I Got Reincarnated As a Lizard

Chapter 5: Midnight Ambush

'Eva POV'

Nyoom nyoom munch... (Sound of munching food)

Reva: "Eat a lot, my child, so you grow strong."

Tyson: "Yeah, yeah..." (While petting the little lizard in front of him)

Yes, that's me...

It's been about two weeks since I reincarnated into this place. As you can see, my job is just to eat and sleep. At this rate, I might get fat...

Forget it.

Munch munch... (Sound of munching food)

The meat is delicious even though it's raw. Yes, I've gotten used to eating raw meat, and I think it's quite tasty. Is it because I've turned into a lizard?

Reva: "Honey, look at him, he's so cute!!"

Tyson: "Of course, he's our child, dear."

Reva: "Hehehe, yes, dear."

Haah...

Hey..., I'm here too, you know.

Well... never mind, I've seen them being affectionate often...

I want to be hugged too.

I approached them.

Tyson: "Hmm?"

Reva: "Hmm? What is it, dear?"

I lowered my head while touching my parents.

Tyson: "It seems he wants a hug too."

Reva: "Do you want a hug, dear?"

I nodded my head.

Reva: "Aww, how cute! Come here, mama will hug you."

Tyson: "Come here with dad too, Eva."

I was hugged by both of them.

Hmmm, this feels nice... I hope days like this continue.

'Author POV'

In the dark and dense forest, the adventurers stepped cautiously. The humid air and the smell of wet earth filled their noses. Around them, tall trees towered with leaves rustling in the night wind.

A thin mist hung low, creating an eerie atmosphere, as if the world was whispering to them to be careful. But they didn't care.

They were not noble adventurers; they were a group of individuals who only cared about wealth and power. Among them was an ambitious leader named Klay.

Klay: (In a firm voice) "We're not here to play around. The Black Lizard has a lot of treasures that we can sell in the black market. We need to kill it and bring everything back."

Mira: (Caressing the dagger in her hand) "And if we succeed, we'll be rich. I'm tired of living in poverty like this."

Boris: (Laughing roughly) "But don't forget, we have to be careful. Unlike other stupid monsters, the Black Lizard is not easy to defeat. We need to work together."

Luca: (Sardonically) "Work together? With you guys? I'm just here to get a bigger share."

As they continued their journey, the sound of night birds echoed from afar, and the rustling of leaves beneath their feet made the forest feel even more somber. The tension among the adventurers became increasingly palpable.

The adventurers then made their way through the forest with cautious steps, their eyes gleaming with greed. The sounds of the night accompanied their journey.

Klay: "Focus, everyone."

After that warning, they continued their journey toward the Black Lizard's lair, located deep in the forest. The atmosphere grew quieter, and their steps became more careful.

A thin mist floated around them, creating a chilling ambiance. Finally, they arrived at a wide clearing, where the Black Lizard's lair was located.

In the center of the clearing, there was a large cave surrounded by big rocks. The night wind blew gently, carrying the scent of wet earth and decaying leaves, creating an atmosphere that heightened the tension. They could feel the presence of the large creature inside the cave.

'Eva POV'

Srrrkk... Srrkk...

What is that sound? The atmosphere around the cave felt increasingly tense. The night sky grew darker, illuminated only by the moonlight peeking through the clouds. Dad furrowed his brow and released his embrace.

Tyson: "Wait, I'll check outside."

Reva: "I'll go too, just a moment, Eva." (With a smile, even though the tension was starting to build)

The sound of heavy footsteps and suspicious movements came from outside the cave. The rustling of twigs and dry leaves being kicked around grew closer.

Dad and Mom looked anxious, and I could feel the tension hanging in the air, as if nature itself was sensing it.

Tyson: "Eva, hide quickly."

Dad said in a firm voice.

Huh!?

I looked at Dad's face, filled with worry, and even though I wanted to ask, all that came out of my mouth was a growl.

Meanwhile, Dad and Mom began to move toward the cave entrance, ready to face the approaching threat.

After a brief moment, I heard the sounds of a fierce battle, the clash of metal against scales, screams, and heavy footsteps drawing nearer.

Why are there screams outside? I mustered the courage to step out of the cave. Outside, I saw a group of people.

Their shadows blended with the darkness of the forest, barely visible in the dim light of the moon.

Haaah!? Why are there humans here, and why are they fighting with Dad and Mom!?

Mom once said that we were lizards with very rare scale colors and extraordinary magical powers. They didn't care if we were just trying to live peacefully. They only cared about what they could gain from us.

I felt a fear shaking my body, and just as I was about to step out of the cave to see, Dad's shout echoed.

Tyson: "Eva! Run!" he yelled.

But, but Dad! Mom! I let out a growl.

Reva: "Run! Evaaa!"

There, I saw my mother pierced by a sword, red blood flowing onto the dark ground, becoming even more horrifying in the silence of the night...
