Chapter 125: Chapter 124 - The Dark Side of the Magical World 02.
[Chapter Size: 1900 Words.]
Third Person POV
London.
...
...
Many families were gathering at this moment, after their children had returned from their classes at Hogwarts; it was time to go over a few points with them.
More and more meetings were taking place between parents and their children, as discussions began to arise about their school performance. Some parents offered congratulations, others remained neutral, seeing that their children had done no more than their duty. But a few wore stern expressions, not just because of grades—though perhaps these were not the real issue—but because, in the case of pure-blood families, the problem lay with a certain Slytherin student.
Many nobles were dissatisfied with their children's performance, as they had been humiliated by a half-blood. This dissatisfaction extended beyond the Norton family; many other powerful families with students in Slytherin who had suffered at the hands of Snape were also quite displeased.
One such family was the Rosier family, which came as no surprise. Mrs. Rosier was currently in a meeting, gathered to discuss the school year and what she expected now from her son, who had already graduated. But as soon as the conversation turned to Severus Snape, the atmosphere became tense.
"How have they not caught that miserable half-blood yet?" the woman said angrily, glaring at the men she had hired. She called them over as they handed in their investigation reports, and for the fourth time, she found herself with nothing. She dismissed these incompetent men as they continually brought news that displeased her. None of those she had designated to investigate Snape had managed to capture him, as he always managed to escape. She constantly called them incompetent.
"My lady, we don't know where he is. He simply vanished…" murmured one of the men investigating Snape. Snape kept his tracks hidden and was doing it very well lately, especially knowing that so many enemies would be attempting something against him.
"How can you not find him? He has a registered house with a Muggle, doesn't he? Why haven't you gone there yet?" she complained, while her son, beside her, observed. He was one of the first to suffer at Snape's hands, and now that his mother was involved, he could do nothing, not even express his opinion, whether he agreed with her methods or not.
"I'm sorry, my lady, but he isn't even living there…" murmured the man.
"What do you mean, more excuses? You're incompetent! Perhaps I should get rid of you now," she said angrily, reaching for her wand, startling the man.
"Calm down," an elderly voice spoke up at that moment, as the woman turned toward him.
"Father, you can't let a half-blood tarnish the Rosier name like this and harm your grandson in this way..." she replied.
"I didn't say I would let it happen, Victoria. It just isn't wise to dispose of a family guard or subordinate so easily," he began. "That boy has evaded your grasp the entire year. You're not going to catch him now… If you can't capture him, lure him to you," he said calmly.
"What do you mean by that?" she murmured, until finally, her eyes widened in understanding. "Of course! I just spoke of it! He has a house, a Muggle father… We should use that," she muttered, and her father nodded.
"Exactly," he murmured, pleased with his daughter's realization.
"Mother, I heard from Lucius that Snape and his father weren't very close. This was talked about among students, and they came to the conclusion that there's no point in doing anything with him…" her son murmured.
"But no one's done it yet. So to hell with the Muggle. Let's simply get rid of this half-blood, regardless of the consequences for us later. After all, the Dark Lord will soon conquer and have all of England at his feet. We and all those who support him will receive great privileges," she said calmly, determined, finding a way to deal with Snape.
Another family discussing matters at that moment was the Nott family, which suddenly received a letter from the Black family while one member retrieved the letter as the others were engaged in an important meeting.
He took the letter and opened it right there after taking it from the owl's leg.
"This..." he murmured, opening the letter to see its contents.
"Is something wrong, Cedric?" Joan, his sister, asked as she approached.
"We need to speak with Father now. Something serious has happened," he said in a serious tone.
"So serious that it warrants interrupting him while he's discussing Lucas's condition with our older brothers?" his sister asked.
"Yes, we need to find him now," he replied, still determined, as he headed toward a closed room. When he opened the door, he found three people talking: his two older brothers along with their father. Lucas Nott's mother was there as well, with a furious expression, still suffering after finding her son tortured at Hogwarts.
"Something wrong, Cedric?" the patriarch asked.
"Yes, Father, I received this from the Black family," he said as he handed over the letter. The old man read it calmly, but soon narrowed his eyes, incredulous at what he was reading.
"Why are they doing this now, of all times?" he murmured, unable to believe it.
"What is it, Father?" the eldest daughter asked, though with a cold tone, showing no emotion.
"The Blacks have canceled our deal for the shop they were selling in Diagon Alley..." he said.
"What? Why would they do something like that?" his eldest son exclaimed, surprised, raising his voice.
"I don't know, but I intend to see Astraea to discuss this change and understand it. After all, we had even arranged an engagement between her granddaughter and my grandson," he said with a displeased tone, keeping his frustration hidden from the other family members.
"What's going on now? First, Lucas is tortured at school, and now the Blacks are canceling our sale? Is that why it was in the paper that those magical degenerates went to their house? Damn it! They can't possibly be disrespecting us like this," the eldest son exclaimed.
"Set that aside for now. Let's focus on Lucas's situation and figure out who could have done this," his father replied, though he didn't forget that he would deal with the Blacks soon.
"Are you certain the one who did this to Lucas has anything to do with that Geronimo who was harmed? Perhaps we should go after him," the woman suggested with venom in her voice, while the other brothers, who had just arrived, remained silent in a corner.
"Perhaps. That's why we're going to investigate further," the father replied. "I want you to focus on Lucas's recovery. It's time to bring him to the Death Eaters to be trained. Meanwhile, we'll also ask for their help in discovering who did this," he said in a harsh tone.
"Maybe it was that Snape," his son commented. He knew well of the enmity between them and suspected that Snape could be the main culprit, as he was the one who reported Lucas and the others in the matter involving that young nobleman, as far as they knew.
"I think it was him too, and I tried to get the Ministry to investigate, but they refused due to the incident with the Auror. Maybe we should act on our own," the woman suggested.
"Yes... the Minister of Magic seems to protect him for some reason," the man added.
"Yes, there are people who are enemies of that boy. Perhaps they know where he is, so we can settle the score he left with my grandson," he said in a harsh tone.
Meanwhile, elsewhere, Snape was also the subject of discussion within a certain family with whom he shared blood. The now small and privileged Prince family was gathered, consisting only of two brothers in a room. Although both had been married for over 20 years, neither had managed to have children. This cast a shadow over their relationship and the family, as there were no heirs in sight. However, both remained undeterred and continued to be active in the political world. The younger brother held a significant position in the Ministry, while the elder took care of the family.
"So, they're not going to investigate Eileen's son?" the elder brother asked, as a young woman shook her head.
"No, not after what happened. The Ministry is afraid. The case involving Snape being attacked by an Auror, if made public, could damage the institution, and the Minister himself doesn't believe he's guilty, claiming it's absurd how people accuse him of things that a student shouldn't even be capable of doing."
"It's strange… how has he changed so much? I've heard his appearance has changed, but his talents have skyrocketed. His magic is extremely strong. Stronger than any other student at Hogwarts—he's surpassed even Eileen in that regard. Why did he suddenly become so powerful?" the elder Prince brother asked, feeling a touch of anger. The frustration of not having a son and heir left him bitter, unwilling to accept that this might be a curse.
The conversation continued for some time, with the main topic remaining Eileen's son.
"What are we going to do about him?" the younger brother asked.
"Isn't it obvious? We must deal with him. He's a threat, as he could destroy all of us," the elder brother replied firmly. Both agreed that Snape needed to be stopped before he became more influential and started to threaten the great Prince name, especially since he did not carry the Prince name and was born to a Muggle.
Elsewhere on the property, an older man opened his eyes at that moment. He was Eileen's uncle and her brothers' as well. He shook his head in disappointment.
"Would they really lower themselves this much? Would my brother even recognize them if he knew what they wished for his precious daughter?" the man murmured, thinking of his nephews and pondering what he should do after overhearing the conversation without their knowledge.
He, too, was part of the Prince family, though not in the main line, and he had chosen never to have children or marry. Instead, he had always supported his brother throughout his life. He had been very fond of Eileen and felt deeply touched by what happened, though he hadn't known the details surrounding her death until recently.
Now, even though he knew what had happened, he was very old, just as his brother had been before he passed. Only a few years ago, he had learned of the events following Eileen's death, but, being distant, he hadn't had the courage to approach Snape after attending his mother's funeral, feeling ashamed of himself. Now, seeing his nephews planning to hunt down Eileen's son, he made a decision as he moved a quill toward a parchment.
He wrote a few things on that paper before sending the letter without anyone knowing where, watching as the owl disappeared into the night.
