I told you tonight?" Snape pressed.
Dumbledore gazed deeply into Snape's eyes and said, "Because Wentworth comes from the Grindelwald family. His full name is Wentworth Grindelwald—leader of the revived Pureblood Party."
Snape was momentarily stunned, unable to process this revelation. Finally, Dumbledore handed him a letter. Much of its content had been magically erased, but what remained read:
During my travels, I've noticed signs of renewed activity from the Pureblood Party in many countries. After years of dormancy, they are reawakening.
We once believed that time would erode their influence as the original followers aged and passed away. But we underestimated their ideology. I've even encountered young wizards who identify as members of the Party, descendants of the original Pureblood Party members.
While this resurgence might not yet be evident in Britain—due to the influence Voldemort once held—it's clear that globally, the Pureblood Party is far stronger than we imagined.
Please confirm whether Gellert Grindelwald remains at Nurmengard. If he is still imprisoned, we must face the possibility that the Party has found a successor to Grindelwald's vision—a new leader poised to rise.
"This letter is from Newt Scamander. I trust you recognize the name," Dumbledore said.
"Of course," Snape replied. "Hogwarts still uses his book as a textbook."
Snape began to grasp Dumbledore's intent but found it difficult to believe. "Are you suggesting that you want Wentworth's Pureblood Party to confront Voldemort's Death Eaters? But he's just a child! I doubt Wentworth could stand against Voldemort."
Dumbledore waved a hand, explaining, "That's where Hogwarts comes in. If Hogwarts could produce a Tom Riddle, why can't it also nurture a Wentworth who can stand against him?"
"And what if Wentworth becomes another threat to the wizarding world?" Snape challenged.
"As you said, Wentworth is still a child. It's up to us to guide him."
