I Got Fired As an Adventurer, So I’m Starting Anew As an Alchemist! Frontier Exploration? Alright, Leave It to Me!

Chapter 142.1

142.1. Sometimes, Sensible People Stick Out, Isn’t It?

The school entrance hall.

Again, it’s a solemn and majestic structure, and it feels incredibly strange to see commoners coming in and out.

When I entered and looked up at the high ceiling, Saika-chan chuckled softly.

“Hey, I’ll teach you what you shouldn’t do at this school.”

Saika-chan lightly went over the school rules. I’d already received this in writing, but since she was explaining it, I figured I should listen carefully.

I don’t discriminate against demi-humans, after all.

As I listened to her explanation, out of the corner of my eye, I followed a beautiful girl who was with an alchemist,

but it seemed she had gone off on her own and disappeared. What a shame.

“――Anyway, as long as you follow these rules, you should be fine. Were you listening?”

“Oh, yeah! Of course!”

“Then, let’s head to the classroom!”

As we walked down the hallway, I heard a rhythmic tonk tonk sound.

It seemed a craftsman was repairing something.

I couldn’t see clearly from behind, but the craftsman was short and wearing overalls.

Various tools were hanging from their waist.

The alchemist walking ahead of us seemed to notice the craftsman and called out.

Were they acquaintances?

As we moved down the hall, the alchemist and the craftsman became clearer.

Twin tails swayed.

The craftsman was a girl.

(She looks about my age, but since she’s already working, she must be an adult. So, she’s probably sixteen?)

As we passed, I overheard their conversation.

“Leafan, what are you doing?”

“Oh, Craft-kun. Remember that windy day we had recently? I’m here to fix the damage caused by some flying branches.”

“I see. But you’re busy, aren’t you? Why are you doing it personally?”

“The guildmaster came by, so I had some breathing room. Besides, since this school is important to Kyle-sama, I wanted to check it out myself.”

“That makes sense. Good luck!”

“Yep! You too, Craft-kun!”

The girl gave the alchemist a radiant smile. …It kind of annoyed me.

“What’s wrong~? The classroom’s this way~”

“Oh, right. Sorry.”

Wamika-chan gently urged me forward, and I quickly followed after her, glancing back several times at the older girl hammering away behind us.

When we entered the noisy classroom, there was a female knight.

Standing at the back wall of the classroom, a tall woman in armor. Compared to the kids, she stood out immediately.

A short cape, like the ones worn by the royal guard, and short-cut blonde hair, styled not to interfere with her sword.

Her profile was dignified.

Come to think of it, noble children attend this school, so having bodyguards around is allowed.

As I stared at her, Ed casually called out to her.

“Yo! Persia-neechan! Morning!”

“Ah. Good morning. You’re energetic as usual.”

It seemed her name was Persia.

Her bell-like voice made my heart skip a beat.

“That boy is new, right? So, you’re the herald’s grandson?”

She gazed at me sharply, stretching out her hand for a handshake.

Thump, thump, thump. My heart was so loud.

“Ah, uh, yes. I’m Feidar Ingu. Um, nice to meet you.”

“I’m Persia Formalhaut. I’m Myrna-sama’s bodyguard. Treat me like I’m not here.”

As we shook hands, Persia gave a faint smile.

There’s no way I can treat you like you’re not here! I wanted to shout, but I swallowed the words.

As I stared at the palm of my right hand, remembering the sensation of Persia’s handshake, suddenly, that hand was grabbed firmly.

It’s been overwritten!?

“Feidar, right? Over here!”

“Wait!? Hey! Don’t hold my hand!”

I glared murderously at Ed, but he was already facing forward, so it didn’t matter.

“Myrna! We’ve got a newcomer!”

At the center of the classroom, students had gathered, and Ed pushed through them.

In the middle, a girl sat quietly.

She turned around. Her long, blonde hair gently swayed.

My heart stopped.

For probably about thirty seconds.

“…Myrna.”

A soft voice, like the sound of rain, reached my ears.

I quickly forced my heart back to life, realizing it came from the girl in front of me.

“I-I’m Feidar Ingu…yeah!”

Why am I trying to act cool?

I’ve never referred to myself as “I” before!

Feeling strangely flustered, I introduced myself to Myrna with my chest puffed out.

Then, a loud bell rang. The students all took their seats.

Apparently, there were no assigned seats, so I sat next to Ed and Kai as they guided me.

Sitting diagonally behind Myrna, her profile kept catching my attention.

It’s just a coincidence! A coincidence!

A little while later, a man rushed into the classroom, looking flustered. He’s probably the teacher.

He looked to be in his early thirties, but for some reason, there was something odd about his head.

Was his hair misaligned?

As I tilted my head at the odd sight, the man pressed his head down and looked in my direction.

“Ah, there you are, Feidar-kun. Weren’t you told to come to the staff room on your first day?”

“Huh?”
