I Became an Idol of an Island Nation

Chapter 0 - The Reason I Became a Japanese Idol Fan

A life that was almost over, spent lying down, unable to speak.

I barely had the strength to breathe.

Cancer had already spread throughout my body.

Every part of me, except for the last bastion of life—my cardiopulmonary functions—was consumed by cancer. Soon, even that would fail, and I would die.

“There’s no hope left for me.”

That was the conclusion I had reached.

It was clear that today would be the day of my death.

On the TV placed in front of me, an idol performance was playing—the very idols who had once given me hope.

They were a group barely known in Korea but my absolute favorite.

“Lost Girls (로스트 걸즈).”

Today was the day of their year-end performance. I had begged the nurse to make sure it was on the TV.

Among them was a woman who danced at the center, smiling brilliantly.

Hazuki Nao.

She was my favorite member of Lost Girls.

Like me, Nao was 17. I had read that she too had suffered greatly from cancer at a young age.

However, she embraced a will to live, fought against her illness, and eventually overcame it. This experience taught her the preciousness of life and inspired her to live with determination and effort.

She demonstrated this with her actions—always striving, always giving her best. She was truly admirable.

Of course, she was beautiful, too…

Watching Nao, I felt like maybe, just maybe, if I held onto hope and tried, I could overcome this too.

But not all hopes bear fruit.

I wanted to overcome it.

Yet as I lay there, trapped in my dark thoughts, I was filled with bitterness. Some people were living amazing lives, while I was stuck here, lying down, waiting for death.

I was angry—angry at this unfair world.

“Please, let me live too…”

At that moment, I couldn’t breathe.

“Kh…! Ahh…!”

“This is really the end…”

I had promised myself that I’d beat this illness and go to one of their concerts.

“But… that was too much to hope for, wasn’t it?”

Beep—beep—beep.

That was my last memory.
