Chapter 31: Chapter 31: The Ultimate Promotion
Pietro shot a glare at Carl, who was still smirking. If his sister Wanda wasn't there, he would've punched the smug look off this scumbag's face without hesitation.
With an irritated huff, he stormed out of the private jet's front cabin. Not even the excitement of his new toy could distract him now.
Seeing Carl infuriated Pietro to no end. Choosing to avoid further aggravation, he retreated to the midsection of the plane to cool off and rest.
Once Pietro left, only Carl and Wanda remained in the front cabin.
"I'll handle Pietro's situation," Carl said calmly. "Columbia University won't refuse a ten-million-dollar donation just to enroll a promising student."
As his words hung in the air, their gazes locked. The atmosphere between them shifted, growing increasingly charged with tension.
Whenever they were alone, Wanda seemed insatiable. Her deep blue eyes gradually became misty, full of desire.
Noticing Carl sitting motionless, trying to play dead, she rolled her eyes coquettishly. Taking the initiative, she perched herself on his lap, one arm wrapped around his neck, her soft red lips inching toward his.
Carl felt a cold sweat break out on his forehead. He was running on empty; one more indulgence and he'd collapse like an overworked ox.
Ever since Wanda first tasted forbidden fruit, she'd been growing clingier by the day.
He quickly raised his hands in surrender. "Hold on! I've got serious business to discuss."
Wanda arched a delicate eyebrow, her lips pausing midair. Irritated, she asked, "What could possibly be so important that it can't wait?"
Putting on a serious expression, Carl explained, "I wanted to talk to you about our plan to promote Umbrella's private hospitals.
"Even though we have the miraculous Medpod, a fully automated nano-laser medical platform capable of curing virtually any disease and even extending life, it won't matter if we don't publicize it properly.
"Without trust from the world's elite, they won't come knocking on our door. Even if some middle-tier rich folks are willing to take the risk, the profits won't be maximized. The entire plan would be half as effective.
"That's why we need an ultimate promotion to make Umbrella's private hospitals a household name in one fell swoop."
Hearing his succinct explanation, Wanda's expression grew serious. Despite her playful side, she took her role as the head of the hospitals seriously.
"How do we pull off this 'ultimate promotion'?" Wanda asked.
Carl leaned back, adopting an air of mystery. "Listen closely."
"While our medical platform is practically miraculous, curing diseases and extending lives, there's a particular group in this world that already enjoys immortality."
"Immortality?!" Wanda's eyes widened in shock. "You're saying such creatures actually exist?"
Carl smirked with a hint of disdain. "There's so much you don't know."
Before he could revel in her astonishment, Wanda's embarrassment turned to fury, and she launched a flurry of playful punches at him.
"Fine, fine!" Carl waved his hands defensively. "Let me explain! This messed-up world is full of freaks.
"Earth has everything—mages, superpowered beings, aliens, Inhumans, vampires... even gods, devils, and angels straight out of myths.
"Among them, many of the top elites, unwilling to face death as they near the end of their lives, strike deals with vampires, allowing themselves to be turned into members of the bloodline.
"By the 21st century, vampires had grown so powerful they divided the entire world into territories. Each pureblood family controls one region.
"World governments, rather than eliminating the vampires, actually enable them by signing agreements. When these elites near death, the vampires are ready to turn them.
"Over time, these so-called immortals quietly infiltrated and began controlling the world."
Hearing this unsettling but logical analysis, Wanda couldn't help but feel a pang of worry.
But a moment later, she shook it off. Carl was too smart to act recklessly. If he had a plan, she'd simply follow his lead.
Carl, naturally, had his preparations in place. He continued, "My plan is to exterminate all the vampires who've turned these elites. If successful, I wouldn't mind wiping out the entire vampire race while I'm at it.
"I'll ensure vampires become nothing but history.
"When the world's elites realize they can no longer rely on vampirism for immortality, they'll be desperate for alternatives.
"That's when we unveil Medpod and spread the word that Umbrella can extend lives.
"I guarantee those death-fearing elites will be scrambling over each other to throw money at us."
After hearing Carl's entire "ultimate promotion" plan, Wanda had no objections. However, she couldn't help but voice a concern.
"It's a good plan, but isn't wiping out the vampire race a bit... ambitious? If their numbers are too vast, how long would it take to kill them all?"
Carl smiled meaningfully. "It's all about targeting the right ones. We focus on the second- and third-generation purebloods.
"Once we eliminate a few key vampire leaders, the remaining high-level vampires will inevitably gather to protect themselves. That's when we take them all out in one go."
Wanda's sharp mind caught on quickly, though she still raised another point. "This plan hinges on finding the high-level vampires. If we can't pinpoint their gathering spots..."
"Relax," Carl assured her. "First, I'll enlist a professional vampire hunter.
"Even in the modern world, vampires still leave traces, especially on social media. When it comes to data tracking, Red Queen can pinpoint their leaders and follow the trail to their headquarters.
"And if all else fails, I'll mobilize the superpowered community.
"Once the filthy truth about vampires is exposed, those self-righteous superheroes who claim to protect peace won't just sit idly by."
Carl's plan was airtight, accounting for even the worst-case scenarios.
However, Wanda noticed something curious. "And what about me? Your whole plan doesn't seem to involve me at all. Am I just a figurehead hospital director?"
"Uh... if everything goes smoothly, there's really no need for you to get involved," Carl admitted, scratching his head awkwardly. "As the boss, it's better for you to oversee everything from the shadows."
Carl had only come up with this plan to distract Wanda while on the plane. He never expected her to scrutinize it so thoroughly.
Wanda stared at him intently, as if reading his thoughts. "Are you avoiding something?"
Carl's heart skipped a beat. Would she really expose his guilty conscience in front of him?
At that moment, Red Queen's projection appeared.
"Boss, we'll be landing in New York in three minutes.
"Ian De La Rosa, head of Umbrella's North American division, has already arrived at JFK Airport."
