Hokage: I Traveled Through Time With The Tenseigan

Chapter 82: Chapter 81 Am I Practicing Fake Sage Jutsu?

Chiyo was mentally prepared for Sansho Hanzo to chase after Sand Shinobi Village like a mad dog. After all, Sand Shinobi Village had taken revenge on Rain Shinobi Village, and it was only natural for Rain Shinobi Village to pursue them in return.

Demigods, too, have their pride, even if their reputation is of little value to the Five Great Ninja Villages.

However, all the villages and towns in the Land of Rain had been plundered by Sand Shinobi Village. As the leader of Rain Shinobi Village, how could Sansho Hanzo survive in the ninja world without retaliating?

Regardless of whether he had the nerve to hang around, the very name of the Land of Rain demanded retribution.

The Daming Palace poured money into the Rain Shinobi Village every year, supporting Sansho Hanzo in every aspect. It was understandable that he could not defeat the Five Great Ninja Villages outright—after all, the sides were not comparable in strength.

But for Sand Shinobi Village to plunder the Land of Rain without Hanzo even daring to respond was a disgrace. What use was the Daming Palace's investment in him?

Whether for his own reputation, the people of the Land of Rain, or the pride of the country itself, Sansho Hanzo had to confront Sand Shinobi Village. Even if he couldn't win, he needed to fight back—to at least bite off a piece of Sand Shinobi Village, no matter the cost.

Otherwise, he would be remembered as a failure and a sinner.

Thus, Rain Shinobi Village, led by Sansho Hanzo, pursued Sand Shinobi Village relentlessly. The latter's attempt to ally with Iwa Shinobi Village was rebuffed by Loess, a stubborn boy.

Chiyo, for her part, was infuriated but understood the precarious position her village was in.

In this chaotic war, Konoha's main strategy was clear: engage if advantageous and retreat if not, while holding their territory.

Sand Shinobi Village, however, had no such luxury. They were forced to fight head-on without retreat, locking them into a precarious position.

"Trash!" Chiyo cursed angrily before regaining her composure.

She knew that if things continued as they were, Sand Shinobi Village's position in the Rain Country battlefield would grow more untenable.

Of their three enemies, Iwa Shinobi Village did not actively pursue them but showed no mercy when encountered. Rain Shinobi Village hunted them with the ferocity of mad dogs, and Konoha kept a watchful eye on them.

This precarious balance made Sand Shinobi Village's situation increasingly dire.

While sticking to their current strategy might prolong the fight against Rain Shinobi Village and Konoha, Chiyo knew the dynamics of war could shift at any moment. Who could guarantee that Iwa Shinobi Village wouldn't join the fray tomorrow?

If Iwa Shinobi Village aligned with Konoha and Rain Shinobi Village to attack Sand Shinobi Village, her village would face total annihilation.

Meanwhile, in Shigu Forest, Shigeru sat cross-legged on the ground, steadily absorbing natural energy. With the integration of physical energy and spiritual energy, the Sage Jutsu Chakra formed within him.

"Eh!"

Katsuyu Sage, who had been bored, suddenly lowered its massive head to examine Shigeru, who remained motionless.

As Shigeru absorbed natural energy, a faint and thin line appeared under his eyes, resembling eyeliner so subtle it was almost imperceptible.

"Xiao Shigeru, your talent is extraordinary. Your control over Sage Jutsu Chakra is better than most. Even Hashirama may not have matched your precision," Katsuyu Sage remarked.

Shigeru didn't seem to hear this. He opened his eyes and immediately pulled out a mirror.

Sage Jutsu practitioners often developed distinctive physical features. Ryūchi Cave users gained snake tails; Mount Myōboku users bore toad-like faces; Shigu Forest practitioners had their own unique traits.

Shigeru dreaded the possibility of growing extra appendages or developing a perpetually damp appearance.

"Thank goodness!"

Staring into the mirror, Shigeru exhaled in relief.

There were no drastic changes. Had he been practicing a fake Sage Jutsu?

No. He had already entered Sage Jutsu Chakra Mode.

But there had to be something unique about him.

Panicked, Shigeru began checking his body frantically. Only after confirming everything was as it should be did he relax.

Katsuyu Sage tilted its head in confusion, silently observing.

After his self-examination, Shigeru finally spoke: "Katsuyu Sage, is it true that my control of Sage Jutsu Chakra is perfect?"

"Absolutely. The lack of physical alterations and minimal facial markings indicate exceptional control," Katsuyu Sage confirmed, nodding its massive head.

Hashirama Senju's initial Sage Mode activation had left him with distinctive facial lines, while Shigeru had only a subtle darkening under his eyes, giving him an almost aesthetically pleasing appearance.

"Well, you could've warned me earlier. I almost gave myself a heart attack," Shigeru muttered as he picked up the mirror again to admire his subtle transformation.

"Xiao Shigeru," Katsuyu Sage began, "your eyes are particularly special. I've noticed they are passively absorbing natural energy from Shigu Forest. Have you noticed a decrease in your Sage Jutsu Chakra?"

Shigeru was startled. His reincarnated eye was absorbing natural energy?

After a moment of internal assessment, he replied, "The consumption rate seems negligible."

One of the main weaknesses of Sage Mode was the depletion of natural energy during combat. A practitioner had to remain still to replenish it, creating vulnerabilities.

However, Shigeru's reincarnated eye maintained a balance between absorption and consumption, giving him a significant advantage in prolonged battles.
