Chapter 4: Épisode 4: Training
Ren awoke before dawn, a strange feeling of joy and determination ingrained in his mind. The day before, he had had his first real test in the field, and while the victory was sweet, it had also shown him how far he still had to go. He knew he had to push himself to the limit, not only to prove himself worthy of his place in the Shards of Nexus, but also to prepare himself to face real competitors in the upcoming regional competitions.
He jumped out of bed and made his way to the training room of the complex, still shrouded in darkness. The blue light of the hologram screens cast strange shadows on the walls as he adjusted his gloves and helmet, preparing for another day of training. Lyra had told him that the real challenges began now, that it was no longer just about jumping higher or running faster, but about mastering every aspect of his exoskeleton and understanding the environment in which he was evolving.
The simulation arena stretched out before him, a gigantic space that was constantly changing. Obstacles appeared and disappeared at breakneck speed, while artificially generated holograms of opponents moved with impressive fluidity. Ren watched the scene seriously.
Lyra appeared behind him, arms crossed.
Lyra: " Congratulations on your victory yesterday, but you still have a long way to go because they weren't even at 50%. Today, you're going to train on three essential aspects: speed, strategy, and control. You're going to have to use your exoskeleton to exploit the environment to your advantage, while anticipating your opponents' movements. You can't just be fast. It won't be enough against the best. "
Ren: " I understand "
Lyra:" Good. Then let's begin."
Lyra activated the simulator.
----
The first test was the easiest, at least in appearance. Ren had to run on a winding course, strewn with moving obstacles that appeared at a crazy speed. Walls, giant trampolines, floating platforms… Each obstacle was a test in itself.
Each time he crossed one of them, another one appeared almost instantly, forcing Ren to adapt to flight. He activated the propulsion of his exoskeleton to the maximum, helping him to cross the incredible distances between each platform. He concentrated on his movements, on the way his body interacted with the equipment.
Each jump became more precise, each turn more controlled. He dodged the obstacles like a ghost, darting through the air with a new agility. But at the end of the course, he stumbled and fell facing a simultaneous chain of obstacles. He realized something. Although he executed each movement with perfect precision, he had failed to anticipate and be focused. A sigh of irritation passed his lips. Speed alone was not enough indeed. Lyra, watching from the control screens, gave him an approving look.
Lyra : " You are improving. But you have to think differently. Every move counts, and you have to be able to predict what is going to happen. It is not just a question of speed. It is also a question of strategy and concentration "
Ren (scowled ): " I will improve "
