I am Thor

Chapter 126: Chapter 126: Fearful Dreams

No matter which world you're in, the most common, wide-ranging, and indiscriminate attack is a sonic assault.

In martial arts, it's the Lion's Roar; in fantasy, it's the Banshee's scream; and in the Marvel Universe, it's Wanda's scream.

Caught off guard, Wanda let out a scream filled with raw emotion. It wasn't just loud—her psychic energy infused it, spreading waves of fear across the battlefield. Scarlet mist billowed from her, covering the area in an instant.

Except for Thor, protected by his mental barrier, everyone within a few miles, friend and foe alike, fell prey to the fear. They all froze, paralyzed by dread. Tony even collapsed on the spot; if not for J.A.R.V.I.S.'s rapid intervention, he might have ended up like a future War Machine.

Natasha found herself in a strange place under a gloomy sky. She could tell immediately this wasn't Earth. The atmosphere felt breathable, and there was water, suggesting it could support life. Yet, everything was deathly silent.

Beside her stood Thor, but he seemed different—darker, somehow. Across from them floated a skeletal figure, his face ghastly, hovering somewhere between life and death.

"Thor Odinson, son of Odin…" it rasped.

"Natasha Romanoff, daughter of Ivan..."

The Red Skull's voice, hoarse and grating, echoed around them. "What you seek is within your grasp, accompanied by your fear. The Soul Stone, revered among the Infinity Stones, possesses its own wisdom. To obtain it, a sacrifice must be made."

"What sacrifice?" Natasha asked, entranced by the illusion.

"A soul. It must be the soul of the one you love most. To acquire the Stone, you must lose what you hold dear. This is an eternal bargain—only by trading souls can one understand its true worth."

Natasha's heart skipped a beat as she turned to Thor, gazing at him tenderly. "I never expected to see your heart so clearly in the end. So, I am your true love… with that, I can die without regret."

She ran toward the cliff and leapt off.

The illusion shattered, leaving Natasha disoriented, a hint of tears in her eyes. She quickly wiped them away, confused. What just happened? Was any of that real?

She woke sooner than most and glanced around. Friend and foe alike were unconscious.

In Hawkeye's illusion, he relived the moment on the helicarrier when he, under Loki's control, fought Thor and was brutally beaten.

Steve, meanwhile, found himself atop a snowy mountain, watching Bucky plummet into the abyss below.

In Hulk's vision, a massive, purple-skinned opponent struck him with brutal precision, each punch shaking him to his core. Hulk tried to fight back, but this enemy overpowered him in strength and skill.

Tony, on the other hand, was standing amidst a ruined battlefield. His armor was battered, nearly falling apart. Around him lay countless superheroes, familiar ones like Hulk and Thor, and others he didn't recognize. As he struggled to make sense of the devastation, an emotionless voice spoke in his ear, "There are no superhumans left in the world."

Suddenly, the world fell silent.

He looked around in horror. Hulk convulsed, shrinking back into Bruce Banner. Thor's lightning powers faded, and he fell from the sky. Captain America, once towering and strong, shrank into a frail, skinny boy. One by one, every superhero reverted to an ordinary mortal. A horse-faced figure with a golden energy sword lost his power, a short-haired woman with radiant energy dimmed, and a blue-skinned warrior dropped his weapons, helpless.

In an instant, everyone but Stark, War Machine, and Falcon—those who relied on technology rather than powers—were reduced to mere mortals.

"No—!"

Stark jolted awake, looking around, his face pale. "What happened?"

J.A.R.V.I.S.'s voice replied, "Sir, a wave of psychic energy spread through the area. Everyone, including you, fell into an illusion."

"Illusions?" Stark breathed a sigh of relief, but a disturbing thought took hold in his mind and wouldn't let go.

What if, one day, all superhuman abilities failed? When that day comes, only technology will be able to protect the Earth.
