Samantha Mccoy was born and raised in a small suburban town in New York State, the kind of place where nothing happened. An Idyllic place. Her father and aunt Stella were the only families she had and it was enough for her. Sam didn't remember much about her childhood with her father, just the camping trips where he taught her lots of things. Her fondest memories were of them stargazing into the night. The stories her Father would tell her about the stars, about constellations, and lots of other ridiculous things that she would find entertaining. There was one about visitors from the stars visiting earth a millennium ago-bringing with them their culture and knowledge for the benefit of mankind. Sam remembered a lot of fascinating stories he would make up. She would then make up her own story, stories that he would encourage her to sketch down in her sketchbook. And then the accident when she turned ten when father took her camping to celebrate her birthday. That was when everything would change for her...
"Samantha! Samantha!...." The voices whispered her name within the darkness as she was drowning, the car was being pulled by the current. Father was having a hard time with the seatbelts, trying to undo the one on her, water spilling inside the car. It all happened so fast, the car chase, the explosions, the shooting, and then the accident that got them run over. And then there was darkness, a calm peace where the pain was gone. Where nothing mattered. And then she awoke in an Intensive care unit in some hospital downtown New York. No idea how she got there. Sam had been in a coma for three days, with no initial memories at first of what had happened. Ever since then, her life had become strange...or more like a nightmare. First was the strange colors that she would see around people that others couldn't see. Colors that emitted a melody that allowed her to perceive the emotions of people. Then came anxiety attacks that felt like Sam was dying. She didn't understand what was going on with her or why she had been left alone with no one to explain what was going on. If it hadn't been for her Aunt Stella... She would have ended up all alone. She had been there for everything. Dad's funeral...the hospital appointments, the psych evaluations that amounted to nothing. And then she became Sam's Guardian. Not just her Aunt anymore but the only family Sam had left...Voices...she could hear them whispering within the darkness...
"Samantha! Wake me up. Wake me up."
"She is the Asha'yee. The one to free us from the darkness,"
"But can she.." Something whispered within the darkness. And then it was quiet. Then came the pain.
The piercing pain ripping through Sam's body was all she could remember. Not the fact that she had just remembered something about her Dad, about her childhood...things she did not like to think about...No...the pain was all that she could focus on. The excruciating pain, spasm after spasm of it broke through her body. Sam vaguely remembered trying to push whoever was holding on to her but the person wouldn't budge. She didn't know if it was Rosa or the Sun Prince who she last saw before falling unconscious. Whoever it was held her more tightly the more she struggled against them. And then the pain increased and she blacked out. Voices echoed through the darkness, sinister voices. The girl has it. Then we must find her before the time comes. The Herald would not be pleased. Sam came back to reality, dimly aware that she was still being held. Someone was screaming, screaming for someone's help as they carried her through a strange hallway. Sam went in and out as the pain pulled her body apart. Everything in her body felt like it was tearing apart. Her muscles, her skeleton structure, her nervous system, and even her cells felt like huge amounts of voltage were burning them apart. Like they were splitting apart and then reforming all at the same time. Sam felt like it was only a matter of time till she exploded into nothing from the splitting and reforming. That would be good, wouldn't it? She thought. It wasn't like this was the first time she had been close to death. Twice she had faced death and twice it had rejected her. Maybe death would be preferable to this pain. Maybe she was better off-
"Leon! She has to stay in the chambers alone. You can't be here." A gentle voice said.
"I can't leave her alone." Leon's voice pushed back.
"Unless you can survive a blast of Celestial energy of these magnitudes, I suggest you get out of here." Another voice said again. This voice was different. It was deeper and rougher. There was silence and then...
"Fine," Leon said. "Just make sure she survives." Survive. She was gonna survive... That was all she had done all her life. But this pain...who could survive this pain? Who would want to keep on...
"Shh! My darling girl. I know it hurts. I know it hurts...but you can let go, now." the gentle voice said. "You can let go of the pain.." Pain. What pain was she talking about... there was a lot of pain that Sam was feeling. She didn't want to feel it anymore. She wanted peace...she wanted the darkness to swallow her up and take her away. "Let go." Another spasm of pain but Sam didn't feel it this time. She didn't feel it because she was feeling something else. Your life is what you make of it. But letting fear dictate your actions isn't the answer. Dr. Dingle had told her. Was she right? Was she... Had she allowed her fears to hinder her all her life. Used it as some excuse to be able to not form tangible relationship. Sam thought of her relationship with her aunt, with Henry, and then Rosa. All three relationships that she had managed to gain were weak broken things that Sam had barely made any effort in protecting. She had nothing in her life, nothing worth fighting for..... No....Sam wanted to fight. She wanted to keep living. She didn't want to die. If there's one thing Sam wanted most of all in life, it would be to leave behind a big impact, an impression upon the world that would validate her existence. And that was something she hadn't done yet.
"That's it, Sam. Let it all out." the voice whispered to her. Let it all out. And she did. Sam let it all out...her anger...her pain...the sadness... And then she was struck by another blackout.
-
Thunder roared through the field. There was the smell of shit, followed by the smell of death, a pungent necrotic smell that made one's throat burn with acidic taste. Bodies were everywhere. Bodies that she recognized.... bodies that had followed her into this bloodbath that was known as war. There was always conflict. Always war no matter what era that passed by. And there would always be conflict as long as life persisted. For what is life without the struggle? That constant need for survival. The need to keep on persevering. And what better way to persevere than to fight? To suffer and grow and keep on living. That was what she was doing. That was what she was doing amongst the bodies of her fellow kindred. She pushed a body out of her way, her eyes landing on the first glimpse of the light. Yes...It was there. The path to her survival. She pushed against more bodies, she pushed against the smell, against the coldness, knowing that if she didn't...if she didn't, she would fall...towards the darkness below her....she would drown within it and then she would have to wait for another hundred years. So she fought with all her soul... she was tired...she wanted to give up.....but she didn't. She kept on pushing herself...towards that light...towards what would be her salvation... Darkness filled her sight, the scenery before her changed, and then there was just the darkness.
Sam could hear voices whispering, whispering about her, familiar voices mixed with strange ones. She struggled to open her eyes, for a minute she was within glaring darkness, and after a minute passed, the darkness cleared away and she woke up to the inside of what looked to be a hospital room. The room was large, she lay on what looked to be a hospital bed. Devices were beside her, a monitor telegraphing what looked to be symbols. There was an infusion drip line stuck to her hand, pumping in a strange whitish liquid. There was a ringing noise inside her head though it was getting quiet. She looked around the room. Where was she? What happened? Sam felt like she had woken up from a long nightmare. And there was something she was supposed to remember but the memory was gone..... all she could remember was the pain. Though the pain was gone, she would never forget it. The voices whispering outside stopped and the door opened, and a strange-looking man entered the room. He was tall with silver-white hair and grey eyes, bronze skin that seemed to be framed with a strong build. What was most defining about his appearance was how youthful he looked. Maybe the same age as her. If she didn't know better, she would think that he was in the late stages of his adolescent age but there was also a feeling of him being timeless. Like the passage of time was something that didn't belong to him. That was the aura that surrounded him. He wore a long white-sleeved shirt and black pants.
"Hello, Samantha." He said. His voice sounded whimsical, a touch of mischief laid within it.
"Hi," She mumbled. "Where am I? What happened?"
"I'm Adonis Yesh, and you're in a hospital facility." Adonis said. "You blacked out in the Echo field and Leon bought you here."
"I blacked out. Why what happened to me," Sam said. She felt tired and sore, like her body had been torn apart and put back together in a different state. "Urgh! My body feels like it's been torn apart and glued together,"
"That's what Awakening normally feels like," Adonis said with a smile.
"Awakening," Sam said.
"The Awakening of your soul core," Adonis said. "The amount of energy contained within your awakening was unlike anything I had seen...The strength of your core is astounding. Hmm Normally only Pleiadians should be able to awaken such strong spiritual power..."
"Wait...You're saying too much too fast." Sam said trying to keep up with what he was saying. She couldn't understand what he was talking about...Sam had to catch her breath. Adonis sighed and pushed the monitor to her face. Her reflection was staring right at her, making her freeze. Sam's anxiety didn't want her to see her reflection but something made her look. Sam's skin was still a lighter shade of brown, though it seemed more smooth and soft. There were no blemishes or imperfections on it. What caught her attention was her hair and face. Her hair had turned from brown to bright emerald. Plus, it was also shorter than it was before. Like someone had buzzed it down. Her eyes which had been brown had turned into a shade of emerald. But what was disconcerting was the face that was staring right back at her. Sam was never one to be self-conscious about her appearance or if she was pretty enough, but the appearance that she saw made her very conscious. It was an enthralling appearance, heart-shaped with a natural full lips. It made her seem very otherworldly, so inhuman that she was put off by it.
"What...what happened to my hair..." Sam said, turning her attention to it instead.
"The awakening of your soul released too much energy...more energy than I've ever dealt with before," Adonis said, pulling the monitor away from her. "Normally one goes through the Awakening at a young age...nine or ten but you...For some reason, your awakening came late. You had a lot of excess energy that had to be released. The energy loss made you lose your hair entirely."
"I...I lost my entire hair." Sam said. But her hair looked like weeks had passed after one cut it. "How many days has it been since I lost consciousness."
"It's been more than two weeks since you lost consciousness, "Adonis said. "I have to say your recovery speed is also quite astounding." He looked astounded by the data he was reading from the monitor. "Better than Leon's by far." Two weeks. Just two weeks. Calm down, Sam. You can deal with this. You've been trained... Memories of Dad's training, when he took her camping, surfaced back to her. All those memories...all of them she had forgotten. Why? Why did she forget them? After Dad's death, she had forgotten them... But why? Wait... Had she suppressed them out of guilt? Sam expected her anxiety to return or to attack her but she felt nothing but a pit of calmness within her heart.
"So I'm a Mystic like Rosa," Sam said.
"Sorry but you're not. You're more like Leon. An Ascendant," Adonis said.
"Ascendant," Sam said.
"An Ascendant Mystic," Adonis said.
"What's the difference," Sam said.
"Regular Mystic like Rosa are mortals." Adonis explained. "They lack one essential factor which is a soul core. Without a soul core, they can not grow beyond their mortal shell. They are limited by it. Ascendants on the other hand like you and Leon can grow beyond your current state. You are capable of cultivating your physical, mental and spiritual strength in order to ascend upon a path towards what all living things desire,"
"And what is that?" Sam said.
"Immortality," Adonis said. Sam widened her eyes from what Adonis had said. Immortality. What an absurd concept. Sam had a lot to think about, especially after discovering so many things about the world and universe she lived in.
"I know it's a lot to take in. So why don't you rest for a while? Then, tomorrow, we can begin our discussion. Is that alright." Adonis asked. Sam nodded, feeling tired and wanting to close her eyes. She could feel a pounding in her head that she needed to cool off.
