I Got Fired As an Adventurer, So I’m Starting Anew As an Alchemist! Frontier Exploration? Alright, Leave It to Me!

Chapter 143.1

143.1. Repeated Shocks Numb You, Isn’t It?

Whoa, whoa, whoa, no way!

The first surprise was that the small girl with purple hair was a teacher.

Of course, that in itself was surprising, but even more shocking was that she was the famous alchemist, Jabil Hayan.

A renowned alchemist and a renowned doctor.

On top of that, she founded the scholarly organization that brought several previously secret techniques and spells to the public, greatly advancing humanity’s progress in just a few years.

Now that I think about it, there was a rumor that she failed in her research on the rejuvenation elixir, Amrita.

Seeing her youthful appearance, I thought, “Ah, that makes sense.”

The surprises kept coming.

When I saw the magic formulas she was writing on the blackboard, my eyes widened.

Not only was the formula clear and refined, but kids my age, commoners no less, were groaning and writing it down in their notebooks!

Being able to read and write isn’t enough!?!

While Jabil-sensei continued her lecture on the stage, a black-haired alchemist was going around the classroom, checking the progress of the students.

As he peeked into my notebook, he nodded in satisfaction.

…How annoying.

“As expected of the grandson of the emblem officer. You study well.”

“…It’s only because Jabil-sensei is a good teacher.”

“Well, that’s true, but you’re quick to understand for your age.”

Not that I’m happy to be praised by you!

The alchemist stopped by the quiet blonde girl, Myrna, and peeked into her notebook for a while.

Then, as the alchemist added something to her notes, Myrna’s typically expressionless face brightened up.

She nodded enthusiastically to his advice, looking straight at him.

I don’t know how to describe it, but there was a certain intensity in her gaze—almost like excitement.

For some reason, I felt an inexplicable sense of anger and jealousy toward the alchemist.

I shook my head and returned my focus to the lesson.

It’d be absurd to miss out on Jabil-sensei’s rare lecture!

…Do the people around me even understand how amazing this is?

And so, with some unsettled feelings, the theory portion of the class ended.

Then came the next surprise.

There’s more!?

When I saw it, I was so shocked I almost passed out.

We moved from the classroom to the courtyard for practical training.

…Are you kidding me?

While magical talent is important, with enough training, anyone can learn magic.

However, you need basic reading, writing, and math skills, as well as knowledge of magical theory.

That’s why, unless you have a magic emblem, you can’t learn magic without a really good teacher.

Or at least, that’s how it should be…

“Craft-niisan! Look! I increased the amount of water I can produce with magic since last week!”

The one excitedly shouting was Ed, a wolf beastman.

Huh?

A beastman using magic?

Without an emblem?

“Oh, that’s awesome, Ed. You’re not really cut out to be a mage, but even just knowing the [Water Creation] and [Ignition] spells will be useful when you become an adventurer.”

“Yeah! But I also wanna learn attack magic…”

“It’s important to divide roles. Let Kai handle the attack magic, and you focus on the front line with a sword and shield. That’d balance things out better.”

“That’s one thing, but this is another!”

“Fair enough. Then try practicing [Ignition] next. If you can’t do that, it’ll be impossible to use the easiest fire attack spells.”

“Got it!”

Wait, wait, wait.

He’s really using magic…

It’s shocking enough that commoners can use magic, but a beastman too?

It’s not discrimination or anything, but I’ve never heard of a beastman being able to use magic before, so the shock is huge.

And this kid doesn’t even have an emblem.

“Craft-san, can I practice attack magic?”

“Hm? Sure, go ahead and shoot at that target over there, but stand back a bit.”

“Okay.”

This time, it’s Kai, a red panda beastman, who begins crafting a magic formula.

Wait, no way, that formula is…

“[Blazing Fireball]! …Didn’t work, huh.”

No, no, no!

[Blazing Fireball] is a higher-level spell than [Fireball]!

Even many adventurer mages can’t use it! How can a kid possibly cast it!?

While I was still in shock, the alchemist checked Kai’s magic formula.

“You’re almost there. Pour more magic power into this part of the formula, and for this section, imagine it being thin and long… channel it carefully.”

“Yes!”

After Kai failed repeatedly, he eventually sat down, exhausted from magic depletion.

Then, the alchemist pulled a test-tube-shaped potion bottle from his belt.

“You’re reaching your limit, huh? Here, drink this. Oh, Feida too. You’re about at your limit, right? Take one.”

The potion he handed to Kai and me was a mana potion.

While keeping an eye on everyone, I was also diligently practicing my magic.

I had already learned basic spells from my grandfather, my father, and a tutor, so I could use simple magic from the start.

Thanks to today’s lesson, I was able to master parts I didn’t fully understand before, and I had used up a lot of magic.

“What’s this?”

“A mana potion.”

“What!?”

When I expressed my shock, the alchemist waved his hand dismissively.

“Compared to the ones I gave to Generis-san, the quality of this is far lower. It’s heavily diluted through alchemy. Even compared to mana potions sold outside Golden Dawn, its effectiveness is much weaker.”

“Still, you’re giving these out to commoners—er, I mean, students!?”

“The budget comes from Kyle, so don’t worry about it. Just don’t go spreading it around, alright? Since mana potion ingredients are rare and there’s not much supply on the market, even a weak potion like this could cause misunderstandings.”

“I don’t think anyone would believe me if I told them, but understood.”

“It’s been diluted a lot, so it won’t fully restore you, but it should give you enough magic for the class. Keep at it.”

Even though it’s the kind of potion young adventurers carry as a backup… you’re giving it out for free!?

I seriously don’t get it!

Oh yeah, you can drink as much stamina potion as you want at this academy too.

“[Blazing Fireball]!”

While I was lost in thought, a thunderous roar rang out.

When I turned around, a wooden target shaped like a monster was engulfed in flames.

“I did it! It worked!”

“Whoa! Nice one!”

As the alchemist praised Kai, the other students gathered around.

“That’s amazing, Kai! Congrats!”

“Yeah!”

“Damn! That’s so cool!”

“Hehe.”

“…Impressive.”

“Thanks, Myrna-chan!”

“Teacher, the fire’s gonna spread to the other targets~.”

“Oh! [Water Bullet]!”

In a panic, the alchemist cast water magic to put out the fire, and an exasperated Jabil-sensei came over to him.

“Craft-sensei, prioritize safety.”

“Yes.”

As the alchemist shrank down in shame, I couldn’t help but think, serves him right.

But wait, he can also use attack spells?

Seriously, who is this guy?

I looked around at the other students again.

While they weren’t casting attack spells, many were forming magical formulas with their magic.

Even those who hadn’t fully cast their spells yet would likely do so soon.

…..
