Chapter 144.1
144.1. Being The First In The World, We Need To Proceed Cautiously, Isn’t It?
The festival usually held alongside the coming-of-age ceremony lasts one day.
I don’t know about other countries, but in this kingdom, it has become the biggest festival in various regions.
The festival itself is held even in small villages, but families with children turning sixteen must move to a larger city designated by the kingdom.
This is a big deal every year, but it’s not an issue in the Elixir Frontier.
That’s because all the children before adulthood belong to the academy, so their whereabouts are clear.
Families in Leafan Town with children approaching adulthood have already moved to Golden Dawn with their families.
Some children have moved to dormitories, though.
Plans are underway to establish an academy in Leafan Town, but that’s a story for another time.
Now, while the festival typically lasts one day, in the Elixir Frontier, it will be held for three days.
In the past year alone, we’ve had many large festivals, such as dragon hunts and celebrations for becoming a frontier, but this time it has become a grander scale.
As a result…
“Uooooh! The deliveries! The deliveries aren’t going to make it!”
“Craft! Let the Guild Master handle that!”
“Hey! You’re just throwing it on me!?”
In response to my shout, Leafan immediately dumps the work onto the Guild Master, who screams in protest.
“I’ll handle it, so Guild Master, please take care of this.”
The one who quietly took on the task is Sindeli Stonework, Leafan’s trusted aide, who came to Golden Dawn with the Guild Master.
He still looks sickly thin, but apparently, he’s healthy.
In terms of being able to hold the Guild Master’s reins, he’s a capable man comparable to Leafan.
“Sindeli!? That’s still a huge workload over here, you know!?”
“It’s only natural that we receive approvals related to the coming-of-age ceremony from guilds across the land.”
“T-That’s Leafan’s…”
“It’s the Guild Master’s job. Oh, and please wrap this up in two hours. After that, there’s the work for this town.”
“Don’t say such unreasonable things!”
“Do it even if it’s impossible or unreasonable. Otherwise, the coming-of-age ceremony will flop, you know? Do you want to be subjected to the commercial guild’s remarks again?”
“Nuggggghhhh!”
Usually, the Guild Master runs away, throwing tasks at Leafan or Sindeli, but today he can’t escape.
Come on, at least do your own job!
“Alright then, Sindeli, I’ll leave the deliveries to you! I’m heading to the academy!”
“Understood.”
The Guild Master is competent enough that if he gets a kick in the rear from Leafan and Sindeli, he’ll manage to get the work done.
Getting him motivated is a struggle, though.
With that, I leave the work to them and head to help at the academy.
First, I go to pick up the emblem officer, Generis.
“Thank you for waiting, Generis-san!”
“I just finished preparing here as well.”
Holding a bag stuffed with rosters, Generis stepped out of his house, and we walked to the academy together.
When we arrive, Oblio Rernen is already gathering the students.
“Those coming of age, line up here; the observers, line up over there!”
In one classroom, the seventeen people who will come of age sit with nervous expressions.
Some might wonder why there are only seventeen people becoming adults in Golden Dawn, which has a rapidly increasing population, but there’s a reason for that.
First, this land is a frontier.
Most people who come to a frontier are already adults, and there are hardly any families with children.
Even families considering moving usually have children who are nearing adulthood, so they’ll look for work locally or move after their children become adults.
Of course, many families move here without finding work, but those families tend to have younger children.
They come here, betting everything on the rumors of Golden Dawn.
While the number of younger students at the academy continues to increase, the number of upper-grade students like the Kendall siblings isn’t growing much.
However, if word spreads about the emblem aptitude starting this time, I think the number of immigrants will increase further.
“Thank you, Oblio-sensei.”
“It’s part of my job. …Ryuuko isn’t here today, is she?”
“She’s staying at home as usual.”
“I see.”
Oblio shows a relieved expression.
It seems Ryuuko’s strictness has become a trauma for him.
In the process, his hair shifts slightly. Naturally, he pushes his head back down with his hand, and the discomfort disappears.
Yeah. Next time, I’ll make him a hair growth potion with alchemy.
As I silently vow this, I guide Generis to his seat.
The emblem officer takes the resident roster out of his bag.
The reason the “emblem officer” is a national qualification is that they hold this roster.
This time, it was handed directly to me by Kyle.
Generis turns to the seventeen who are coming of age.
“Well then, in past coming-of-age ceremonies, we’ve told you your desired emblems and used magic to engrave those emblems. However, this time, under Kyle’s suggestion, we’re required to check the emblem aptitude for everyone.”
The seventeen hold their breath.
“Of course, those who don’t wish to know will proceed as before, but is there anyone?”
