Chapter 4: Chapter 4: The Mutated Six-Meter Rooster
A night passed, and another four or five days went by in the steel ball world. At this time, it was daytime inside, and many plants had already grown, creating a lush green landscape. The small world now had air, and the scattering of sunlight made the sky start to turn blue, with some dark clouds hinting at the possibility of rain. Although the world was small, the accumulation of water vapor could still lead to rain when encountering cold air, just on a smaller scale. The small world was becoming more and more complete.
Then, Fang Yuan tried placing a chick into the steel ball world. After observing for more than an hour, he found that the chick, which might have initially been unaccustomed to the gravity, gradually started looking for food. "It didn't die, amazing! The steel ball world is finally suitable for living creatures!" Fang Yuan was overjoyed and hurriedly placed all the chicks into the steel ball world, then patiently observed.
After a day, five days had passed in the steel ball world. During these five days, the steel ball world experienced a rain, and only about ten chicks remained alive. Fang Yuan almost wanted to strangle himself. He had accounted for everything but forgot to build a shelter for the chicks. Although the chicks could barely forage for food on their own, getting drenched by the rain for a night was tough for them. Moreover, the bodies of the earthworms had almost completely decomposed, and the chicks started eating the roots and stems of the plants. They couldn't be expected to be all-purpose caretakers, could they?
Fang Yuan's goal was to create a truly self-sufficient world in the steel ball world, so he decided not to build shelters for the chicks and let them fend for themselves. The essence gained from the death of the chicks was surprisingly similar to that from the death of a few earthworms. Fang Yuan was suddenly unsettled. It seemed that the size of the living creature was not the determining factor for the amount of essence gained upon death.
Fang Yuan recorded all this and thought about what creatures reproduced quickly and could provide him with essence. To provide essence quickly, they needed to be numerous and have a short lifespan. He searched online and finally decided to choose bees, as they seemed to be the most suitable for the steel ball world for now.
So, he drove to the flower and bird market, bought many flower seeds to scatter in the steel ball world, and then bought ten boxes of bees at once, spending two thousand yuan.
Chapter 4: The Mutated Six-Meter Rooster
A night passed, and four or five days went by within the steel ball world. It was daytime inside; many plants had already sprouted, creating a lush green landscape. The small world now had air, and sunlight scattered, turning the sky blue. Faint clouds were visible, suggesting an impending rain.
Though small, the world still experienced rain due to the accumulation of water vapor meeting cold air. The scale was simply too small.
The small world was becoming increasingly complete.
Fang Yuan then attempted to introduce a chick into the steel ball world. After observing for over an hour, he found that aside from initial discomfort possibly due to gravitational differences, the chick gradually began searching for food.
"It didn't die! Amazing! The steel ball world is finally suitable for creature survival!"
Fang Yuan rejoiced, quickly placing all the chicks inside and patiently observing them.
A whole day passed—equivalent to five days within the steel ball world. During this time, it rained, and all but a dozen chicks perished.
Fang Yuan nearly wanted to strangle himself. He had accounted for everything except providing shelter for the chicks.
While the chicks could manage to forage independently, being drenched all night was too much for all but a few. The earthworm corpses were almost completely decayed, and the remaining chicks began eating roots and stems of plants. He couldn't possibly act as their all-around caretaker.
Fang Yuan's goal was to create a truly self-sufficient world within the steel ball, so he decided against building shelters, leaving the chicks to fend for themselves.
The source energy gained from the dead chicks was surprisingly similar to that obtained from several earthworms. Fang Yuan was taken aback.
It seemed that the size of the creature wasn't the sole determinant of the amount of source energy obtained after death.
Fang Yuan recorded all this, pondering which creature reproduced quickly and provided him with source energy rapidly.
To quickly provide source energy, the creature needed to be numerous and have a short lifespan.
After an online search, he decided on bees as the most suitable option for the steel ball world.
He drove to a flower and bird market, bought numerous flower seeds to scatter in the steel ball world, and then purchased ten boxes of bees for two thousand yuan. He wasn't sure if he'd made a loss, but each box contained a queen bee, ensuring reproduction.
After introducing the beehives, many bees initially died due to the unsuitable environment and lack of food. The dead bees, however, provided a single drop of source energy to the steel ball world.
The next day (ten days in the steel ball world), two boxes of bees were almost completely wiped out, including the queen bees. A large number of bees in the remaining hives also died.
Two more boxes perished on the third day. On the fourth day, various wildflowers bloomed, and deaths ceased.
However, on the fifth day, another rain killed two more boxes of bees. With the queen bees dead, those boxes were essentially useless.
Only four boxes remained, with only a few dozen ordinary bees in each—a pitiful sight.
However, after fully adapting to the environment, the four remaining boxes finally stopped experiencing mass deaths.
Ten days later (a total of fifteen days within the steel ball world), the wildflowers withered, their seeds falling and sprouting, covering the entire island within the steel ball.
The four remaining bee boxes began to thrive; with enough nectar, each box now contained thousands of bees.
The accumulated source energy from the dead bees amounted to two additional drops, bringing the total to three.
Fang Yuan immediately used two drops to create a moon. The steel ball world was now considered preliminarily complete, though seasons were absent.
It's worth noting that despite over fifteen days passing within the steel ball, six of the original chicks were still alive and had fully matured.
Fang Yuan ignored them, leaving them to their fate, as they wouldn't provide much source energy.
Over the past half-month, Fang Yuan discovered that as the steel ball world improved, it seemed to reciprocate with a special force, strengthening his body.
In that time, his physical strength increased significantly; he could easily lift fifty kilograms with one hand, and the improvement continued, albeit slowly.
His nearsightedness had also vanished.
This delighted Fang Yuan, boosting his motivation. At this rate, if the steel ball world became larger and more complete, would he become superhuman?
Unfortunately, the source energy accumulation was excruciatingly slow.
"To rapidly expand the world, I need to buy more earthworms, but I don't have much money left. I need to find a way to earn some."
The honey from the steel ball world was starting to be produced, but wouldn't sell for much.
"Right, the steel ball world's source energy can improve and expand the world; I wonder if it has other uses?"
Source energy sounded like something valuable, even though it was a name he himself had coined.
With this in mind, he used a chicken from the steel ball world for an experiment, injecting the remaining drop of source energy into a chick.
The chick had been pecking at passing bees. After the injection, it suddenly froze, then violently trembled and collapsed.
"Did it just die?" Fang Yuan was astonished, but through his connection to the steel ball world, he knew that even if the chick died, the source energy would simply return to the source energy space, not be wasted, so he wasn't concerned.
He didn't mind losing a chick; he could always eat the meat later.
However, the chick trembled but remained alive.
After about a minute, the chick's body began to inflate, accompanied by its distressed clucking.
To Fang Yuan's astonishment, the chick rapidly grew larger. Its feathers turned purplish-red, and its tail turned green.
"Cluck, cluck, cluck…" The chick cried out continuously, possibly from the intense pain of its rapidly expanding body. It thrashed on the ground, its growing size granting it increasing strength, digging a large pit in the ground.
After a few minutes, the chick stopped growing, and its cries ceased. It was now over three and a half meters tall, even when lying down. Its comb was almost entirely purple, its feathers bright red, and its tail completely green.
A few seconds later, the dazed chick stood up. Its back reached five meters, its head over six, and its eyes reflected emotional fluctuations, as if contemplating what had just happened.
Suddenly, the chick flapped its wings, creating a strong gust of wind that sent a nearby beehive flying, scattering flowers and plants into the air.
"Holy crap…"
Outside, Fang Yuan was dumbfounded. "Did I just go too far…?"
A single drop of source energy had transformed the chick into a behemoth, something Fang Yuan hadn't anticipated.
But then, he was delighted. Such a large chicken would be incredibly valuable if sold.
However, seeing how the chicken had blown away a beehive several meters away with a single flap of its wings, Fang Yuan realized he probably couldn't defeat it.
"Should I kill it and sell the meat?" Fang Yuan muttered.
But he quickly realized he still couldn't defeat the monstrous chicken.
