I Got the Gluttony Skill, and Now I’m Overpowered

Chapter 19: The Wyvern’s Challenge First A-Rank Mission

Raven looked over the missions, his eyes scanning the details of each one carefully. After a moment, he nodded and reached for Mission 1: Slay the Obsidian Wyvern. With the mission in hand, he turned and walked back toward Mira at the receptionist desk. The adventurers in the guild watched him intently, murmuring among themselves.

"What mission did he pick?" one whispered.

"I bet it's the toughest one," another guessed.

"He's going for the wyvern, isn't he?" someone said, their tone filled with both awe and disbelief.

Mira noticed Raven approaching and smiled brightly. "What did you take, Rav?" she asked casually.

Raven stopped in his tracks and raised an eyebrow. "Did you just say Rav?" he asked, his tone laced with amusement.

Realizing what she had said, Mira's face turned bright red. "I-I just thought it'd be a nice nickname," she stammered. "Do you not like it?"

Raven chuckled, shaking his head. "No, it's fine. But only you can call me that, alright?"

Mira's blush deepened, and she nodded quickly. "Alright," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

The exchange didn't go unnoticed by the other adventurers, who immediately began whispering amongst themselves.

"Did you see that? He's smiling and joking with her," one said, clearly surprised.

"I think Mira's got a thing for him," another teased.

"It's not just Mira. Did you see how relaxed he looked?" someone else chimed in.

Raven handed the mission slip to Mira, who took it and glanced at the details. She nodded approvingly. "The Obsidian Wyvern mission, huh?" she said. "That's a tough one, but if anyone can handle it, it's you."

"Thanks for the vote of confidence," Raven replied with a smirk.

Mira smiled warmly and continued, "The wyvern has been terrorizing the northern mines. You'll need to head out to the Miners' Ridge, just past the village of Iron Hollow. Once you're there, speak to the foreman for more details."

Raven nodded, listening intently. "Got it. Miners' Ridge, Iron Hollow, foreman. Sounds straightforward enough."

Mira giggled. "Straightforward, he says. You're going after a wyvern, Rav. Nothing about that is straightforward."

Raven laughed softly. "Fair point," he admitted.

Their lighthearted exchange earned more murmurs from the adventurers around them, many of whom were now watching with a mix of curiosity and amusement.

"He's so different when he talks to her," one adventurer whispered.

"Mira's definitely got a special place with him," another added.

After a few more moments of conversation, Raven gave Mira a small smile and said, "Thanks for the details. I'll be back soon." With that, he turned and began heading toward the guild's exit, ready to take on his first A-rank mission.

Raven left the guild, the doors closing behind him as he set out on his mission. Meanwhile, back inside the bustling guild hall, Mira stood at her desk, a bright smile on her face as she watched him leave. Lost in thought, she murmured quietly to herself, "He's really something else… I can't believe how much I…" She trailed off, her face growing red as she realized what she was thinking.

Suddenly, a voice came from behind her. "So, Mira, it seems you have quite the affection for that boy, don't you?"

Mira froze, her entire body going stiff as if she'd been turned to stone. Slowly, she turned around, her face pale with shock. "G-Guild Master!" she stuttered, her voice barely above a whisper.

The Guild Master stood there with a knowing smile, his arms crossed as he observed her. "It's nothing to be embarrassed about," he said lightly. "It's written all over your face every time you look at him. You like him, don't you?"

Mira's blush deepened, and she struggled to find her words. "I-I don't… I mean, I do, but…" she stumbled, before finally sighing and admitting quietly, "Yes, I do. He's… amazing. Strong, kind, and even though he can be so cold, there's something about him that… draws me in."

Her honest confession was overheard by nearby adventurers, who immediately began whispering among themselves.

"Did she just admit she likes Raven?" one adventurer said, wide-eyed.

"Wow, even Mira… Raven really is something else," another murmured.

"I mean, can you blame her? The guy defeated the Guild Master and walked away like it was nothing," someone else chimed in.

The Guild Master chuckled, patting Mira gently on the shoulder. "Well, there's no shame in it, Mira. Just don't let it distract you from your duties. That boy's path is a complicated one, and it'll take someone strong to stand beside him."

Mira nodded, her expression softening as she looked down at her desk. "I understand, Guild Master. Thank you."

The adventurers continued their murmurs, but Mira's thoughts remained focused on Raven, her resolve strengthening as she silently promised herself to support him in whatever way she could.

Raven smiled to himself as he walked away from the guild, his thoughts lingering on Mira. He muttered softly, "She's… something special." A genuine smile crossed his face as he glanced up at the sky, his determination settling in.

"Let's go," he said firmly. Then, in thought, he activated his skill. *Abyssal Wings.* Two massive wings made of fire and shadow burst from his back, their energy radiating power. With a single powerful flap, he launched into the air, leaving a small shockwave behind as he ascended into the sky.

Raven soared through the clouds, the wind rushing past him as he made his way toward the village Mira had mentioned.

After an hour of flight, he reached the outskirts of the village. However, instead of stopping, he decided to push further. "The mines should be close," he thought, focusing on his destination.

Thirty minutes later, the barren, rocky terrain of the mining site came into view. Spotting the miners below, Raven descended swiftly, landing with a ripple of energy that sent a slight shockwave through the ground. The workers, startled by the sudden arrival, turned to see him with wide eyes.

The foreman, a burly man with a dirt-streaked face and a commanding presence, walked over, his expression cautious but curious. "Who are you, young man?" he asked, his voice gruff but not unfriendly.

Raven met the foreman's gaze, his tone calm and direct. "I'm an adventurer sent by the guild to deal with the Obsidian Wyvern."

The miners began murmuring among themselves, their voices a mix of hope and skepticism.

The foreman's eyes widened slightly before he nodded. "Well, I'll be damned. They sent someone already. Didn't think anyone would take the job so quickly." He crossed his arms, appraising Raven for a moment. "You look young, but if the guild sent you, I'll trust their judgment. That wyvern's been terrorizing our operations for weeks. If you can take it down, you'll be a hero to all of us here."

Raven gave a small nod, his expression resolute. "Tell me everything you know about it. Its habits, its attacks, anything that will help me kill it."

The foreman wiped his hands on a rag and began explaining. "The Obsidian Wyvern is unlike any beast we've dealt with before. It's massive, about 20 feet tall with wings that can blot out the sun. Its scales are as tough as polished stone, and normal weapons just bounce right off. It's got this nasty habit of ambushing our workers when we least expect it, always striking at night when visibility's low."

He continued, his tone growing more serious. "The worst part is its breath. It doesn't just breathe fire—it's this black flame that eats through steel and stone like it's nothing. We've lost some good people because they couldn't escape the flames in time. It's also quick for something its size. You'll need to be faster and smarter if you're going to beat it."

Raven's expression didn't waver as he absorbed the information. "Where is it now?" he asked, his tone direct.

The foreman scratched his head and pointed toward a jagged ridge in the distance. "It's been nesting in the caves up there on the eastern side of the ridge. We've spotted it coming and going, but no one's been brave enough to get close. If you're serious about taking it down, that's where you'll find it."

Raven followed the foreman's gaze, locking onto the ridge. "Understood," he said, his voice calm but firm. "I'll handle it."

The foreman clapped him on the shoulder, his expression a mix of relief and hope. "Good luck, kid. You're going to need it."

Without another word, Raven spread his fiery shadow wings once more and launched into the air, heading straight for the wyvern's lair. The miners watched in awe as he disappeared into the distance, their hopes riding on the young adventurer.
