Chapter 64
Chapter 64
Pink Falcon, having witnessed the miracle, found all her wounds perfectly healed as if they had never existed.
This wasn’t just some simple healing ability—it was on a whole other level. Parts of her body that had been lost were regenerated, even better than before, all in an instant.
The girl withdrew her outstretched hand and steadied her breathing, showing no apparent side effects from using her power.
If that was true, then how extraordinary was this ability? She alone could change the entire dynamics of every battle they faced.
Could this be the true value of the Messiah they had so desperately sought?
“Are you alright, Falcon?”
“…Yes. Thank you for saving me.”
“Oh, I just prayed; that’s all.”
After glancing at the girl for a moment, Pink Falcon stood up with ease. Her body felt as light as a feather, and she was in prime condition.
“Shall we go?”
“Yes, let’s head back.”
They started walking again toward the cave at the teleportation point. As they walked side by side, the girl spoke up without stopping.
“Earlier, on the train, you asked me why I wanted to become an apostle.”
“…If it’s difficult to answer, you don’t have to push yourself.”
“I wasn’t lying when I said I didn’t know. But after your question, I kept thinking about it. Why did I follow my teacher this far and want to become an apostle?”
Pink Falcon asked cautiously, “Did you find an answer?”
“I want to know who I was—what my name was, why my heart aches at times, and why I feel like crying when I look up at the night sky.”
As she said this, the girl looked up at the Milky Way, feeling as if someone was watching over her from above.
It wasn’t a bad feeling; in fact, she hoped that gaze would remain on her.
“So, do you think becoming an apostle will help you regain your memories?”
“Maybe. All I know for sure is that if anyone knows about my past, it’s my teacher.”
The girl remembered the moment she first opened her eyes. Her initial memory was as if a part of her mind had been severed, beginning in a dark, empty void.
It was her teacher who found her at the bottom of that abyss.
Had it not been for him, she might have remained trapped there forever.
She wasn’t sure if he was a good person—in the eyes of humanity, he was likely a bad one.
But she didn’t feel as though she belonged to humanity. Nor did she want to side with demons.
First, she needed to regain her memories.
That was the top priority.
—
“Good work.”
Once back at the temple, they reported to Black Goat.
“The encounter with the Archmage was unexpected and almost dangerous.”
The girl discreetly looked around at the apostles, most of whom she was seeing for the first time. As she had expected, they all wore animal masks. Did this mean that if she became an apostle, she’d have to wear one too?
“Regardless, you successfully assassinated the target and completed the mission. In other words, you passed the test. Does anyone have objections?”
The apostles accepted the results without issue. Although some were displeased at the thought of a human becoming an apostle, they saw no reason to defy Black Goat’s decision.
“From this moment, you are the twelfth official apostle. Take this.”
Black Goat handed her a cape and a mask.
The cape was a pristine white, and the mask had two curved horns, resembling those of a sheep.
“Well done, White Sheep.”
White Sheep—that was the new name of the girl who had lost her identity. It was also the first praise she had ever received.
After a brief hesitation, she slowly put on the mask and cape.
White Sheep was now an official apostle.
—
“From now on, we will begin full-scale operations. The first objective is to locate the Holy Grail.”
“The Holy Grail? What’s it for?”
Golden Lion asked, and Red Dragon sighed before explaining.
“Fool. The Holy Grail is a sacred relic of immense value.”
“Yeah, but what’s it do?”
“It has the power to purify and restore all things.”
It was a vague description, one that few understood fully. Frustrated, Red Dragon seemed ready to give a lengthy explanation.
“There are three holy relics in the world: the Spear of Longinus, the Holy Grail, and the Crown of Thorns…”
“Enough. What matters is that we need the Holy Grail for our objective. Understood?”
Green Horse replied, “When has the commander ever explained his plans in detail? We simply follow him.”
“I agree. Just tell us what to do.”
In response to Pink Falcon’s request, Black Goat clarified.
“Pink Falcon will stay in the temple.”
“What? Why?”
“Even if your physical wounds are healed, the psychological impact is another matter.”
“…Are you saying I’m afraid?”
“If not for White Sheep, you would be dead. Am I wrong?”
Pink Falcon, usually composed, showed a rare moment of agitation. Lowering her head in silence, she couldn’t respond, and Black Goat continued with the briefing.
“We don’t know the exact location of the Holy Grail, but we have leads. Sand Crocodile worked hard to gather this information.”
He conjured a world map into the air.
“There are four possible locations. Attacking even one will alert the Association to our intentions, and they’ll move the Grail.”
“So, what’s the plan?”
“We attack all four locations simultaneously.”
Blue Shark, who had been listening, exhaled in interest.
“Excluding Sand Crocodile and Pink Falcon, who are stationed at the Academy, the remaining ten apostles will move in unison to attack the four locations.”
“How will the teams be divided?”
“Those not present have already been assigned. They’ll head to Brazil.”
Three animals appeared on the highlighted region of Brazil on the map.
“Red Dragon and Green Horse will take Purple Fox and head to Egypt.”
“Hm…”
“Tch. Why her?”
The symbols of a dragon, horse, and fox appeared over Egypt in Africa.
Green Horse grumbled, and Red Dragon clicked his tongue. It was clear they weren’t too pleased with Purple Fox, who wasn’t present.
“And Golden Lion, Blue Shark, and White Sheep will go to Japan.”
On Japan, the symbols of a lion, shark, and sheep appeared.
White Sheep, looking at the map, asked, “What about the remaining location?”
“I will personally go to the Vatican.”
With Black Goat’s symbol marked in Italy, all regions were assigned.
Without another word, Black Goat left the meeting room.
As the room began to buzz with idle chatter, White Sheep stood silently.
She looked at Pink Falcon, who seemed dejected, but found herself unable to offer any comfort. She decided to give her space and approached her new teammates instead.
Golden Lion and Blue Shark looked in good spirits. Blue Shark smiled as White Sheep approached.
“Newbie. It’s been a while, hasn’t it?”
“…What?”
“Oh, I forgot you don’t remember.”
White Sheep’s eyes widened, and she asked urgently, “You know me? Did we know each other before?”
“It’s a bit of a stretch to say we knew each other. I was just the one who brought you to the temple.”
“…I came to the temple on my own? Why?”
Blue Shark shrugged as she considered the question.
“Beats me. All I know is you decided to come to the temple and asked me to bring you.”
“Does that mean there are no other apostles here who know me?”
“Probably not. Your arrival got interrupted by the Association. Ah, except the Sand Crocodile might.”
Sand Crocodile.
White Sheep repeated the name internally, remembering it had been mentioned in past conversations but that she had never seen him at the temple.
“Is there any way I could meet him?”
“Not now. He’s disguised as a vice-principal at the Academy.”
Golden Lion scoffed, saying, “I don’t know how he endures it, surrounded by humans he’d love to rip apart, yet can’t fight back.”
Blue Shark chuckled, “Not everyone’s a battle addict like you. Though, yeah, it must be tough living among humans and having to stay hidden.”
“The Academy… If I go there, could I meet him?”
They both paused, looking at White Sheep intently.
“Not a good idea. The commander would be furious.”
“Yeah, don’t even bring that up around him if you want to stay in one piece.”
At that moment, Black Goat reentered the meeting room. Had he overheard? White Sheep felt a pang of nervousness.
“Oh, I almost forgot to mention something.”
Black Goat’s gaze shifted to the Japan team.
“According to Sand Crocodile, some Academy students will be on a school trip near your destination.”
“Is that true?”
“Yes. So…”
“Kill them all.”
