Chapter 16: Chapter 16: Killing Eight Hundred Enemies, Hurting Oneself Ten Thousand Times

Lin Mo's decision to take the immortal examination was glossed over thanks to Zhang Dahai's joking manner. As the homeroom teacher, Li Xiang naturally wanted to intervene, but he knew that gentle persuasion was better than forceful obstruction.

In previous years, there had always been students like Lin Mo and Zhang Dahai among the graduating class. After all, it's not easy to completely give up on the path to immortality after over a decade of diligent study. Ever since "Post-Primordial Chaos" descended upon Planet Diyuan, everyone gained access to the cultivation system, and pursuing immortality through cultivation became the mainstream life goal in the mortal realm.

However, having a cultivation interface didn't guarantee success in attaining immortality. In fact, innate talent remained an insurmountable barrier for most people. Even at prestigious schools like Nanshan No. 4 High School, which ranked in the top five in the large province of Xichuan, very few students could actually gain admission to Daoist academies.

The final mock exam for the senior year was, in a sense, meant to wake up students like Lin Mo who still harbored unrealistic hopes. The mock exam followed the format of the real immortal examination, with a written test in the morning followed by the actual immortal examination for a select few in the afternoon.

At 8 AM, Lin Mo and his classmates were moved to the computer room in the second teaching building. The written test was conducted on computers, with all subjects combined into a single exam. This wasn't unique to Qin State - it was standard practice across all nine states of Diyuan, reflecting the prevailing "emphasis on cultivation, de-emphasis on academics" philosophy.

Despite this attitude, the written test mostly consisted of multiple-choice questions, allowing ample time for completion, especially for top students like Lin Mo. He had chosen Physics and Literature as his elective subjects. Physics was straightforward for those who understood it, while Literature was a matter of foundational skills.

As the exam began, Lin Mo quickly assessed the difficulty level of the questions, finding them surprisingly simple. He effortlessly breezed through the exam, his mouse clicks drawing envious glances from his struggling classmates.

After six hours, the exam concluded. Lin Mo stretched, having maintained his "1" key pressing throughout the test, accumulating 360 merit points. His classmates were amazed to see his top score of 886 points displayed on the screen.

Zhang Dahai, who had also appeared confident during the exam, dramatically praised Lin Mo's score. However, he then turned to taunt Ye Chen, whose score of 390 points ranked 32nd in the class. Ye Chen retorted that cultural scores were meaningless for the immortal examination before storming out.

As Zhang Dahai basked in his perceived victory over Ye Chen, Lin Mo silently noted Zhang's own score - a mere 249 points, ranking second to last in the class. Lin Mo couldn't help but think, "Killing eight hundred enemies while hurting oneself ten thousand times, huh? You're barely better than that dimwit Chu Wange!"
