Chapter 33
I never expected this.
Even when I heard my younger sister’s words yesterday.
But taking her earnest request into account, I decided to follow along as a teaching assistant for the practice session.
Yet, I never imagined such a thing would happen.
The student council president glared at the figure before her.
It was an eerie man wearing a strange Black Goat mask.
I had heard of that animal mask before.
Apostle.
A group created by demons.
I couldn’t grasp the reason for its establishment, but one thing was for sure: it was an organization of evil that threatened the world.
“I can’t believe the executor is here.”
“I’m not giving you a second warning. Get away from that kid right now.”
“This is amusing. Do you think you can defeat me with those chicks behind you?”
Despite the taunts from the Black Goat, Sehee remained unfazed.
“Of course.”
“That’s quite the confidence.”
Even while paying attention to the enemy before her, Sehee quickly assessed the situation.
In the back, two girls were visible, surrounded by a pool of black blood.
It was a horrific scene.
Is the owner of that blood alive?
At least one piece of luck was that Yu Hana hadn’t died.
Though her condition didn’t seem stable.
I must stay calm.
The opponent is certainly not to be underestimated.
A mysterious group. Their combat power cannot be measured.
As Sehee examined for any openings, someone stepped forward.
“What the…”
In response to the sudden turn of events, Sehee immediately stopped her.
“No! You can’t face them! They’re too dangerous! Quickly, block your friend!”
She urgently pleaded with Kim Shinwoo, who seemed to be the only one in decent shape, but even he couldn’t keep his composure as the situation was dire.
“What’s going on? Did you do this?”
“What if I did?”
“I’ll get rid of you.”
Hong Yeonhwa charged at her with eyes filled with madness.
“I’ll kill you!!”
Flames erupted from both her hands instantly.
The heat was so intense it could be felt from a distance.
“Ugh!!”
“Anger can be a good awakening catalyst. But if you can’t control it, it’ll only turn toxic.”
Attack. Attack. And attack.
A relentless charge indiscriminately launched at the enemy.
None of her strikes managed to reach the opponent.
Easily avoiding Yeonhwa’s fire, the Black Goat closed the distance in an instant and grabbed her by the collar.
“Die! I’ll kill you! I swear I will!!”
“Do you want revenge?”
“Ugh…!”
Upon locking eyes with the figure behind the mask, Yeonhwa fell silent.
Overwhelming terror weighed her down.
Her rage gradually subsided, and her flame fizzled out.
What remained was a cold, chilling sense of despair—a feeling of defeat.
A single tear rolled down Yeonhwa’s cheek.
She had never doubted her abilities before, but now they felt utterly useless.
She had secretly prided herself on being the best.
That she, Han Si-hyun, and Kim Shinwoo would inevitably win with the passage of time.
What a pathetic delusion it turned out to be.
In the end, she couldn’t even protect one friend.
She was nothing more than garbage.
“Get stronger. Much more than you are now.”
Thud.
Yeonhwa collapsed to the ground helplessly.
“Hong Yeonhwa!!”
“I’m fine. I just fainted.”
I don’t know why she spared me, but it was a relief.
If Yeonhwa had acted recklessly, we might have been led to death.
“I’ll distract it; in the meantime, you save Yeonhwa.”
“What about Hana and Sophie?”
“Of course, save them too if you find an opportunity. But it won’t be easy without taking that guy down first.”
I don’t know what the demon’s goal is, but it’s clearly related to the two girls and Yeonhwa.
That means it won’t let them go easily.
Finally, Sehee stepped forward slowly.
The Black Goat watched her silently before speaking.
“Are you not going to let them go quietly?”
“Don’t worry. I won’t kill you—at least not until you spill everything about the Apostles.”
As she closed her eyes, the ground began to tremble.
Sehee slowly levitated into the air.
When she finally opened her eyes, every tree and stone in the surrounding forest also lifted off the ground.
“Impressive.”
Indeed, a power of formidable strength.
Controlling both attraction and repulsion, she was the master of gravity, one of the fundamental forces of the world.
As Sehee reached out, every rock in the air flew toward the enemy.
The Black Goat didn’t just stand there.
Swinging its grotesquely deformed arm, its sharp claws shattered the rocks with ease.
Immediately, Sehee pulled her arm back.
The ground where the Black Goat stood folded and moved.
The Black Goat retreated from the ground, and suddenly a dark, ominous portal opened in midair, followed by the appearance of monsters.
Obeying their master’s command, the beasts charged at the enemy without hesitation.
But with just a gesture from Sehee, they were effortlessly pinned to the ground and crushed.
“You’re indeed strong.”
“You’re a nuisance.”
Sehee, who had been glaring coldly, brought her hands close together.
Massive energy began to gather between her palms, increasing in size.
That looks quite dangerous.
Recognizing the potential power of the technique, the Black Goat prepared to respond.
The energy gradually formed a black sphere resembling a night sky.
Sehee launched it at the Black Goat.
The speed was much slower than expected.
But the gravitational sphere began to suck everything around it as it moved.
Even the ground couldn’t maintain its form and crumbled into the void.
The opponent didn’t dodge.
What is it thinking?
Sehee, who had expected it to evade, was momentarily taken aback.
The Black Goat merely stared silently.
Then, it extended its hand.
A reverse cross symbol drew in its palm.
It emitted a black light and then swallowed the gravitational sphere whole.
“Are you… absorbing the gravitational sphere?”
That shouldn’t be possible.
It’s like a small black hole that devours everything.
The fact that it could absorb it means it possessed power far surpassing its own.
“……”
That’s impossible.
It must be.
The struggle between the gravitational sphere and the Black Goat continued.
A tense stalemate. Sehee also poured all her strength into the gravitational sphere.
Her mental energy rapidly dwindled.
At this rate, she would be defeated.
Crackle.
Zing!
In that moment, a purple spark slightly disrupted the balance.
The Black Goat glared at the intruder.
Shinwoo rushed in, wielding a brightly shining sword.
With a clean slash.
But the attack was effortlessly blocked.
The Black Goat held off the gravitational sphere with one hand while parrying Shinwoo’s sword with the other.
No matter how much Shinwoo exerted himself, his sword remained trapped in the Black Goat’s grip.
Their eyes met, and as the Black Goat stared fiercely at the boy, it spoke.
“Is the fun over now?”
“Grrk…!”
“How boring.”
“Then how about this?”
A red laser shot from Shinwoo’s eyes.
Because he was making eye contact, the surprise attack accurately struck the Black Goat’s eyes.
The instant the momentum wavered.
Sehee seized the opportunity and channeled her last ounce of energy.
The balance of the intense struggle tipped to one side.
The gravitational sphere accurately struck the Black Goat.
In that moment, all the strength she had gathered was released.
All the condensed gravitational energy converted into repulsive force and exploded.
The world was drenched in brilliant white light.
At last, the wave of the explosion subsided, and both of them couldn’t hide their fatigue.
Seeing the opponent still standing resiliently.
“…Impressive. Cough.”
However, the Black Goat also wasn’t unscathed.
Blood spewed from behind the mask as the demon swayed.
Then, they heard sounds of movement from afar.
Reinforcements had begun to arrive in response to the commotion.
Immediately, their expressions brightened.
The Black Goat, standing dumbfounded, mumbled.
“I never thought being delayed by the tamer would lead to this outcome… I’ve truly been had.”
“It’s your turn to be finished. Now, first, how about taking off that precious mask of yours?”
“I’ve sacrificed too many pawns. I suppose I’ll have to plan for the next opportunity.”
“You think you can escape!?”
Sehee gathered her strength, but her abilities didn’t activate anymore.
She had exhausted too much mental energy.
“Tch, of all times…!”
“We’ll meet again soon. When we do, I will have my revenge. Executor. And you, deceiver.”
A black portal, just like the one they’d seen earlier, reappeared behind the Black Goat.
The figure casually stepped into it.
Kim Shinwoo shouted.
“Wait!!”
“I look forward to our next meeting.”
The demon vanished, and the portal closed.
Shinwoo stared at the spot until the very last moment before collapsing onto the ground.
As Sehee steadied her breathing, she cried out.
“What about the kids?!”
“…Over there.”
Seeing where Shinwoo pointed, she let out a sigh of relief.
Then, she sensed something was off and asked.
“What about the other one? The red-haired girl?”
“…….”
In a corner where the aftermath of the battle had not reached.
Only one person was lying there.
*
“Can you believe such a disaster happened during the students’ practice? It’s unbelievable.”
“I heard it was the work of demons.”
“Apostles. It’s those guys again.”
“This is… But at least it’s fortunate that there were unexpectedly few casualties.”
“That’s true. Just one fatality.”
“Have they found that kid’s body?”
“They say there was none anywhere.”
“Were they certain he was dead before that?”
“According to the testimony of the surviving student… the likelihood is high.”
“That’s a vague answer.”
“The student’s condition is unstable, so it seems like the investigation will take some time.”
“What should we do?”
“For now, hold off. It’s preferable that there are no dead, if possible.”
