Chapter 161.2

161.2. It’s Okay To Have A Bit Of Hope On A Rare Day Off, Isn’t It?

◆Persia Formalhaut

My name is Persia Formalhaut.

Proudly serving as a guard for Kyle-sama Golden Dawn von Elixir and Myrna-sama Bale Road.

Recently, since knights have taken over guarding Kyle-sama, my work has been mostly to protect Myrna-sama.

I must stress—it’s an honor.

However, I’m currently in a predicament.

Kyle-sama and Myrna-sama are in a quarrel. Well, it’s more that Myrna-sama is sulking, which is rather endearing.

Today, Kyle-sama is departing for a coalition of small states, yet Myrna-sama refuses to leave her room.

Once again, I knock.

“Myrna-sama, you must get dressed soon, or you’ll miss the ceremony!”

As a member of the lord’s bloodline, Myrna-sama must prepare from early morning. Though staying here as a frontier baron’s daughter, being Kyle’s twin, Myrna is required to act as part of the ruling family.

But from within the room came a single word:

“No!”

Sulking Myrna-sama—adorable.

No, focus!

The protocol must be upheld.

Alongside me, maids not permitted entry also wring their hands anxiously in the hallway.

Help! Somebody, please!

Just as I was silently screaming, help truly arrived.

“Persia. Is Myrna still inside?”

“Kyle-sama!”

I quickly turned.

Having recovered from illness—or rather, a curse—Kyle-sama appeared more dignified daily.

“I-I apologize!”

I immediately dropped to one knee in apology.

“Ah. So be it. Let her skip.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes. Persia, remain on standby and bring Myrna if she emerges.”

“Understood!”

Truly, Kyle-sama is kind!

“I understand Myrna not wanting us both gone at once…”

“That makes sense, but what does Craft have to do with it?”

I voiced my honest curiosity.

While aware of Myrna’s attachment to that alchemist, it must only be because he was a rare acquaintance of hers, right?

With more friends now, surely one person’s absence shouldn’t matter.

Kyle widened his eyes.

“Ah, typical Persia.”

“Thank you, sir!”

I escorted Kyle-sama to the ceremony, then resumed my hallway watch. Yet, as time passed, even knocking elicited no reply.

Sulking Myrna—adorable.

In the end, Myrna-sama spent the day holed up.

As dusk approached, even the maids, desperate to at least bring her food, pleaded with me. I agreed.

So, I opened Myrna-sama’s door.

As her guard, I am one of the few permitted to defy her orders and enter.

Curtains fluttered gently.

The room was dim.

“…Myrna-sama?”

Suddenly uneasy, I approached the bed with a hand on my sword’s hilt.

“She’s gone?”

I immediately called in the maids to search, but my attention was riveted.

An open door led to the balcony, where a makeshift rope, made of tied sheets, hung from the railing.

Below it, extending to a larger balcony one floor down, was its end.

Without hesitation, I jumped to the lower balcony.

This empty room, currently unused, had its balcony door ajar.

Finally, the reality hit.

“M-Myrna-sama has escaped!”

My voice echoed throughout the castle.
