I Got the Gluttony Skill, and Now I’m Overpowered

Chapter 21: Wings of Triumph

Raven's form vanished, and he smiled, brushing off the lingering embers of his transformation. "Let's get back to the old man and tell him the good news," he said to himself. His wings of shadow and fire unfurled from his back, and with a powerful leap, he took to the sky, soaring towards the mines.

Having leveled up, his speed had increased significantly, and within four minutes, he reached the familiar sight of the bustling mines. He spotted the old man supervising the workers below and began his descent. The old man looked up, shielding his eyes from the sun as Raven approached. With a graceful landing, Raven folded his wings and waved casually.

"Hey, old man," he called out with a grin.

The old man raised an eyebrow, his expression skeptical. "Well, if it isn't Raven. Let me guess… you couldn't take down that wyvern, could you?"

Raven's grin widened as he reached into his pouch and pulled out the shimmering wyvern scale. Without a word, he tossed it to the old man, who fumbled to catch it, nearly dropping it in his surprise. The old man's eyes went wide as he inspected the scale, his hands trembling.

"You… you defeated the wyvern?!" he stuttered, his voice filled with disbelief.

Around them, the miners paused their work, drawn by the commotion. Whispers and exclamations rippled through the crowd as they realized what had happened.

"No way!" one miner said.

"He actually did it?" another added, their tone a mix of awe and fear.

Raven's smile grew wider as he crossed his arms. "Yeah, it was a fun fight," he said nonchalantly, as if slaying a wyvern was just another day's work.

The old man's face was pale, sweat trickling down his forehead as he clutched the scale tightly. "You… you're something else, kid," he said, his voice shaking. "I… I've never seen anyone take down something that monstrous and live to tell the tale."

The crowd erupted into murmurs again, their admiration for Raven evident in their voices. Raven chuckled, basking in the attention for a brief moment before turning back to the old man.

"Well, old man, I've done my part. You can let the guild know the mines are safe again. I'll be heading back now."

The old man nodded, still in shock, and muttered, "Yeah… yeah, I'll make sure they know. You've earned your reward and then some."

With a final wave, Raven spread his wings once more and took off into the sky, leaving the astonished miners and their supervisor behind as he headed back to report his success.

Flying high above, Raven looked at the beautiful sky and clouds surrounding him. The golden rays of the sun illuminated the horizon, creating a serene and peaceful view. He placed his hand on his chest, over the spot where his cancer used to be, and smiled.

"I'm alive," he murmured to himself, his voice filled with gratitude. "Alive and well. With me getting stronger and stronger… with my evolution… I don't need to be scared of death anymore."

He laughed, the sound echoing through the open sky. His wings flared with fiery intensity as he whispered, "Let's keep going." With a powerful push, he soared higher into the sky, leaving a massive shockwave in his wake, the world below marveling at the strength and determination of Raven Cross.

An hour later, with his increased speed and strength, Raven reached the city. The sight of the familiar guild building brought a satisfied grin to his face. He descended gracefully, landing by the guild's door with a small ripple of energy. Looking up at the structure, he said to himself, "Alright, first mission complete."

He pushed open the door and stepped inside. The bustling guild hall fell silent as heads turned to see who had entered. Recognizing Raven, the adventurers broke into chatter, their voices filled with awe and surprise.

"It's Raven!" one adventurer exclaimed.

"He's back already?" another added, their tone incredulous.

"Did he really take down that wyvern?" someone whispered, their voice a mix of curiosity and disbelief.

Ignoring the murmurs, Raven walked toward the receptionist desk with his usual confident stride. Mira, who had been busy with paperwork, looked up and instantly broke into a wide smile.

"Welcome back, Raven!" she said warmly, her voice tinged with excitement.

Raven returned her smile, his expression softening. "Hey, Mira. I'm back," he replied.

In thought, he whispered, "Appraisal." A faint screen appeared in his mind, detailing Mira's stats and traits. He glanced over the information, his smile growing slightly wider as he read the details and descriptions.

Raven chuckled softly to himself. "Looks like I'm not the only one surprising people these days," he thought, before focusing back on Mira, who was beaming with joy at his safe return.

He smiled genuinely at Mira and said, "So, I defeated the wyvern and proved it to the old man at the mines."

Mira's smile widened lovingly as she responded, "That's amazing, Raven! Congratulations on completing your first A-rank mission successfully!"

Raven chuckled softly, his expression warm. "Thank you, Mira. That means a lot," he replied. They continued talking, their conversation flowing naturally as if they were in their own little world.

"It must have been a tough fight, though," Mira said, tilting her head slightly. "Wyverns are no joke."

"It was challenging, but nothing I couldn't handle," Raven said, his tone calm yet proud. "Although, I'll admit… it had some nasty tricks up its sleeve. That black flame breath almost got me."

Mira gasped softly, her hands clasping together. "Raven! You're always so reckless! What if you—" She stopped herself, looking flustered, and quickly added, "I mean, I'm glad you're okay."

Raven smiled, a genuine warmth in his eyes. "I appreciate the concern, Mira. But you don't have to worry. I'm stronger now, and I've got people here rooting for me."

Mira's cheeks flushed as she looked away briefly, then glanced back at him. "Well, just… be careful out there, alright? I don't think the guild could handle losing you."

"Losing me?" Raven said with a teasing smirk. "Don't worry, Mira. I'm not going anywhere."

Their conversation carried on, with Mira asking about the details of the fight and Raven sharing small anecdotes, occasionally exaggerating for comedic effect. Mira laughed at his jokes, the two of them entirely engrossed in each other.

The other adventurers in the guild watched the interaction unfold, murmuring amongst themselves. "Look at them," one adventurer whispered.

"Are they always like that?" another asked, smirking.

"Raven's actually smiling…" someone added in disbelief.

Their comments grew louder until a firm yet cheerful voice interrupted from behind the reception desk.

"How are you doing, young Raven?"

Raven and Mira turned to see the guild master standing there, his usual confident smile on his face. Raven raised a hand in a casual wave. "Hey, old man. What brings you here?" he asked with a grin.

The guild master smiled, crossing his arms. "You gave me a good fight a day ago, kid. So tell me… how do you feel now?"

Raven smirked, his tone playful. "I feel good. After all, I managed to defeat the almighty guild master." His voice carried a hint of mockery, making Mira giggle softly.

The guild master chuckled. "You've got guts, kid. But let's not forget… it's still surprising that I lost to some wimpy, cold 'I'm in love' kid."

Raven froze, his eyes wide and his face pale. "Who's in love?!" he stammered, his voice rising.

The guild master pointed at Mira, who stood beside him, her cheeks immediately turning crimson.

Both Mira and Raven yelled in unison, their voices overlapping, "Guild master!"

The guild master burst out laughing, clearly enjoying their flustered reactions. "You two make it too easy," he said, shaking his head with a wide grin. "But don't worry, I'll keep your secret safe."

As the guild master walked away, still chuckling, Mira and Raven turned to each other, their faces red and their words stumbling over one another.

"I-I… I didn't say anything like that!" Mira stuttered, her hands waving frantically.

"N-neither did I! He's just messing with us!" Raven added quickly, scratching the back of his head, his usual calm demeanor nowhere to be found.

"I mean, you're… you're great, but…" Mira started, her voice trailing off as she looked away, her cheeks burning.

"Y-you're great too! I mean… you're nice and all, but…" Raven fumbled, his words tumbling over each other as he avoided her gaze.

The two stood there, awkwardly avoiding eye contact, the tension palpable. The adventurers nearby watched in amused silence, some snickering at the rare sight of the normally stoic Raven completely out of his element.

Finally, Mira cleared her throat, forcing a smile. "Well, um… thanks for coming back safely, Raven."

Raven nodded quickly, regaining a bit of his composure. "Yeah, uh… thanks for worrying about me, Mira."

Their eyes met briefly, a hint of warmth passing between them before they both looked away again, their hearts racing.
