Chapter 48: Spider-Man Enhancement Plan
Su Ye guessed correctly. Beneath the castle, there was indeed a large cave filled with bats. The space was immense, clearly not naturally formed, with evident signs of artificial excavation.
In the movies, the Batcave was built by Bruce Wayne's great-great-grandfather to help rescue and transport slaves.
But in Su Ye's version of the story, this cave had absolutely nothing to do with the limited number of notable events in American history, such as the Civil War.
"This was built after the Master purchased the property," Butler Alfred said calmly, standing in the massive underground cavern.
"According to the Master, this follows the principle of 'dig deep, store plentiful, and bide your time.' So, we not only excavated a massive cavern but also built cold storage to stockpile industrial and daily supplies. The idea is to use this as a shelter in case of an apocalyptic crisis."
After hearing Alfred Pennyworth's explanation, Su Ye couldn't help but click his tongue.
Old Su was really something—digging a shelter in the U.S. as if this were a post-apocalyptic wasteland from a blockbuster, where biochemical crises happened every other day.
And what did "bide your time to claim kingship" even mean? Was Old Su planning to carve out his own kingdom here?
Ambitious, wasn't he?
"Of course, the Master did all this for you, Young Master. According to him, this place is too dangerous, and he wouldn't come here unless absolutely necessary. So, his only way to protect you is to prepare for the worst."
Alright, that made Old Su sound somewhat dependable.
"By the way, where's the warehouse you mentioned? Let's check it out."
The warehouse was deep inside the cave, and it was quite spacious—about the size of a basketball court. As soon as he stepped in, Su Ye saw a flashy sports car.
It had two front wheels and four rear ones, six massive wheels in total. Although it was called a sports car, its thick armor rivaled that of an infantry fighting vehicle, and it was as large as a small truck.
"This…"
Wasn't this the giant toy-like Batmobile from The Dark Knight trilogy? What was it doing here? Shouldn't it be gathering dust in Morgan Freeman's warehouse?
"This is one of Lucius Fox's creations. He's a brilliant scientist, but his projects clashed with those of the Osborn Group, so he was sidelined. The Master secretly funded his research and acquired all his results."
Alright, they didn't even bother changing the name—Lucius Fox it was. Guess they were coming clean now.
Looking at the warehouse filled with high-tech products and materials, Su Ye had only two thoughts in his mind: "Holy sht!" and "Holy sht again!"
Old Su was seriously awesome—or rather, the system was. Just by getting a green card, not only had Su Ye gained $10 billion in assets, but he also acquired the complete Batman gear.
This green card seemed way more valuable than the blue card Andy Bogard had.
So, the card's rank only determined the abilities of the girlfriend it granted, not the powers or wealth Su Ye himself would gain?
Does that mean if I drew a white card for the journalist Lois Lane, I'd get Superman's powers? But if I drew a high-tier card for Wonder Woman, I might just end up with some mundane pilot skills?
When it came to choosing between gaining powers himself or having a powerful girlfriend, Su Ye would definitely go for the former.
True strength came from within. Living as a weakling reliant on a stronger partner wasn't the life Su Ye wanted.
So, should I go back and try drawing some white cards to see if I can get a journalist?
After wrestling with the tempting idea for a while, Su Ye gave up. Too many white cards would mean too many ordinary girlfriends—he'd be stretched too thin, overwhelmed, and completely drained!
Thus, quality over quantity was the way to go. High-quality girlfriend cards paired with his own strength were the true path forward.
After all, male characters weaker than their female counterparts were still rare in comics and movies… right?
The items in this warehouse were a huge help. With a bit of preparation, Su Ye could become a qualified Batman. And with Spider-Man's and the Bogard brothers' powers, he could be even stronger than Batman.
However, what Su Ye valued most wasn't the equipment but Lucius Fox.
He was a top-tier scientist, on par with Tony Stark in technological innovation, and Batman's strongest tech support.
There's a saying in the underworld: You can fight Batman, but never schedule a fight with him.
Because if you give Batman time to prepare, he becomes invincible.
Even Superman wouldn't recognize himself after Batman was done with him.
And the one who made Batman the king of prepared combat was none other than Lucius Fox.
Under Alfred Pennyworth's introduction, Su Ye soon met Lucius Fox. He had the look of a wise and trustworthy man, though the actor playing him had faced accusations of misconduct, even involving a step-granddaughter… well, that's on the actor, not Fox himself.
Fox himself gave Su Ye a great impression—trustworthy and reliable, much like Alfred Pennyworth.
Strictly speaking, these two were system-generated aides, just like Terry Bogard and Joe Higashi, making them completely trustworthy.
"Mr. Su, nice to meet you."
After their brief introduction, Su Ye got straight to the point. "Dr. Fox, I need your help with something."
As he spoke, Su Ye revealed the two web-shooters on his wrists and fired two strands of webbing into the distance.
Dr. Fox and Butler Alfred were both stunned on the spot.
"This is… spider silk? Young Master, you… you're Spider-Man!"
Even Alfred Pennyworth's usually unflappable gentlemanly expression showed a rare trace of shock.
Su Ye nodded. "Please keep this confidential, especially from Old Su. You're my butler now."
Alfred Pennyworth hesitated for a moment but eventually nodded. As Su Ye said, he was now Su Ye's butler, and telling Old Su wouldn't accomplish much. Being halfway across the globe, Old Su could do little besides worry.
Dr. Fox, however, had a different focus. He looked at Su Ye's web-shooters with admiration.
"Did you make this yourself? The material… is it the high-tensile bio-cable produced by the Osborn Group?"
Su Ye nodded. "That's right, Doctor. You have a sharp eye. I made these web-shooters myself, using high-tensile bio-cable. However, I've only developed two functions so far."
As he spoke, Su Ye fired off a few web bullets.
"So, from your professional perspective, could you help me design and develop a few new uses for the webbing?"
