I am Humanity's Last Hope?

Chapter 3: Chapter 3 - Campione

Adam Victory was awakened by the gentle touch of someone caressing his head.

He then opened his eyes and saw all around him.

All he saw was gray, a gray space stretching beyond the horizon. A feeling of loneliness and emptiness permeated the place.

It was then that Adam realized his head was resting on something and looked to see what it was.

Above him, there was a young girl who seemed to be between fifteen and fourteen years old. She had purple hair tied in two ponytails.

Her fully purple hair would make her stand out in the crowd. Her small face was cute and filled with innocence.

She wore a completely white dress that covered her very slender body.

"Who are you?"

Despite the question, Adam knew who she was.

Pandora, the legendary woman who received a magical box containing all the world's evils as well as hope, and opened it out of curiosity. She was married to the titan Epimetheus, brother of Prometheus. All Campiones would be her foster children and her husband's illegitimate children.

She possessed an item called the [Circle of Usurpation] that allowed her to perform the ritual that created Campiones, but the cost was the sacrifice of a God.

Pandora looked at Adam with a seductive smile that did not match her childlike face.

"I am Pandora, your mother, as for this place... it wouldn't matter to say since you'll forget it anyway. But well-"

"This is the 'Boundary of Life and Immortality,' according to Greek occultism it is the 'World of Thoughts,' as per Persian occult it is the 'World of Mind.'"

"Congratulations! You did something no mortal should be able to do. You defied the laws of reality and common sense to kill a heretical God! That's why you're here to become my Child! Come, call me mother!"

Adam just observed Pandora's expectant gaze but turned his face away.

Pandora just pouted.

"Anyway, it won't be long before you know everything, and when you come here next time, you'll know."

She certainly didn't have the majesty of a Goddess, she seemed more like a high school girl.

Soon she showed a sad expression.

"... This is already the sixth Godslayer born in this Era... Soon the Strongest [Steel] will awaken from his slumber..."

"My youngest child, your luck is a bit bad. You won't be able to enjoy everything this great feat of killing a God brought you."

"Soon you will face the One who Manifests at the End of the World."

Adam just remained silent while absorbing what Pandora was saying.

Her words brought him great information, especially about 'The One who Manifests at the End of the World.'

But if he was the Sixth Campione, that meant he had some time to prepare for everything that was to come.

"What do you mean by that?"

"Call me mother... My dear youngest son. You're much more handsome than the previous one, you know?"

Pandora's hand gently stroked Adam's hair. She had a very youthful appearance but exuded a gentle feeling, a maternal feeling of a mother.

Adam just sighed; he just wanted this to be over soon.

"... Mother..."

"Hehe~~ Time is running out, but here's a special reward!"

"By the dark art that Epimetheus and I left behind, this is the sacred birth of an illegitimate child, shrouded in darkness, born of a fool and a witch. A usurpation secret only made possible by the sacrifice of a God."

"I bestow upon you my blessing, so you may be reborn as the new Godslayer, a King among Kings, a Campione."

With that said, Pandora's fingers held Adam's face, and she leaned in, gently kissing his lips to his bewilderment.

At the same time, Pandora's magical ritual was activated!

The magical ritual of the [Circle of Usurpation] began.

...

..

.

When Adam opened his eyes again, he found himself in the same place where he had fallen unconscious earlier.

He was still lying on the ground of an ancient forest that had been destroyed by the Heretical Gods and their attack...

That's right...

The Heretical Gods...

Now, he had reached the heavens, the top of the world.

He had become a Campione.

Another thing he noticed was that he hadn't forgotten anything that happened in the 'Boundary of Life and Immortality.'

He smacked his lips, remembering the warm sensation, a piece of sweetness that still lingered in his mouth.

Adam was completely surprised by Pandora's actions at that moment, but as a determined man, he knew he couldn't accept any loss. He needed to move forward.

So, bravely, he plunged his tongue into Pandora's mouth at that instant, an attempt to thank her for the gift she had given him. He still felt the warmth of that perfumed tongue, and her taste echoed in his mind, a reminder of something that transcended a mere gesture.

"Well, that doesn't matter right now..."

With his eyes closed, Adam was now able to feel something different inside him, a overwhelming power pulsating in his body, eagerly waiting to be released. He concentrated on the power bubbling within him. This power could be divided into two: one from Balor and another from Lugh, instinctively learning the enchantments to use each one of them.

The enchantments play a crucial role in the early journey of a Campione, as they significantly amplify the power of their Authorities. When a Campione is still young or less experienced, he relies on these spells to channel divine energies and perform feats that would be beyond his natural capabilities. These enchantments act as magical amplifiers, allowing the Campione to use his abilities much more effectively, which is essential to face powerful enemies or perform supernatural actions, such as summoning storms, controlling cosmic forces, or even causing large-scale destruction.

When a Campione defeats a God, he acquires one or more Authorities, abilities derived from that God's power. However, the process is not simple or automatic.

The Authority the Campione receives is not an exact copy of the God's power but something shaped by the personality, compatibility, and desires of the victor himself.

That is, two Campiones who kill the same God will not necessarily obtain the same Authority, as this is influenced by several factors beyond the simple action of killing the deity.

For example, Kusanagi Godou, the protagonist of Campione!, obtained the Ten Forms of Verethragna by killing the God Verethragna. This Authority is an ability composed of multiple aspects, reflecting the complex and multifaceted nature of the God himself. The reason Godou obtained this specific Authority is due to his compatibility with Verethragna and the desires of that God. Verethragna wanted his power to be transmitted in a particular way, something that aligned with Godou's wishes and how he dealt with challenges.

This compatibility between the Campione and the defeated God is crucial to determining the form and effectiveness of the acquired Authority. Even if two Campiones kill the same God, the Authorities they acquire may be completely different, because the abilities are largely related to how the Campione connects with the deity and what he seeks to achieve with the power. Therefore, the Authority of a Campione is not just a random ability...

From Lugh, he had acquired five authorities to his surprise, from all his identities that he had manifested, and from Balor, he had only gotten two authorities.

Heretical Gods were complex, it was still confusing for him, but when one of them manifested, it came with the identities associated with it. That was why they rebelled; after all, the good thing was that they could give you authorities from identities associated with them...

Eager to test one of them, Adam took a deep breath and followed his instincts as a Campione, channeling the enchantment through his voice: "O golden sun, O galloping hooves, O chariot, the tracks of the path of the heavens. Come to me for battle and victory, come to me so that all may fall before the shining glory of the sun."

With a calm yet precise movement, he raised his palms as if reaching for the sky. The next moment, a wave of golden light exploded around him, and he shouted the invocation:

"Brilliant Chariot, authority of the Sun! Hear my call!"

The response was immediate. The air around him began to glow with an intense golden hue, and on the horizon, the outline of a huge Greek war chariot began to materialize, emerging from the shimmering lights radiating like a rising sun. The Brilliant Chariot descended from the sky like a golden meteor, its magnificent structure reflecting every ray of light in a dazzling spectacle of beauty. It was an immense chariot, ornamented in shades of gold, with sculpted figures of ancient gods on the sides, a masterpiece of celestial design.

The chariot was pulled by two golden stallions, their manes gleaming like silver under the sun, their hooves resounding on the ground with a metallic and powerful sound. Each step of the steeds seemed like an explosion of light, their hooves leaving golden trails in the air, as if time and space bent around them. They were divine beasts, perfectly aligned with the blazing aura emanating from the Brilliant Chariot of the Sun.

The heat was palpable. As the chariot approached, an aura of golden flames enveloped all its occupants, a flame that did not burn but transformed the space around it into a hell of destruction for any enemy. Adam could feel the heat from the horses and the chariot, but he was unaffected. He reached out towards the vehicle now floating before him, feeling the power of fire, heat, and light around him.

This was one of the [Authorities] he had usurped from Lugh, who had been much associated with Apollo, recognized as the god who drives the chariot carrying the sun across the sky, this authority was created from this myth and was called [Brilliant Chariot of the Sun].

The vehicle is capable of moving at great speed, is highly resistant to damage, and is able to fly, producing an elemental medium on which the chariot and horses can run. However, instead of being tuned to lightning, this Authority is aligned with fire, heat, and light.

The chariot, all its occupants, and the divine beasts pulling it are surrounded by an aura of golden flames that will not harm them but will automatically inflict severe burning damage on any hostile who comes into contact with it. Any flames ignited by this Authority will be particularly difficult to extinguish without bringing more force against them than they contain themselves.

Another ability this Authority possesses is that if he chooses, he can temporarily sacrifice the aspects of heat and fire from the aura to channel all the power of the chariot into light. When this is done, the vehicle emits a light so intense that unprotected mortals will go blind, and even divine enemies will be dazzled, its speed increasing to something infinitely close to light; it should be noted that this puts him under a lot of mental stress and headache.

This authority also possesses several other abilities not directly related to attack. Firstly, while wrapped in its aura, all wounds heal at an accelerated pace. This level of healing is not on par with true regeneration, but it will help stop the bleeding from wounds and make critical injuries less urgent.

Secondly, the solar aura of the chariot will dissipate any shadow-based magic or Authorities it comes into contact with. This effect will not harm the bearer of these powers; it will only provide a defense against them.

Thirdly, during flight, this Authority will provide an atmosphere for those traveling in it, meaning that, in theory, it is possible to use the Brilliant Chariot of the Sun to leave Earth's environment and ascend into orbit. The exact limits of this ability have yet to be determined.

Adam climbed onto the chariot, its flames gently embracing him.

With a fluid gesture, he commanded the chariot to move forward, and in an instant, the vehicle shot forward, spinning and cutting through the air with supernatural speed. The heat around him increased, and the ground beneath his feet seemed to tremble with the force of his advance. The Brilliant Chariot was in full flight, gliding along a path of fire and light, and anyone who dared to stand in its way would be consumed by the fury of the Sun, no longer as a mere deity, but as a manifestation of the indomitable power of celestial fire.

Adam felt the potency of the authority taking over his being; he knew nothing could stop the force he had invoked.

This chariot was not just a means of transport but an extension of his own will — a will that burned with the intensity of the Sun, ready to destroy any enemy that stood in his path.

He was lucky that Lugh had been associated with Apollo enough to assume such a myth, thanks to that, he who had spent years confined to a hospital bed, his life once limited to four white and monotonous walls, now flew through the sky, each gust of wind on his face a reminder that he was finally free.

He was fortunate that Lugh had been sufficiently associated with Apollo to inherit such a myth. Thanks to this, he, who had spent years confined to a hospital bed, his life once limited to four white, monotonous walls, now soared through the sky, each gust of wind on his face a reminder that he was finally free.

The weight of the machines that once kept him alive had been replaced by the lightness of the open sky. He felt his heart pounding, not from the weakness of his body, but from the pure thrill of being alive, of moving by his own will, of challenging the heights.

The endless blue stretched out before him, and for the first time, he understood the true meaning of being free. There were no more limits to where he could go, no more chains to hold him back.

He shouted with joy, an explosion of laughter and tears, as he climbed higher and higher, the sound echoing across the vast sky.

With the beat of his wings, he felt closer to the gods, more powerful, more alive. The sensation of being part of something greater, of mastering what was once unattainable, was intoxicating. It was as if all the pain, fear, and loneliness he had felt during the years of illness were being purged with each gallop of his chariot.

Now, he was not just a survivor; he was a victor, a Campione, and the sky was his.
