Chapter 83: Boom!

Fortunately, Milo didn't miss his shot detonating the granade with the bullet. It might seem impossible but with the high piercing power of bullet, he was able to create the chain reaction enough to cause the much needed distraction.

Cyra who was on the other side of the forest knew it was time for her to make her move. The two legged green monsters were already converging at the location of the explosion which did thin out their numbers on the side she was in.

She just prayed that Milo could not escape as the situation didn't look good. But she couldn't do anything, she needed to cross their territory and hopefully contact him through the radio to see if he was alright. For now, she focused on weaving through the forest to reach their real enemy's base!

Meanwhile, Milo only watched the array of explosion for few seconds. One or two explosives might not be enough but because he had planted it so that they would go off creating a chain reaction and he also did it along the busy road, he knew there would be at least dozens or so injuries and maybe few of them have died due to their proximity to the blast zone.

He didn't have the luxury to look at the results. Using the chaos, Milo started retreating back as fast as he could. He was not an expert like Cyra who was able to jump from one branch to another like forest elf but he was giving his best.

He knew he was too close to their main base. A disturbance at the edge of their territory wouldn't illicit same reaction if it happened so close to their settlement.

His location make it easier for him to get surrounded. He could hear their strange voices as they yelled and screamed probably someone giving orders or they were already hot on his trails.

He sneaked back a look while resting. Using the scope of the rifle he saw a large army of green monsters wearing makeshift armour with some crude weapons in their hand.

They were very professional like they were masters at finding people in the forest. This was the second time Milo felt that these variety of monster were really to close to humans, so close that it made him uncomfortable.

What surprised Milo was the one leading the small army. A big monster with bulging muscles that were even visible through it's scaled black armour. The wide sword hanging from his back was half the size of it's body but it didn't seem to affect it's movement.

It was twice as big as other fellow monster and the look of anger and hatred on it's face was enough to make other monster submissive in front of it.

Milo' thought immediately went to the Alpha Canis that Noah fought yesterday. There was no comparison between normal species and the special ones and since these monsters might have low base value than Canis but high overall stats when their intelligence was factored in, he knew any mutated version among them would be strong maybe even stronger than Alpha Canis!

" The whole forest is a death trap. I don't know how the enemy even manage to pass through the forest to target out village." Milo mumbled. He felt like with the lack of hunting due to their dispute with Merchant guild, the monsters had a golden period of development making the place even more dangerous.

Sablethorn must have some unique way to sneak so many people through the deadly forest. If they could get a hold on it, it might get easier for villagers to travel through the forest in the future.

As he was lost in thought, he kept mumbling but what he didn't expect was his tiny voice in was immediately picked up the large humanoid monster. It's sense of hearing seemed insane.

Milo who was looking at them absent mindedly only saw the monster sheath out his sword then taking on a weird pose before it's hand moved in blurred motion.

Milo didn't know what the monster was trying to do but seeing the sword vanish, Milo knew something was extremely wrong. It's not like he had time to react, his flow of thoughts all happened within few micro second as he ducked unconsciously.

The ginormous sword whizzed past the place where his head was in, it went flying hitting the tree behind him piercing it leaving a gaping hole but it wasn't the end.

The almost blunt and bulky weapon kept going through vegetation then targetting another tree behind it doing the exact same thing finally stopping after penetrating the third tree with half it's body.

If not for his high perception, Milo's head would have been split in half and he would have died instantly.

Cyra warned him countless times that these monsters liked to take prisoners of war but their first attack on as so deadly that he wouldn't even feel a ounce of pain!

He immediately ran away knowing they would be coming here to retrieve the weapon. Milo masked his steps carefully knowing the strange monster seemed to posses impressive hearing.

Maybe it was the weird black helmet that it was wearing, either way he didn't want to stay at the place for a second.

Despite acting brave to take up such a dangerous mission, he finally realised what the fear of coming close to death was. He might not want to admit it but he didn't want to die even if it made him a coward.

Because he was overthinking things, whenever he would step on branch with heavy foot he would feel the persuers direction change as they would catch up to his recent location.

Milo didn't stop to rest pushing himself to the limit trying to bide as time as possible for Cyra. Even he couldn't see her facing a monster of this calibre, of there were more of them inside the village it would almost be impossible to win with just two of them!

Fortunately, aside the close call Milo's resilient push made it possible for him to get out of their area of influence. Now there was less chance for them to follow him this way, at least that's what he wished for.
