Hunter x Hunter : Germain Joins The Hunt

Chapter 233: Chapter 221 : Herb's Effect!!

He currently had two "negative traits": one was a "kleptomania," and the other was "Terrible Gambler."

After weighing the pros and cons, he decided to eliminate the "kleptomania," the one that had been with him the longest.

This time, Abengane's "Nen Exorcism" was more difficult and time-consuming than expected, but in the end, the "kleptomania" was removed.

He wiped the sweat from his forehead and explained:

"In this case, it's likely because this 'curse' has been with you for so long, deeply rooted, but it can ultimately be resolved."

"Thank you for the reminder." Germain, of course, knew that Abengane was subtly advising him to clear his "negative traits" in time.

Germain would remember this sensible advice.

After he and Shizuku walked out of the "treatment room," they headed down a spiral staircase for a while. Suddenly, he called out to Shizuku.

"Stay here, don't move."

"Does that mean I can't move at all?" Shizuku asked, standing against the wall in cooperation.

"Yes."

Germain looked at Shizuku in front of him, slowly relaxing his body and mind, not thinking about guarding against "kleptomania." After a while, he blinked and looked at his hands.

Nothing was there.

He checked his pockets again to confirm he hadn't stolen anything from Shizuku, and then said, "Alright, you can move now."

Once Shizuku was able to move, she stretched as if she'd been frozen for a long time. "Is this some kind of game?"

"Yes." Germain replied. He searched his pants pocket for a moment, pulled out a prepared die, and showed it to Shizuku. "Let's have a contest."

He gently tossed the die, and it bounced on the stairs a few times before landing on a flat surface below.

Shizuku blinked her big eyes. "What are the rules of this game? After we made eye contact just now, the first one to move throws the dice?"

"Mm, mm, mm," Germain nodded, then leaned over to take a look. It was a two. He was sure he had lost, but still handed the dice to Shizuku.

Shizuku placed the dice in her palm, then clasped her hands together, shaking it like a cup. She blew a breath between her fingers, then threw it out.

It was a three.

Germain glanced sideways at Shizuku.

He had "Terrible Gambler," but this girl... she was just plain unlucky, a big fat sheep in the casino.

"Did I win?" Shizuku asked.

"Yes, you won."

Shizuku expressionlessly picked up the dice, treating it as a trophy, and stuffed it into her jeans pocket.

The two walked into the "research institute," which was dimly lit. The only light came from the area around the experiment table where Sanbica was standing.

It wasn't that Sanbica was trying to be mysterious; it was just that she could concentrate better in the dim environment.

Right now, the 77 "Herb for All-illnesses" plants brought back by Germain's team were inside the "research institute." Sanbica was in charge of researching and testing what diseases the "Herb for All-illnesses" could treat.

Originally, there were 108 plants. One was used to help Germain, who had been unconscious, and 30 were left with Ging, who was stationed at the "Ancient Labyrinth," leaving 77.

Although the "Eastern Volume of the New World Chronicle" had already listed all the diseases that the herb could cure, it was based on the conclusions of Don Freecss.

Sanbica needed to figure out if the herb was truly effective against those diseases, if it could work on other conditions, and how it interacted with other medications.

Could the "Herb for All-illnesses" be cultivated? If they identified the real medicinal part of it, could other medicinal combinations replace it?

There were many questions to answer.

Wearing a mask, she was so focused that when Germain called her name, she was startled.

When Sanbica saw Germain and Shizuku, she didn't relax. Instead, she shrank back like a small animal, lowering her head and not daring to meet their gaze.

"You… you two…" After a few months of getting to know them, Sanbica was at least willing to talk to them. She nervously shifted on her feet, "Do you… need something?"

Germain wasn't here to observe the "Herb for All-illnesses" research process. "I want to try the effects of one "Herb for All-illnesses" myself."

Sanbica looked up at him for a moment, then lowered her head again, speaking in a quiet voice, "Is it because of… tetanus?"

Germain froze for a second, then realized how Sanbica knew about his tetanus, which he had gotten from the "Vows and Limitations" tied to the "Teleportation Lantern."

With tetanus, Germain's attack accuracy and critical hit rate would be reduced.

The reason Sanbica knew about tetanus was because of her "Specialization Nen Ability: Physical Exam and Hospital Records."

After Germain returned, she immediately did a "check-up" on him and found out from his "medical records" that he had tetanus.

The medical records also showed that his tetanus was in the incubation stage and didn't have obvious symptoms yet.

However, as a Virus Hunter, Sanbica had already planned out a treatment and care plan for Germain over the next period.

But now that Germain had proposed "testing the medicine on himself," Sanbica hesitated for two seconds and then softly opposed.

"In the 'New World Chronicles: Eastern Volume Fragment'… there is a record about curing tetanus… but… it's too risky…"

Despite her social anxiety, she was very firm when it came to treating patients.

For the "Herb for All-illnesses," she wanted to test it on animals first before using it on humans.

She always viewed the two- or three-hundred-year-old records written by Don Freecss with skepticism.

However, Germain also had his own convictions.

"I don't think there will be any side effects. The answer lies within me. Before returning to 'Greed Island,' I took one 'Herb for All-illnesses.'"

"After returning to 'Greed Island,' you used the 'Physical Check and Medical Record' to examine my body. You should have found no other issues apart from 'Tetanus,' right?"

"As for the 'Tetanus,' that's the price for using the 'Teleporting Lantern,' not the effect of the 'Herb for All-illnesses.'"

"I think it's completely fine to take one 'Herb for All-illnesses' and directly test whether it can cure the 'Tetanus' inside me."

Indeed, Sanbica had failed to detect any abnormalities with her Nen ability at the time.

Germain's medical records showed that his physical condition was astonishingly good. He hardly seemed human; he looked more like a monster, honed through countless trials…

Aside from 'Tetanus,' the records listed only old scars and muscle damage, all of which were quite normal for any person.

Even if there was a disease that Sanbica didn't understand, it would have been marked in the records, drawing her attention. However, there was no such marking in Germain's medical records.

Aside from "tetanus," Germain is a very healthy person.

In the end, Sanbica was persuaded by Germain.

Germain drank the "Sanbica's Herbal Tonic." Aside from a pleasant fragrance in his mouth, he felt a warm sensation flowing through his body, which calmed down after a while.

He used his "Hunter's Badge" to check his condition, and Sanbica used the "Medical Record." Both of them soon realized that the "tetanus" had disappeared.

The "Herb for All-illnesses" really worked, and it took effect immediately.

Sanbica, who had been wearing a mask and already had difficulty breathing, now struggled even more due to her excitement.

She knew better than anyone how the "Herb for All-illnesses" would bring a huge revolution to the medical field and how it would benefit countless patients.

Now, all their "hope" was in this room.

Although Germain seemed fine and the "Medical Record" showed no issues, Sanbica insisted that he tell her immediately if he felt unwell.

Germain agreed. Afterward, he went out with Shizuku, leaving the "research lab" to Sanbica.

After lunch, it was time for the meeting with everyone from "Greed Island."
